Oh my God!!! YOU HAVE TO VISIT THE LABYRINTH. However, if you are claustrophobic, it will be a huge challenge for you and may be you should avoid it. The place is huge and endless, we were walking for over an hour an half and we realized we didn't see half of it. The feeling is creepy but great at the same time, thinking that it's not a fake place but a real one. Most certainly , if there weren't arrows to show you the way, you would easily get lost. Don't fail to visit it. Ask for it, in case you can't find, because it's located on a small road. Also, the don't get cards, only cash. Oh! And have your mobiles ready. It's really dark and there are spots that you will need your flash light.

It's certainly the coolest (temperature) place in town. It comprises a series of Tunnels with small Alcoves. I think alot of it's attraction is based around the Story of Dracula's imprisonment here and as you approach the far end of this complex, where this is illustrated, an artificially created cold mist permeates the passage ways. The "Maze of Darkness" is particularly spooky, an "optional area" of passage ways you have to find your way through in total darkness. Tickets are Cash Only so make sure you bring sufficient.

It's OK, with the heat wave going on, the freshness of the air was the best part of this visit. Otherwise a weird experience, the mannequins with the opera costumes and Verdi music playing didn't fit in at all - and furthermore, the whole count Dracula thing is obviously just a cheap history fraud. While the undergrounds of the castle are clearly extremely interesting, this setting is just off. Just leave it as it is, explain the different usages of the structure trough the ages, no ugly statues and surely no opera mannequins, that's all it needs. Only cash accepted.

I have seen recent positive reviews but I do not believe these to be real, closed 19/09/23 at 16:30 and 21/09/23 at 12:40. I do not think it is open at all currently. Phone line not connected and nothing on their website to say it is closed. Not good when you walk far to visit or paid for transport!

Rip off. Nothing to see; literally. It is basically a dark cave, with canned music. A few bad reproductions of statutes of Hungarian historical figures not fit for display. These photos are everything you will see. Save your 3000 fornits.

Buda Castle Labyrinth was a very time for me. It is a twisted maze of tunnels under Buda Castle. Vlad the Impaler, aka Dracula, was imprisoned there for 14 years. They have gone in and set up some cheesy statures, but they have a lot in interesting info about the people and events. The coolest thing, for me, was just exploring the dark, fog filled passageways. There is even one section that is pitch black. There are small blue lights to keep you on track. Try to do it without using your phone for light! For those who play the VR game "In Death: Unchained", this feels a LOT like the passages in the game! I kept expecting to get attacked by a knight, ghost of goul!

After reading mixed reviews, we didn’t know what to expect but we had a blast! We were in there almost 2 hours. Our favorite part was probably the optional “maze of darkness” that has no lighting and requires you to follow a rope through the cave.

3000 HUF per person, felt like a rip off when we left. Attendant said cash only but clearly had a card reader sitting next to him. We only spent ~ minutes wandering around inside. Not clear directional signs so we missed half of it but couldn’t find our way back to see the rest and ended up exiting. Terrible reproductions of statues that weren’t that cool or interesting. The best thing I can say was that it was a nice break from the current heat wave.

Very cool labyrinth. I had to go alone as nobody wanted to enter with me. It is dark and disturbing, very cold and foggy, but if you like the thrill like me, then it is worth it! Some parts of the labyrinth I didn't want to visit as there were no people around and it was extremely dark and foggy, so I didn't want to get lost.

It’s an important place on Budapest map. The corridors are well maintained, it’s also a great relief to go down there during a hot sunny weather as it’s quite cold down there. I recommend booking a guide tour to learn about this place and its history. Also, to not get lost!

I absolutely loved this bizarre, creepy attraction. I’d rather go here than any modern “haunted house.” We encountered: the optional “maze of darkness” with zero lighting and only a cable to feel our way through it; mist or fog, wet floors, ceilings, and walls, and the sound of dripping water; a miniature tiled labyrinth within a labyrinth, nearby a sculpture of a snake; odd statues of historical figures and wax figures wearing opera costumes; dead ends and low-ceilinged dungeons; and well-placed haunting music and lighting throughout. Like other reviews say: cash only, 4000 forints (as of November 2023), and don’t expect a friendly chat with the guy who takes your money; expect humidity and wet surfaces—and watch your head if you’re taller than 5’ 5”; and maybe skip the whole thing if you’re very afraid of the dark or stairs or caves and the like.

