Altstadt in Burghausen is a beautiful place to sit in a biergarten and enjoy some good Bavarian food and beer while viewing a 1,000 year old castle above. Highly recommend this place.

Beautiful small old town. Everything is within walking distance. Not much restaurants around but sufficient for the town size. Beautiful night view of the castle from the old town. Walk across the bridge, you'll get beautiful view of the castle too.

Burghausen is famous for having one of the longest castle complexes in the world, as well as its well-preserved medieval architecture and charming streets. Burghausen Castle dominates the old town and is a prominent feature of the city's skyline. The castle complex stretches along a ridge and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area. It is a testament to the city's rich history, with parts of the castle dating back to the 11th century. Originally built to protect the important trade route along the Salzach River, the castle has since become a symbol of the city's heritage. The Old Town itself features cobblestone streets, historic buildings and charming squares that reflect the medieval character of the city. Visitors can explore the narrow alleys, visit quaint shops and enjoy the local Bavarian architecture. The city also hosts various events, festivals and markets that bring the Old Town to life and showcase its cultural heritage. One of the most famous events is the annual Burghausen Castle Festival, which features cultural performances, concerts and theatrical shows set against the backdrop of the castle. Overall, the magnificent old town offers visitors a journey back in time, allowing them to experience the charm and history of a medieval Bavarian town.

Very beautiful old town with plenty of old buildings. You can cross the border to Austria over the river Salzach. There is a stunning old church worth visiting. Cosy little restaurants and café's. Plenty of benches to rest and enjoy the atmosphere.
