Update: PERMANENTLY CLOSED (Covid ruined it). SFU NOW HAS NO PUB OR ANYTHING. It's a cool place - they've done a good job with the renovation and concept. Good service too. And a solid happy hour menu. But I have a huge complaint: the menu is basically the same as the Town Halls on paper, and the food prices are the same (high for pub fare), yet the quality of the food is generally way worse. They seem to be charging the same but choosing to lower the quality a lot. The burger buns are poor and the burgers in general are composed worse and are of lower quality with smaller patties, the beef in the beef dip meat is SO dry it's almost jerky, the pasta is bland, all of their bread items seem less than fresh, and the presentation of all the dishes is worse than at the other JRG pubs. I don't understand it. Why is the food quality so much worse at this location compared to the other places in the chain?? I expect way more from the food at a Joseph Richard establishment. Given the lower quality, the food prices are insane. Either improve the food or lower prices!

Waited 10 minutes for our server after we got sat by the host. Then waited another 15 minutes for our drinks. Had to ask for water 3 times before it came. Ordered food off of the happy hour menu and our server forgot to punch it in, came back 20 minutes later and proceeded to ask if we still wanted to order it + pay regular menu price. Like what? Literally didn't even receive the most standard level of service. You would expect more from a restaurant with higher average prices.

I'd like to write a review here to let everyone know how the study is doing post-pandemic. To be frank it's terrible, they removed the greatest item from the menu, the chicken tenders, which were great for munching and were a hit with their primary clientele of university students. I'm not sure what they were thinking, not to mention all other food ordered as a replacement was bland and disappointing. I went in with a group and everyone including another couple I know that dined separately was very upset with the service and food they received. The study has always had terrible service, I once waited an hour to be even greeted by a server, even AFTER asking someone at the bar to come and serve us. But I kept going back because the food was decent and the atmosphere was awesome. But with this change in menu and overall food quality, even the last redeeming quality of this restaurant has been removed. 0/10 don't recommend.

Ordered takeout on this Toyko fried chicken burger and my god it was awful :( bread was stale, the batter falls apart as I bite into it. The chicken breast was dried too. It was felt like leftover. For this burger and some fried for $19 + tax it was a waste of money and my time.

Amazing fun and relaxing atmosphere. Staff was great and food was delicious. Filled with a good handful of events, this place is the perfect getaway from your school stress. Haha. Would recommend to come in small groups of 4 ish.

Pre-covid this place was so amazing, now its so bad. Music is so loud and they will change it/stop it at the worst times so you go from yelling to being dead silent. Food is so bad. I've been twice since campus opened up and cannot express how disappointing it has been both times. Tokyo burger was so salty and tasted like it was drenched in vinegar and nothing else, it was so hard to eat. Another friend had the mac and cheese and the Doritos on top were soggy from being warm and the whole thing tasted super burnt b/c of it. Wish they would go back to the old menu :(

The best restaurant/pub near SFU! They have a similar menu as many other JRG locations (Townhall etc...), but their Cottage Pie is the best, hands down! Their craft beer selection on draft is impressive with many local options (Twin Sails, Four Winds, etc...). I'll definitely be returning when in the area. Also, the watermelon mojito is super tasty.

I've never written a review but this was so bad I had to. Walked in at 4pm. No one came over despite many walking passed us and we kept trying to get their attention. So at 4:15 I wander off to find menus for my table as two servers clearly watched. At 4:30 someone finally walks over and takes our order, it wasn't even his section. Food came pretty quick but trying to get our servers attention for the bill took another 10 minutes. Good food, good prices, HORRIBLE SERVICE every time. Only reason for 2 stars is the nice waiter who kept doing our servers work even though his section was busy.

My buddy and I on a whim decided to check it this place out on a late Sunday afternoon & though rather few customers, the atmosphere, staff and choices made the visit more than worthwhile. We decided to lounge in the corners on our amazingly comfortable leather teak armchairs. Beautiful space and tons of potential as informed Thursday is the best evening to take in the place as it's rather crowded with plenty of fun found throughout this great games pub and grill. We're definitely returning with friends in hand, even if it means taking a well worth it drive out of the city.

I've been here 3 times since its opened and received bad service every time. Each time I was served by a different person, and they were all rude. The food and drinks are good and the prices are decent and thats the only reason why they're getting 2 stars

Happy hour is good, but considering it's on a university campus it's no student bar.

A place for the local crowd, don't bother coming from outside as there is so much construction it is prohibitive. We had the chicken stir-fry which was fantastic, along with the quasadea.

Def a great place to visit. The food is slightly expensive but so worth it and the drinks were pretty good too! Only downside was I had to wait at least 10-15 minutes to order anything otherwise it has beautiful arcade games, a pool table and a couple of table tennis courts. Overall a beautiful place to go out on a date or with a couple of friends :)

The first time we went the food was quite salty but on the return visit it was much much better. Drinks are delicious and the atmosphere is great. The patio is now set up which is great for the sunny evenings.

Service and management is great. This is the second time I've eaten there and I have to say the food is underwhelming. This time, we ordered The Study of Dips and found it was mediocre. Not many chips, the dips don't taste as good as competitors. The price points seem similar to Browns, Earls or Cactus Club but the quality isn't quite there. That said, I'd go back to have a drink again because the staff seemed great!

Ordered the fish tacos and the guacamole and chips. Fish tacos came out cold and the wrap was hard like it was left out for awhile. Guacamole and chips were fine but smaller portions that other JRG locations. They were also extremely understaffed - even the cooks had to come out and serve the food.

The happy hour here is great... food and drinks are delicious! They have a downstairs area that is more of a gaming section. Great place to unwind after a long day. However, the upstairs area gets pretty busy and there are often large groups of people and/or tables reserved, so best to come earlier than later!

Be prepared to wait 45min-1hour for your food even if there isn't many costumers . It will also arrive cold. One time I ordered a beer for myself and a friend and the beers came 15 minutes apart of each-other. This place is a joke when it comes to service not due to the actual servers but the servers being under staffed. Management needs to figure it out. Not coming back here though for a while.

I was ID'd at brunch... when no one had ordered liquor? And we weren't even sitting near the pub? And no one else at the table was ID'd? Very confusing. But I have had good drinks here

Beautiful space with fun games and outlets to plug into, making it convenient for students. Despite the general atmosphere and tasty food, I have consistently had terrible service with every visit. I have had to go up to the front to ask for service or wave someone down, and the staff always seem annoyed, even when our table has been waiting 20+ minutes for menus when hardly anyone is in the restaurant. Whenever I have spoken to management they seem unbothered and are often quite rude. It's such a shame for a campus pub, that should be part of ultimately promoting student life and community.
