It's nice and quite different from any other museum, maybe it is similar to illusion museums which are trending right now all around Europe. Although, the ticket is a little bit expensive (10€ student ticket, 15€ the adult ticket) for a kind of small tour. You can check the whole museum in less than an hour, especially if you are not reading the detail background in each art. Besides that, the detail background are mostly in Hungarian and you need to scan a qr code each time to see the English version which is quite tiring

I visited the Museum of Light on Tuesday and it was not very crowded which allowed me to comfortably view the exhibits. I visited the website and Google maps account beforehand but there was no information on the cost. There were lockers available for personal items by inserting a coin of 100. The descriptions were in English but switched to other languages quite frequently. Overall, it was a pleasant visit, but lack of cost information and language switching in the descriptions could be improved.

The central element of the works of domestic and international artists is light, the nature of which is approached from a new perspective. Nearly 40 works of art can be seen at the current exhibition, which can be visited until May 20. As a layman, I bought the ticket with the guided tour - online!, because the places sell out quickly - which is free on Tuesdays and available for + HUF 1,000 on Fridays and Saturdays. You can also buy tickets on the spot without a guided tour. The exhibition manager's guidance for a more accurate understanding of the individual works was a huge help for me 👏 My favorite is the Solar Probe, a space probe that converts the data collected in the field around the Sun into sound 🤗

A most incredible place. Kinda pricey, however worth a visit, especially considering the very historic old market place building which was basically saved via this museal transformation. There might be a longer wait for the middle exhibit inside the Zeppelin. You shall not skip it! Magical.

The museum itself is perfect, very great range of interactive installations and mesmerising sceneries, but at the front door when we asked for the ticket the lady rejected us accordingly to being full! But we saw a group of locals got their tickets online right there and got in, so we did to, and shocking that there were still so many places left, but the lady decided to not to let us in!!! It was not a quite nice welcome and gave me anxiety. Except that the museum is perfect to spend couple of hours in it.

The artists represented here are visionary. This museum did not disappoint. The works are on two levels. Excellent descriptions in lit marques in Hungarian and English. We are very happy we did not miss this exhibition. Thought provoking as well as fun. Everyone can enjoy this venue.

I was really looking forward to come to this place but was highly disappointed. The price is around 15 euros per person which is not worth the experience. Most of the illustrations are closed and or changed and you have to be a “light artist” to understand them, also there were some shorts videos/ films which very too abstract and meaningless in my opinion. Good things is that the place is clean, there are restrooms, air condition. Would not recommend to visit.

I really like the concept. I love the arts and usually enjoy museums. I Must admit it is hard to think how I could have improved the experience. Maybe 3 stars is a bit harsh, how about 3.5. Price is on the higher side- I understand it is a lot of work to set it up. Overall the experience was too passive. Very conventional. Also, too many people obstructing installations for selfies. Bizarre behavior.

It is a truly unique programme for those ones who are open to read about the phenomenon they are about to see, because these short notes are significant for one to understand the upcoming art piece. We were there with a 12-year-old, and for her it was a bit too complex and therefore with the lack of understanding, a bit boring, so I do not really recommend it for younger teens or kids. All in all, we adults were obsessed with the whole project, so we are looking forward to the next exhibition here.

Incredible immersive & thought provoking experience, showcasing the spectrum of possibilities when you fuse an art, science & philosophy behind using light as a medium together. The industrial venue created a great atmosphere & the wide selection & variety of light based artworks captured my imagination. It was magical & brought out the inner child in me. On the one hand I'm taken aback by the beauty, simplicity & complexity afforded by light when reflected, refracted, rotated & diffused. On the other hand I was curious to understand how each visual illusion was created. This was helped by the artists statements in both English & Hungarian. If you are expecting a flashy, gaudy, mindless display of excessive lights & lasers you might be disappointed. If you treat this as a museum, take your time to understand the philosophy behind each piece, the beauty & have a natural curiosity it will be a rewarding experience. There are of course many immersive, visually spectacular pieces but walking in & out of the room & taking a few photos isn't the best way to appreciate this. Take time to read the Light Art Philosophy at the entrance as well. Friendly staff, great atmosphere. I was hesitant at first but I loved it. Allow yourself to get lost, I spent a few hours in there. Might also be suitable for a microdose of plant based concoctions ;) Enjoy!

