Bukit Mertajam is temporarily closed due to renovation. Expected to reopen in February 2024. Those who want to enter need to go through the dam and descend from there.

Best place for hiking, it's not very hard to climb and can easily completed under 90 minutes for a beautiful sunset or sunrise. Besides there is a nice waterfall near by With a nice relaxing sounds of birds . A must come to visit place.

I love nature so much whenever I seen it I feel so calm n my brain feel empty. The scenery is very delightful. Good for hiking, walk or jogging. The air is very fresh especially in the morning and the hill is beautiful. Recommended to view with your own eyes

An excellent spot to unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can take a variety of trails. Crisp air and the sound of a little waterfall cascading down the smooth stone surface are accompanied by stunningly lush vegetation. Wonderful clouds that resemble fluffy candies can be seen floating through the breeze in the early morning from the top view. The blue jewelled pond that reflects the sky in a pleasant and tranquil manner may be fascinating to certain people.

It was a good way to move your muscles, get sweat, calm and serenity. Unpaved trail are fairly easy, still it all depending on your stamina and strength. What differs, are the time taken to reach the destination. As for myself just an average beginner hiker, with proper hiking shoes, it took me an hour and 30 mins. First timer as I research will take approximately 2 hours and 15 mins, just ascending. The rest i would let you guys experience it. I just want to give some tips which nowhere to be found and caused us confused for a while. Once you reached the car park with that signoboard "Taman Rimba Bukit Mertajam", immediately the carpark youre seeing is the first one, you can drive further around 50m there's the 2nd carpark space. You'll walk forward, you'll come to a junction where on your left where most of the crowds taking will be the cemented paved trail, that trail will lead you all the way to the top where you'll see the cellular tower. Theres marking on the paved way forgotten started "CH3000" all the way up to the top "CH0" thats the mileage for you keep track with. Okay now, at the junction, since on your left is the paved trail, while going straight, you'll see a stainless steel gate, im attaching picture so that you guys can visualize it. Beyond this stainless steel gate is the unpaved trail, a lil bit challenging and fun, well, youre closer to nature. I would suggest not to go up alone, unless youre a seasoned and avid hiker with good sense direction, at least a company of 1. LOOK FOR THE STAINLESS STEEL GATE as in the picture. That is all my tips that confused me, i already walked up on the paved trail for 10 mins then i decided to go back down looking for the unpaved trail, i mean we were planning for the unpaved trail to begin with. A nice place for trekking trails in nature in mainland penang,but for pulau penang residence like me i think it is not worth it to go that long way there, as pulau penang has much more beautiful trekking trails

It is not easy to get here to the largest tree in Penang. The route quite slippery and narrow. Trekking track quite tricky but with the signage available it does help us a lot. I found snake and gigantic insect on the way down. Rope available too on the way up. So for those who said "to get here is easy, you are a liar!".

Bukit Mertajam Recreational Forest is a great place for health-conscious people who like to do outdoor activities. This nature environment is suit for someone who like to do outdoor activities like hiking and walking.

It look like a forest, No staff was found on 3rd day of Eid. We went for short distance inside it was thick jungle, scene were frigheting . However area is good for hiking provided that some staff guiding is availabe

I drove here from Penang Island simply to go up and down the hill and did it twice on the same day! First time round was through the forest route (lost my Oakleys in the process) and then on the return decided to go up and down again using the tarmac route! Exhausted but well worth the effort...
