(Translated by Google) We can spend an adventurous day at the zoo. We can admire countless wonderful and rare animals and plants. We can discover ever-expanding attractions. You should go back often. A bit confusing is the clutter in a couple of locations and the lack of information. With a phone application, all this could be done in multiple languages. Maybe there will be such a development as well. A must visit! Talán lesz ilyen fejlesztés is. Látogatni kötelező!

One of the most interesting features of Heroes' Square is the Millennium Monument, which stands at the center of the square. The monument is made up of two identical semicircular colonnades, each with seven statues of important figures from Hungarian history. The statues are surrounded by a series of reliefs that depict important events from Hungarian history. Another interesting fact about Heroes' Square is that it is home to the Museum of Fine Arts, which is one of the largest art museums in Hungary. The museum has a collection of over 100,000 works of art, including paintings, sculptures, and prints from a variety of different periods and styles. Overall, Heroes' Square is a beautiful and historic destination that is well worth a visit when you are in Budapest. It is a great place to learn more about the rich history of Hungary and to admire some of the country's most important cultural and artistic treasures.

The best historic monuments in Budapest. Millennium monument 1146 Budapest, Hősök tere At the front of the monument is a large stone cenotaph surrounded by an ornamental iron chain. The cenotaph is dedicated "To the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of our people and our national independence." While some guide books refer to this as a "tomb" it is not a burial place. Directly behind the cenotaph is a column topped by a statue of the archangel Gabriel. In his right hand the angel holds the Holy Crown of St. Stephen (Istvan), the first king of Hungary. In his left hand the angel holds a two barred apostolic cross, a symbol awarded to St. Stephen by the Pope in recognition of his efforts to convert Hungary to Christianity. In Hungarian it is referred to as the double cross or the apostolic double cross. At the base of the column is a group of seven mounted figures representing the Magyar chieftains who led the Hungarian people into the Carpathian basin. In the front is Árpád, considered the founder of the Hungarian nation. Behind him are the chieftains Előd, Ond, Kond, Tas, Huba, and Töhötöm (Tétény). Little survives in the historical record about these individuals and both their costumes and their horses are considered to be more fanciful than historically accurate. The back of the monument consists of two matched colonnades, each with seven statues representing great figures of Hungarian history. Topping the outer edge of the left colonnade is a statue of a man with a scythe and a woman sowing seed, representing Labor and Wealth. In the corresponding position on the right colonnade is a statue of a man holding a statue and a woman with a palm frond representing Knowledge and Glory. At the inner top edge of the left colonnade is a male figure driving a chariot using a snake as a whip representing War, while on the facing end of the right colonnade is a female figure in a chariot holding a palm frond representing Peace.

Great place, well organised, a lot of animals from all countries around the world. Easy ticketing service, parking the car was easy to find nearby. One problem though.... inside there is no way to pay by card. It is not ok, especially when you go with your family. Cash only inside if you want to buy food or water. A big minus for this.

This impressive monument is located at the top of Andrássy Avenue, within Heroes Square. The centerpiece, the millennium column, stands 36 meters tall and is quite eye-catching. At the top of the column is the arch angel Gabriel (the protector of the people), and at the base are seven equestrian sculptures depicting the Magyar chieftains.

Nestled in the heart of Budapest, Hero Square stands as a grand testament to the city's rich history and grandeur. As a traveler with an affinity for architectural marvels and cultural landmarks, my visit to Hero Square left me in awe and admiration. The first thing that struck me was the sheer size and grandeur of the square. The towering statues and monumental columns created a sense of magnificence, evoking a feeling of reverence for the heroes and events it commemorates. The central column, crowned by the Archangel Gabriel, is a true spectacle, symbolizing Hungary's history and aspirations. The statues lining the square depict prominent Hungarian leaders and historical figures, each conveying a unique story. From the medieval warriors to the renowned kings and national heroes, the intricate details of the sculptures brought history to life before my eyes. The attention to detail and craftsmanship were exceptional, showcasing the artistic prowess of the sculptors. The surrounding green spaces added a touch of serenity and allowed visitors to appreciate the grandeur of the square from various angles. It provided a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling city, allowing me to reflect on the significance of the historical figures and their contributions to Hungarian society. Hero Square also offers a rich cultural experience. Adjacent to the square, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Art provide a perfect opportunity to delve deeper into Hungary's artistic heritage. The proximity of these cultural institutions creates a harmonious ensemble that immerses visitors in a world of art, history, and national pride. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an art lover, or simply seeking a place of beauty and significance, Hero Square is a must-visit in Budapest. It captures the essence of Hungary's past and pays homage to the extraordinary individuals who shaped the nation. Prepare to be captivated by the grandeur, inspired by the stories, and immersed in the rich tapestry of Hungarian culture at Hero Square.