Waste of time and money. They are claiming to do research on light usage in art, but in fact all these "installations" were based on very basic, child-like understanding of light. Great majority of installations were not interesting, simple (except one really interesting which was casting square shadow from circular object). I expected much much more (at least using effects of Thomas Young experiment with double-slit in art and another quantum effects).

Ive never seen anything quite like this before, so for me it was well worth the visit. The centerpiece of the exhibition is the large oval/cylindrical room in the middle of building; it's semi-permiable walls creating the canvas for a dynamic light pattern display. You access through a double door positive air pressure lock. But there are also many other smaller static and dynamic installations organised around the sides of the building on the two floors. Some of these are interactive with your hand movements.

Great spectacle for the eye! If you want to dive briefly into another world, I recommend the Light Art Museum. The light hypnotize in a special way and have a meditative effect For the two floors we spent two hours in the museum and had a lot of fun! Tickets must be purchased in advance and the staff is very friendly!

High expectations due to the hype on the Internet, but unfortunately, nothing special and a big disappointment. Tickets for 2 adults are around €36, which is a lot for a museum of this concept. We expected more installations, stories and effects. Very cold inside. I can point out 3 installations that I liked out of a total of approximately 30. In my opinion, the museum does not have the criteria to be a tourist attraction.

It’s nice to see but to be very honest I wasn’t super impressed since I’ve been to the TeamLab exhibition before. There are a few interesting exhibits (some of them are interactive) especially I liked the one inside the sphere. As I remember it wasn’t that crowded on the weekday, also no wait by the entrance. And I got my ticket online.

An unusual and impressive museum. This is the first Light Art Museum in my life. The exhibits are all different and all interesting. Each exhibition has a description in Hungarian and English. The airship was the most memorable. Specific music and complete relaxation. I definitely recommend to visit, you will not regret it

Excellent exhibition several exhibits are interactive. The enclosed exhibit was outstanding. I recommend lying down on the viewing platform to view it. We were traveling with my Auntie who uses a mobility scooter. We were told it was accessible, it was to some extent. There is a lift to the top floor exhibits but some of the rooms had a step going up and in some there was no room to manoeuvre, also the main exhibit had around 10 steps to the entrance making it impossible for her to experience. Almost forgot, the information about the exhibits is displayed in a light box, the language switches from Hungarian to English every couple of minutes, I didn't realise this until a few exhibits in.

I went here without any expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. Especially the big immersive „Room“ in the middle of the room was a very impressive. There are many different smaller exhibits which you will quickly pass by but all in all it was a enjoyable experience. The location itself (old markethall) is also cool. But don’t let all the social media posts fool you - it’s not as glamorous as they make it look. I still think it‘s worth a visit for a fun experience.

A new place to visit. Please take your time! Attractive and spectacular, also, if you have more time than just an hour, stay and try the exhibition out! Lots of fun, things to think of. Four stars only, because it was a bit cold and they placed the heaters near an auditive installation.... Smh

Fantastic place to spend an afternoon there. The museum feels like stepping into a completely different dimension. It had art works from different decades and artists and the descriptions were both in English and in Hungarian. Recommended.

I am no big fan of art, but this kind of abstract art is really impressive. The museum has light sculptures, some kind of light shows and interactive art pieces. I enjoyed the shows the most, I could watch them all day. However, the museum is quite small and if you don't take your time looking intensely at all pieces (like I did), you probably will be done in half an hour.

Nice museum. Very worthwhile. For tourists, save the Royal Palace and go here

  • 4/5 Philipp G. 3 months ago on Google New
Perfect place to visit when you're into art. The only thing that was annoying was the descriptions switching from English to Hungarian, at the EXACT moment when you are either halfway finished or about to start reading. I would suggest adding bigger TVs and showing both at the same time. Or a button to manually switch the language.

A marvelous experience visiting the museum and seeing all the exhibited creations. Everything is unique and interesting to see, it definitely wasn't what I was expecting when I decided to visit. It was surprising and engaging, I definitely recommend visiting the museum if you can. The prices are affordable, the student discounts are great and the experience is priceless.

It is a grrat place to do something more than just sightseeing. Ground floor is more interesting than 1st floor. We we came to the conclusion that the first floor was designed to create an impression, that the museum is bigger. Still, the ground floor was very interesting.

