GELLERT STATUE The statue of Bishop Szent Gellert stands on the edge of its district, on the Buda side, on Gellert Hill, at an approximate elevation of 40 meters. Created in 1904, the composition comprises two figures: a central 7-meter-tall bronze statue of Bishop Gellert and a marble side figure representing a converted pagan Hungarian. The Bishop Gellert statue holds a cross high in his right hand, with his left hand over his heart in speech, while at his feet stands the figure of the convert. This sculptural arrangement was designed for the spot where Bishop Gellert met a martyr's fate at the hands of the pagans. The sculpture ensemble is enclosed by a semicircular colonnade. A waterfall at the hill's base across from the Elisabeth Bridge completes the overall monument.

It's a nie View Point from where you can see the whole city. Also, the bridge is located perfectly in from of the view point. The hike to this point takes about 10-15 minutes depending on how fast you go. It's an easy hike with stairs and paved pathway. The location provides stunning view especially during sunrise and sunset and you can also see the palace on the other mountain.

We were fully drunk while walking up to mc nigginik, one of us gave up, the other one vomited, but in the end it was worth it. It’s like a statue build from god, great view over the city, nice girls, everything you could wish for. I truly recommend this place, sober or drunk, at night or day, the mc nigginik (or as we would say also the fat Budai) will make your day better. In the end, awesome place Side note: you have to be careful, the stone is slippery, just like Someone had the unspeakable and covered the whole stones in Vaseline…

Statue of St. Gerard on Gellett Hill (Buda). Gerard was a monk and teacher who stopped a pilgrimage to assist in the conversion of Hungary. Was said to have been martyred on this hill in 1046 during a pagan uprising. Canonized in 1083 and one of 3 patron saints of Hungary.

Monument together with a small phenomenal waterfall. The entrance, on the other hand, is quite nicely surrounded by greenery.

Monument like many, but view on the city is fantastic. Interesting is figure, who is looking with worship on Gellert, placed under his feets.

There is not much here; a statue and a water fall under, but the hike was wonderful. We started the hike at Buda Castle and finished it at Liberty statue and back to Gellert Hill fall. The view of the city was great from here.

In addition to the St Gerard statue, this location offers excellent views towards Buda Castle and the Parliament building.

Hiked up to this structure and observation area in early March 2023 and was rewarded with a great view of Buda Castle, river Danube, and Elisabeth Bridge (Erzsébet híd).

The monument is nice and the views from the point are awesome. Unfortunately you cannot enjoy the spot because it is full of garbage. No respect to the place from the people.

Worth the trek up the steps to take in the views over the Danube. Quite unloved though, lots of graffiti and growth from the shrubs, you would have expected sites like these to be better cards for.

Better to see from a distance, huge statue overlooking the city.

The statue is cool to see from the street but I wouldn't suggest doing the hike to get to the top. There's not much there but a half decent view. I would suggest Fisherman's Bastion for a good view.

The statue itself and its surroundings look magnificent. Unfortunately it is under construction and we couldn't walk around it. I hope there will be some tables aor walls with informations about Saint Gerard Sagredo and the statue itself in different languages so we can learn more about it.

Nice place with an amazing view over the Danube riverside and city center, it's also connected to a park over the hill and not reachable without taking stairs

Perfect panorama! Easy to reach from the Bridge. It's good in afternoons when the sun shines the Pest side since it's setting behind the hill.

A very cool statue looking over Budapest and the Danube. You can walk from one side of gelart to the fisherman’s bastion fairly simply.

Loved the Gerald of Csanad Monument. Great place the start your hike to the top of the hill and see the Liberty Statue and all the amazing views! If your looking to just get to the Gerard of Csanad Monument it is a much shorter walk than it appears but make sure you go up even a little further as the views are stunning.

Very sad to go there full of garbage uncleaned unkept landscape and as pictured even the homeless have moved in. Budapest under current mayor is really slipping more litter more unkept green space homeless all over in subways tram and bus stops. Budapest starting to look like a 3rd world city and losing its charm

Cool looking statue, relatively on top of a waterfall. If you hike the hill, you'll see it, maybe even get close to it (But from upclose the view is not really good)

  • 3/5 Rok S. 2 years ago on Google
Statue of bishop Gellert, the hill is named after him. He was thrown of it to death over 900 years ago, because the king refused christianity. But u see a nice view on Buda castle.