A large square with monuments and statues of the most outstanding kings, princes and leaders of Hungary. Behind the square is the entrance to a huge park full of various attractions, such as a zoo, one of the most popular thermal baths in Budapest and a large, beautiful castle that really makes an amazing impression.

The best zoo I've been to so far. The variety of animals is amazing. We've walked inside the zoo for around 5 hours and still didn't see everything. The zoo is very well kept, it's very clean and the signs are clear. There's a helpful map (you'll need it, it's a very big place with lots of paths going everywhere) and an information booth in the entrance. For families this is the perfect place to go. Even if you get tired of the zoo there is a very pretty park outside with lots of things to see and lots of playgrounds. It was a fun day for our family.

I give it 3 stars because I have visited the schönbronne zoo in Vienna, firstly, the design of the zoo and access to the different animals needs some changes to facilitate the transition from species to another. However, the zoo has variety of animals and other activities. Different restaurants and soft drinks shops are also available but of expensive prices. For the children, you can hire a small car to pull it and you can access most of the places with it.

(Translated by Google) As a child, I was greatly influenced by the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden. Due to weather factors, it was always planned to visit once a year, which was set for the period from late spring to early autumn. If we want continuous operation, it is inevitable that there will always be areas that are closed or under conversion. And it is not the fault of the zoo that, due to human behavior, newborn or offspring animals, possibly breeding birds, have to be excluded from visitors. I exchanged tickets for fear of previous negative comments, but I did not regret it. A significant part of the zoo can be visited and can still be a full day program if one wants to see everything. I don’t see it in operation, but I think it would take more staff and not start big giga projects (see the case of Pannon Park and Biodom) while there is plenty to develop. It is indeed true that many animals have small catwalks or places. The tigers are obviously not in the best skin, they are thin enough to be seen when they are walking. A significant portion of the zoo is indeed nicely maintained and beautiful (see Palm House, Butterfly House, Angry House, etc.), while some are really tasteless. Where pelicans are dirty, the same is true of the small lake in the Japanese Garden. At Pákásztanya, you can really barely see through the glass, and this is true of penguins, Polar bears, and seals. I didn't raise the ticket price, that was enough for me (HUF 3,300). The question is how the epidemic will affect the Zoo and how the Pannon Park and related Biodom project will proceed. I am afraid that if it is completed, a significant price increase could occur. Before that, however, it would not hurt to remedy the problems mentioned above.

(Translated by Google) The Wheel of Time (English: Idwkerék) is a modern monument in Budapest. This is one of the world's largest hourglasses. It was established in 2004 in honor of Hungary's accession to the European Union. The clock is installed near the entrance to the city park Városliget, to the right of Heroes' Square. The clock is located on the site of a former monument to Lenin, which was dismantled in 1993 and moved to Memento Park. The watch is a huge wheel. It is made of red granite, steel and impact-resistant glass. The watch is 8 meters (26 feet) in diameter, 2 meters wide and weighs 60 tons. Inside the wheel is six tons of sand. Sand in a watch is a glass granule that seeps through a small hole using a computerized system that maintains the exact amount and speed of sand. The sand is poured from the upper glass chamber to the lower within one year. It was planned to turn the clock 180 degrees annually on December 31 to start counting down the next annual cycle. The clock can be turned by four people with the help of steel ropes. It takes about 45 minutes to rotate the clock 180 degrees. The idea for the giant hourglass came from philosopher Janos Herner, who, along with several friends - architect Istvan Janaki, artist Gabor Caratson and Laszlo Krasnahorkai - was looking for sponsors to implement the project. The architectural design of the clock was developed by Istvan Yanaki. According to the original idea, the wheel was to roll on the square, moving along the steel rail, rotating the hourglass. However, by 2004, when the construction of the monument began, the plan of the area where the monument was planned to be placed had already been developed, so the installation of rails in this place was not possible. The project was revised and it was decided to create a wheel that will be attached to the support and will rotate around its axis. Initially, the project was prepared before the beginning of 2000 and was conceived as a "millennium project". But it was not possible to find financing for the project in time, so the project implementation was postponed indefinitely. In 2003, the Hungarian government decided to implement the project, and a decision was made to dedicate a monument to Hungary's accession to the European Union. The Wheel of Time was to become a kind of symbol of Hungary's transition to a new stage in its history. The construction was financed by the Hungarian government. In total, the government has allocated 240 million forints, another 80 million was invested by the creators of the project. Before the opening day of the Wheel of Time, small souvenir glass drops with sand were made, which symbolized one second. A total of 1,700 glass drops were sold during the opening.