Do: 1) Bring cash. The extremely unfriendly reception will tell you “Cash.”. I paid 4000Ft. 2) Have your phone/ flash light handy. But pls enjoy the darkness, it’s fun! There’s always a little light around the corner… so it’s not completely pitch dark. Let your eyes get adjusted. 3) Wear shoes, flip flops would be yucky coz it’s damp down there with puddles 4) Enjoy the fun. Yes, those wax figures and plaster sculptures of emperors suck big time, but it’s not the point! The point is experiencing the original cave system and get lost in the labyrinth. I went there alone, and it’s even better! Although there was neither a SOS alarm nor map given… it’s not really a maze. Somehow you will get out, don’t worry. I spent 40mins there just because I have other plans right after. I guess I haven’t explored every part of the Labyrinth. Wish I had more time. Love the sound effect there - a little contrived but still it’s good to set the atmosphere, cool acoustics in the cave.

The attraction is nice, because it’s a network in a cave. I just feel that I’ve paid 3000 for a ticket that just offered me that and some figures randomly putted there. I believe it could be better or cheaper. It’s over priced for what it is.

Extensive underground experience. Well done with low lighting, fog, and displays to see and hear. Complete lack of directions at some points makes you feel like you are really lost - and adds to the fun if you like that sort of thing.

People 6ft (183 cm) and above should be cautious here, but don't want to miss out on this enigmatic journey through the dark labyrinth under the city streets. Be sure to bring good walking shoes as the stairs leading down to the labyrinth are narrow, and the ground at the bottom may be wet. For the price of 3000 HUF per person it was an okay way to pass the time, especially with a group rather than alone.

Was the labyrinth cool? Sure. Was it worth 4000 HUF per person? Not really. Overall, I'm glad I checked it out, but it's a bit pricey for what it is and the fact that very few others were there during our visit means they likely feel the same. In addition, several areas are so dark that you have no choice but to avoid them or use your phone flashlight. Almost every area had wired lights yet the majority of them weren't turned on making it difficult to navigate.

This place is not what it seems and is a complete tourist trap. Don’t waste your time or money visiting. There are random figures dressed in costume with opera playing in the background and no explanation as to why, text panels that you can’t read because the lighting is so horrible, and a severe lack of historical information making it a worthless experience. If you want to learn something about Budapest visit the Budapest History Museum instead.

What a spectacle and surprise. If your looking for something different to do head to the Labyrinth… I was blown away with it all… you might need a torch to read the writing on the historical information boards… but be sure not to use them in the un lit part of the cave..just follow the rope handle…

(Translated by Google) So well ... if you want to cool off a little on hot days in the middle of summer while visiting the Fisherman's Bastion, you can do it in the labyrinth. It's not exactly exciting, there is no light in places, it feels like you're walking in circles and you're actually outside much too fast again. I was there with 4 children, aged 10 to 17, who didn't think it was great. Sturdy shoes are advisable because they are wet and sometimes slippery ... and every now and then you should bend your head. Without a flashlight (mobile phone), only with the help of the tubes on the side, which are wet and dirty, it does not work. The staff is friendly and speaks excellent German ... at least that day.

(Translated by Google) It used to be much better. In the old days, every room had a different mood, different shivering voices, or a loud heartbeat. It was a wine fountain with Renaissance music. With randomly placed human-sized stone statues, you could get scared of them in the dark. Today: there is opera all over the maze and the whole exhibition is very below average. You can read about the caves of the world. Guaranteed shiver-free. Admission was amazingly expensive, with a family of HUF 14,000. (Original) Régebben sokkal jobb volt. Régen: minden teremnek más hangulata volt, más borzongós hangok szóltak, vagy hangosodott a szívdobogás. Borszökőkút volt, reneszánsz zenével. Random elhelyezett embernagyságú kőszobrokkal, frászt lehetett kapni tőlük a sötétben. Ma: egész labirintusban opera szól és az egész kiállítás nagyon átlag alattira sikerült. A világ barlangjairől lehet olvasni. Garantáltan borzongásmentes. A belépő elképesztően drága, családdal 14 000Ft volt.

I visited this labyrinth in 2012. We found the cavern door under Buda Castle, around the corner on the right hand side of the street, as you go downhill from where all the tourist busses park. It used to be owned by someone but rumor suggests it was taken over by the government. At the time I visited, it was not busy in any way. We wandered all over, seeing the wax figures (why are there wax figures?) and the monument to when Vlad Tepes (Dracula) was held in the cavern in 1476. There were portions being renovated that had inlaid floors but we couldnt get into those rooms as they were blocked by ropes. What I found fascinating was the information about limestone being mined in Hungary and all the gorgeous examples of it in that cave system. I'd say take a mask, though, because the black mold down there is real. Do not miss this. We paid 3000 HUF to get in (cash only) and wandered for a couple hours, including a video at the end (which was the beginning).

