A
characteristic
11-story
building
built
in
1961–1967
based
on
the
design
of
Andrzej
Skorupa
and
Jacek
Burzyński.
The
inspiration
for
this
project
was
probably
a
house
on
a
chicken
leg
straight
from
the
fairy
tales
of
Baba
Yaga.
The
basis
of
the
structure
of
the
Trzonolinowiec
is
a
reinforced
concrete
core,
which
transfers
vertical
compressive
loads
to
the
base
of
the
building.
There
are
ceilings
in
the
form
of
square
platforms
suspended
on
twelve
steel
ropes.
The
ropes
are
attached
to
the
top
of
the
shaft
and
transfer
the
weight
of
the
ceilings
to
it.
To
stiffen
the
structure,
they
are
also
anchored
at
ground
floor
level.
The
lowest
floor
is
suspended
above
the
undeveloped
space
around
the
core.
Unlike
traditional
buildings,
which
are
built
from
the
bottom,
Trzonolinowiec
was
built
from
the
top
floor.
Individual
floors,
built
at
ground
floor
level
from
ready-made
prefabricated
elements,
were
lifted
by
hydraulic
cylinders.
The
structure,
initially
hanging
on
ropes,
was
stiffened
with
concrete
in
1974
and
reinforced
with
steel
columns
on
the
ground
floor.
Curtain
and
internal
walls
were
also
replaced.
Currently,
it
is
no
longer
a
hanging
building,
but
a
frame
building.
In
1967,
the
building
received
the
title
of
House
of
the
Year.
Artists
from
Wrocław's
scenes
were
located
in
Trzobolinowiec.
At
the
beginning
of
their
career,
they
lived
here,
among
others:
Bogusław
Linda
and
Krzysztof
Globisz.
Today,
mainly
students
live
there.