MILLENNIUM MONUMENT Directly behind the cenotaph stands a column crowned with a statue of the archangel Gabriel. In his right hand, the angel holds the Holy Crown of St. Stephen, the first king of Hungary. In his left hand, the angel grasps a two-barred apostolic cross, a symbol granted to St. Stephen by the Pope to honor his endeavors in converting Hungary to Christianity. At the column's base, a group of seven mounted figures symbolize the Magyar chieftains who led the Hungarian people into the Carpathian basin. The rear of the monument is composed of two matching colonnades, each adorned with seven statues representing significant figures from Hungarian history. Crowning the outer edge of the left colonnade is a statue of a man holding a scythe and a woman sowing seeds, embodying Labor and Wealth. Positioned at the inner end of the left colonnade is a male figure driving a chariot with a snake as a whip, symbolizing War. At the inner end of the right colonnade stands a female figure in a chariot, holding a palm frond to represent Peace. Finally, at the outer end of the right colonnade, a dual statue portrays a man holding a small golden figurine and a woman bearing a palm frond, embodying Knowledge and Glory.

Stately and imposing. Iconic Millennium Monument located within Heroes Square, Budapest. There are statues representing the Seven chieftains of the Magyars, other important Hungarian national leaders, and the Memorial Stone of Heroes. Unesco Heritage Site. Worth a visit

It is a nice walk along Andrassy street and at the end of it you will come to the Heroes' square with really impressive monument. Definitely one of the historic places in Budapest you should visit and check out. It is beautiful during the day, but really magnificent during the night! Must visit place in Budapest.

One of the most essential square in Hunggary. It has some scluptures that represent national heroes. For me, all statues are really artsy and in cool styles. . It is erected in 1800s commemorating 1000 years anniversary of Hunggary border defended by hunggarians. This square is surrounded by two important buildings, Museum of fine arts and Palace of Arts. It is easy to get there by metro btw.

The buildings around you take you with the thought of where in the past highlighting the big market. Next to it is the zoo that I recommend to visit. The white contrast of the columns highlight the green color of the statues. I didn't have the opportunity to visit the market at night, but I will definitely repeat the experience. Behind the monument is a lake and a bridge that leads to Vajdahunyad Castle. Pay attention to the boulevard, because the traffic is very dense and traffic lights are frequent. Nu am avut ocazia sa vizitez piata noaptea, dar cu siguranță o sa repet experiența. In spatele monumentului se afla un lac si un pod care duce spre Castelul Vajdahunyad. An all-day programme. A place with very beautiful gardens and pathways, lots of shade is available during the summer. There are so many things to see, I can't even name all of them. Wide range scale of wild animals can be seen, they keep them well fed, they get to go outside. Altough I am fighting with the negative thoughts of these animals being "locked up", they seem to have a nice life. There are a few restaurants available at the territory of the zoo, plus many buffets as you walk around.

It is a very informative and interactive Zoo. Not my favourite in Hungary, simply because it is a bit crowded and it is in the middle of the city and the railway is just next to it. That probably stresses the animals a lot. Also at the moment 1/3 of it is closed down, that might be useful information. I recommend the langos place on top of the cliffs, the pricing is a bit high, but the food is good.

Literally, a giant wheel designed to mark time, the public installation was built in 2004 to commemorate Hungary’s inclusion into the European Union. The giant wheel is slightly concave, sloping towards the center choke point that marks the upper and lower grain reservoirs. In the case of the Timewheel, the particles that fall to mark the passage of time are tiny pieces of glass which trickle through the clock with the help of a computerized system that keeps the timing perfect. Both the upper and lower reservoirs can be viewed through large triangular panes of glass in the wheel.

A great place for a quick historical visit. If you get the chance then take in some of the military pomp and pageantry. Several times a year visiting diplomats lay wreaths on the tomb of the unknown soldier (even during the pandemic) and on August 20th, the national St. Stephen's day holiday, military officers are sworn in.