I am really glad I decided to visit the light art museum of Budapest. It's an amazing interactive museum related to light art. It's a real eye candy with many amazing light art excisions. This museum is defenetly in my recommended list but please note that on weekends the tickets are more expensive than week days.

Visiting the light art museum was undeniably worthwhile. The array of artworks, crafted through both basic and advanced scientific principles, was truly breathtaking.

Highly recommend if you go to Budapest for a few days, this place is magical. However, not all the attractions are breathtaking. You still absolutely need go inside the main room, in the middle of the museum, the light show is wonderful. Maybe a bit pricy overall, but good experience

Very interesting exhibition with several light installations and interactive experiences. I liked the pressurised inflatable structure with the video installation you must walk in. We liked to lie on the floor and watch it - I uploaded a video of it. Some other exhibits are intense and educational - if you could read the descriptions! In fact, what I found very annoying are the panels that describe the exhibitions, as they toggle between Hungarian and English, and they never seem to be in English when you reach them… then you need to wait several minutes for them to switch to English and whoever is with you (aka, your six years old…) is already annoyed by the exhibition and wants to move to the next. Some of them seem to not switch to English at all… Another issue is the price - I get it, artists must be rewarded, and luckily there is an internet advance booking and a family ticket and I am not a local, but this exhibition is precluded for many Hungarians. It is okay if you have a salary from Germany… Overall I would suggest it, if you have the time (although visiting all of it will take you at most one hour) and the resources, and are appreciative of the kind of exhibition.

An impressive and large museum showing some amazing work. The Light Art Museum is definitely more than you would expect. This giant building hosts some great light art and takes a good while to look found some of these stunning pieces. My favourite part was the upstairs globe where you can stand or sit in a room with a light show all around you. The prices are very reasonable and I liked that they offered student discount. The place has nice staff, a gift shop and toilets. Recommend visiting if you are in Budapest ! 🇭🇺

Very amazing place, but it could'v been better.. Some pices i felt it was pure abstract art and not so understood But otherwise, everything was amazing and the staff was really cooperative and nice I liked the balloon alot 💘💘

A perfect match , if you wanna have a extraordinary museum experience. Great show of lights with music and other elements. The atmosphere was amazing and a lot of the exhibits were interactive. Would visit again to see what other stuff they come up with

A selection of ‘light art’ works, some really interesting and interactive, but others quite average. Expect lots of tourists there for photo opportunities rather than the art itself! In general it is probably overpriced for what it is 6000 HUF (£13/14) but worth doing if you have the time!

  • 4/5 Norbert S. 6 months ago on Google
Could provide a few more attractions, the children will definitely love the place, but for its price I think it lacks a bit of variety and quality. The different setups are mesmerizing and have short descriptions about them on the walls. There are interactive art pieces which are great and interesting for everyone.

When planning trip to Budapest this museum caught my eyes and I said to come visiting it. Nice feature is that you can buy tickets online. Exhibits are awesome, some of them really breathtaking what can be achieved by play with the light. place was not crowded and we didn’t have to wait in line to get into museum.

Great experience. At 7 PM no wait at the door. (workday) 45 minutes to an hour to see all exhibit. Don't miss the ballon in the middle! 😎 🌟

  • 4/5 Tyron R. 1 year ago on Google
Tickets around £14 for an adult. Took about 2 hours for us to experience some of the installations, art can be interpreted in many different ways but for myself some of the pieces were very well put together while others didn’t quite hit the same effect. Some pieces are accompanied by a slow dark synth soundtrack which made it very atmospheric. The museum is Inside an old market a lot like the famous local market near the chain bridge which houses most of the pieces in the old stores. The staff at the museum were very friendly and spoke really good English.

  • 5/5 Maria-Christina S. 11 months ago on Google
I honestly can't understand the bad reviews. For me it was one of the best experiences. These are works of art and not just "illusion tricks" as some people mention here. Visited in May 2023, went early in the morning and absolutely had a blast. Totally worth it.

  • 3/5 CJ 1 year ago on Google
4-5 really nice exhibits, and the place has a LOT of potential. The museum is in an old marketplace, really atmospheric. Way overpriced though. I do hope they'll be able to add lots more to it as time passes. Currently, once to visit.