What a neat experience. We just lucked out on this one walking around the plateau. They are pretty big on the “Dracula’s Prison” bit. But, why not. It is interesting history and they do a good job parsing fact and fiction. The ambiance is so chill and spooky. The pitch black potion (which isn’t necessary if that frightens you) was my favorite. A moment of sensory deprivation that forces you to use other senses to get around. Honestly, I would have spent more time there, but I was worried my child would begin to frighten (she didn’t). Loved it. Super cheap, very fun. And not a major time expense either. I recommend this pretty highly.

Interesting and fun exhibition! It's entirely underground and some part of it were no light at all to let you experience walking in the complete darkness. When you get to Dracula stories, the place just get steamy and cold with some creepy exhibit. Recommended go as a group and enjoy the fun of spooky atmosphere. (Watch out your friends who might want to scare you in here)

Very bad organization, super expensive entry fee. It could be much more cooler if they put effort into it. It promises a lot and then doesn't deliver. The only nice thing was the smoke machine in some parts of the path.

It is worth walking through the labyrinth of underground corridors and feeling the dark atmosphere of the labyrinth. I recommend taking a flashlight with you because some parts are in complete darkness. Ticket is 3000HUF payable only in cash. An interesting fact is that Dracula was supposedly imprisoned there!

(Translated by Google) The maze is fantastic, but since the NER has brought it much worse, the wax puppets are boring with nothing to look for, and they lack the oil lamp wander. At least they wouldn’t do worse if they were already stretching things out. Draching part and dark say good. This was a fun. You’ll love it if you like a little “safe” adventure like getting lost in dark and damp places, but truth be told, you’ll have to force the thought of being lost. There’s indicators and ropes throughout the labyrinth to guide you along. There’s a lot of history of Hungary on the walls and this is a unique way to discover it, read about it. Some parts get pretty dark so make sure that your mobile’s charged as you may need the flashlight. Even the entrance is pretty dramatic, even before you get to the ticket office, you have to descend into the entry of the cave system. Tickets are 4000 HUF per adult, CASH ONLY. After all the history, there’s a bit of world geography at the end. We read most everything on the walls and it took us around 45 minutes to see all of it. The Labyrinth should definitely be added to unconventional/fun/adventurous date ideas in Budapest.

I couldn’t go inside. This info is relevant for people that just arrive there unplanned. If you don’t buy tickets ahead online you need cash money. We didn’t know that and when we reached there we were surprised that entry cannot be paid with card. I guess is no signal underground for that. Photos are only from entry.

Expensive for what it is. Basically a place where you're not sure if you're scared of if you should be scared. It's dark in a lot of places, you'd be lost without a flashlight. My phone battery was running low so I was becoming increasingly anxious. Some lights appeared to be broken to hard to read the info points. The mannequins are just a bit spooky in their own right. Spent 4000 HUF to basically teach myself that I'm thankful I don't live in fear like this all the time. Felt safe at times then other times felt like I'd never get out. The snake was a bit scary also. Can't decide if I'd recommend it. It's a bit weird.

The first half was very exciting, the second half was all about trying to find the way out. The entry is 3000 HUF for adults and 2500 HUF for students, totally worth it, must visit. It's outside the Buda Castle, along one of the roads. Some parts are scary and some parts are like a maze but no worries whatever happens you cannot get lost forever, someone will find you somehow.

Definitely worth the money to go see this attraction - about 7 Euro or $10 for the family. Took my children and they loved it. Lots of history, especially about Vlad the Impaler's imprisonment in Hungary (aka Dracula). There is the cage that he was in. There is also a part of the labyrinth that is in complete darkness with handrails along the wall - you try to navigate without lights. Made it most of the way, but one of my children got scared so we turned on the phone light. As some of the other reviews state, it is good to follow the maps that are on the walls as there are many detours and areas that are dead ends. There are also arrows on the wall to help guide you through the tunnels. Maybe not for everyone, but the kids will love it!

I really like "dark tourism". This has the dark and historical appeal. Overall, a nice way to spend 30min when you are on top of the hill, but the cost does not make it worthwhile. A lot of the labyrinth has very underwhelming sections with "historical" representations

  • 5/5 The D. 2 years ago on Google
It’s worth going down there. It feels like the Chamber of Secrets. Do follow the map and signs otherwise you can get lost down there. The caves are a labyrinth in that you think you’re heading the right way and all of a sudden you turn a corner and you hit a dead end. So cool!