Millennium Monument is situated in the middle of Heroes Square. Heroes Sqaure is a part of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Millennium Monument majorly features statues of 7 cheiftans or leaders. At the front of the monument there is one large stone cenotaph ( like tomb) surrounded by iron chain and is dedicated "To the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of our people and our national independence." The back of the monument consists of two matched colonnades, each with seven statues representing great figures of Hungarian history. We also got to see a parade of army at the square .

A beautiful sculptural composition that carries a sacred meaning for the Hungarians. Created in 1896 to commemorate 1000 years of the conquest of this former province of Rome. It was called Pannonia. At the time of the arrival of the ancient Hungarian tribes, there was a Blatensky principality. The last prince is Braslav. (Pannonian Croatia). Lived - Slavs, Celts, Avars. Well, there were. They have undergone a very harsh Magyarization. Pannonia was finally conquered in 901.Simply put, they were cut out, they did not waste time on assimilation. Something like this. In general, there are leaders in the sculptural group. From Istvan I Saint and to ... to ... to ... Beautiful square, in short) Interestingly, initially it was all built in honor of Franz Joseph Habsburg, therefore statues of five representatives of the Habsburg dynasty were installed on the colonnade: Ferdinand I, Charles VI, Maria Theresa, Leopold II and Franz Joseph. (sorry, it was a mess with Vicki, so as not to spoil the names). So they changed them. Under the communists, under Horthy, then again. In general, now - specific leaders and leaders;)

Hősök tere  or Heroes' Square, is one of the major squares in Budapest, Hungary, noted for its iconic Millennium Monument with statues featuring the Seven chieftains of the Magyars and other important Hungarian national leaders, as well as the Memorial Stone of Heroes, often erroneously referred as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The square lies at the outbound end of Andrássy Avenue next to City Park (Városliget). It hosts the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Art (Műcsarnok). The square has played an important part in contemporary Hungarian history and has been a host to many political events. Most sculptures were made by sculptor György Zala from Lendava, with one made by György Vastagh.

A beautiful sqaure with statues and a tall column in the middle. I would recommend spending some time here for photographs etc. It's quite similar to other sqaures in capital cities, but definitely worth visiting. It's next to the museum of fine art and if you walk away from the city centre across the river, you reach a small castle too.

Definitely add this to your walking tour. Largest and most symbolic square in Budapest. It was designed in 1896 to mark the 1000th anniversary of the Magyar conquest of the Carpathian Basin. Behind it is City Park and the thermal baths.

Visited Budapest a couple of weeks ago. The heroes square has a high historical value which makes it a must see place on your tour through the city. It’s majestic. Only thing missing there around the square is maybe some benches. Can be modern benches, integrated in the total surrounding. Can be a tip to the Hungarian officials 🙃

One of the most famous monuments and squares in Budapest. The square is pretty big, in the middle is the millennium monument and on the sides there are statues depicting the most important history figures in the Hungarian history. Even though there is nothing much to do here, I would still recommend visiting this swuare. A few museums just a few steps from the Heroes Square.

The square is dominated by the Millennium Monument, an impressive structure that pays tribute to Hungary's past heroes and leaders. The monument stands tall and proud, with statues representing important figures from Hungarian history. It serves as a reminder of the nation's struggles and triumphs throughout the centuries. Surrounding the square are several other notable buildings, including the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Art. These architectural marvels add to the grandeur of Hero's Square and provide visitors with an opportunity to explore Hungary's artistic treasures. In addition to its historical significance, Hero's Square also serves as a gathering place for various events and celebrations throughout the year. From concerts to festivals, there is always something happening at this vibrant location.

It is UNESCO world heritage site. There is very beautiful park beside it and also two museums and a monument plus a balloon ride sight and thermal bath and also ZOO. The square features seven chieftains of the Magyars and other Hungarian national leaders. The best time to visit it in early morning and the evening, it is well connected with public transportation. A public-paid parking is also available there.

Big square with a big monument. It gets very hot there during the summer. By the time when I visited it they were building a temporary infrastructure for Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championship.

Heroes Square is a very lovely monument with its tribute to the original seven tribes that founded hungry and behind them you can see other kings and nobility men of hungry’s past. It’s also nice that it goes right onto a Park so you can enjoy it walking back there and finding a Castle or the statue Anonymous. Who brings inspiration to writers who touch the pen he holds.

Nice place to visit during the stay In Budapest. Some good places to take photos and souvenir shop and then a nice walk around the area. The only bad thing I’d say is lots of rude people around pushing through to get photos while people are waiting at the Budapest sign.