It was nice to walk in the labyrinth. Main corridors are enlighted, but some are completely dark. No idea what or who hides there and where they go. I was searching for a dragon for my daughter, but found a giant s... Won't provide spoilers. BTW, there is a nice odor in the toilets, but only guests who find the exit deserve to visit them. 😁

First of all: cash only. Bring cash if you plan to visit. I came with my 11 and 6 year old expecting a tourist trap, but we had legitimate fun. The place is dark, cold and humid and my kids had a blast “getting lost” and finding it spooky. There are random displays of figures, coffins, etc. to make the it entertaining enough. Only downside is that the toilets were filthy. I would say it would be boring for adults alone, and too scary for those with sensitive kids. But for all of us somewhere in the middle, I think it is worth the visit!

Fun change of pace experience. You go deep down below the castle district. However you have to be careful as the floor is wet from drips, and it's best to go when it isn't busy. This place would make a killer haunted house.

A must when you visit Buda. Book a tour, we did via Get Your Guide. 60€ for a family of 5. Brilliant 1.5hr walking tour below Buda Castle with a guide. Toilets at the start of the caves. Amazing historic information on the caves below Buda. Some interesting info such as, it used to be where people stored their wine, restaurants stored their food, homeless lived at one stage, raves took place, World War 2 bunkers where people took refuge during the war..Just amazing history and an absolute must if you visit Budapest.

  • 5/5 Jannik E. 1 year ago on Google
Through some hole in the wall the visitor will find themselves in one of the most bizarre tourist exhibits. Without much historical context (some signage can be located) most of the mazes showroom-coves add to no larger narrative about the creepy mazes existence. Some tunnels are illuminated with strange lights, partly filled with dense fog and sometimes pitch black. You really don’t know what you’ve gotten yourself into. Every turn is a surprise that’s only thematically aligned with the whole through an ever present monotonous medieval soundtrack. A refreshingly under curated tourist adventure.

One of the creepiest and coolest place I've ever visited. The entrance fee is so pricey. We spent less than 10 minutes inside. It was super cold and the ground was so damp. It was too dark therefore it was a little difficult to find your way round.

Somewhat interesting in a small museum kind of way. Rough manmade tunnels (with a somewhat uneven floor) are home to statues of historical leaders, tableaus from the opera, a few metal gates from centuries-old storage areas and examples of traditional masonry.

(Translated by Google) This labyrinth is impressive, if you are claustrophobic, you are afraid of the dark or silence, do not enter. We entered first thing in the morning, so there were almost no people, it did scare me, we came to some passages where there was no light at all, we had to use the telephone light and I felt that a spectrum was going to come out suddenly, we had better go back . Inside there is a museum, small, quite interesting. And I think there is a source of wine, that one I could not find. There are maps for you to find your way and a dim light where you should go, at least that way when we went, in 2015. Dentro hay un museo, pequeño, bastante interesante. Y creo que hay una fuente de vino, esa no logré encontrarla. Very nice labyrinth but if you scary very much or if you scary close places, don't go.

Fun activity with family. Couldn’t do the dark tunnel becoz we all chickened out after entering it LOL. Was traveling with my mom so needed to explore a cave which was easy on the feet and this was perfect.

I loved going here. Very intense and amazing. I would recommend this. Yes it's a bit pricey but worth it. You only live once.

  • 2/5 Alejandra M. 3 years ago on Google
Most of the experience has nothing to do with the history of the place, it looks like an atraction that’s 30 years old... the wax figures, my god... there is wax figures with costumes from the Budapest Opera playing Verdi in the background... WHAT??? There’s a small area that tells a little about Dracula but it is not enough to compensate the bad the experience is.

This is a fun place to go. There are very dark tunnels where you can only see if you have a flashlight. I recommend that you go in a group and not alone. There are also very nice restaurants nearby if you want to eat after. A good place to go once, but i wouldn’t go there again to be honest.

Most interesting spot from all places we visited. Escape games has nothing to this labyrinth!

  • 4/5 Rodya R. 3 years ago on Google
This spot was not exactly what I expected but it was creepy, dark and filled with wax figures in opera costumes so in a way the horror exceeded my expectations. My friend and I had a lot for fun trying to creep each other out in here and it's a memory I still cherish.

Nice stone labyrinth, pretty long, with a completely dark part, scary parts, nice parts and even a fountain. I'd recommend to visit it after a 3d tour in fisherman's bastion, this you know who all these kings are.

(Translated by Google) Set of passageways that labyrinthically go through the most important history of Budapest through busts and figures of historical figures. So far so good, but if it is famous for this place it is for some parts of it that are absolutely terrifying !!! I have had a heavy heart in the area of completely dark passageways and .... the best thing about the place ... follow the fog, thickening, along with the darkness, which lead you to Count Dracula's chamber !! He was locked up there for 10 years, but the signs and especially the iron cage are discovered in the fog and it gives real panic. I have run away hahaha but very happy with the experience. An indelible memory. 3,000 guilders a ticket, about € 8. Getting lost and not following the arrows is what makes this place authentic.
