I really don't like how they manage the sauce. They gave very small sauce plate, and we have to walk back and easily to spill out. We request to get bigger bowl, but they refuse to give us, end up we have to walk 2-3 times. It is OK to set a sauce area but please give bigger sauce plate. And the sauce very salty. The workers also work did not work smart. The chinese tea is refillable, we ordered 3 cold and 2 hot, end up they bring only 1 kettle of hot, after we ask them how about the cold one? And they wanted to take away the hot one and replace the cold one... @@ and they ask how many cup of ice do you want... I'm like thinking why don't you just bring another jug of ice Chinese tea, then we no need to keep calling you to refill the ice. @@ Price is higher than before. The taste not like before the pandemic. We ordered the big pot but seem like the portion decreased. After the experice overall OK but would not consider go agian.

bad services from the beginning when I was queuing for my turn. Their system to arrange table for customer is messy where at first I was told to wait for half an hour but ended up an hour! one of the waitress is very rude ! She messed up the queue system but insist that she’s not at fault and shouted back. Management should really improve on the queue system by implementing the digital display of queue number so that human error can be avoided. Food quality dropped but price hiked. Taken all these, I’ll never come again and never suggest my friends to come.

The shop has recently reopened back after closing down due to the pandemic. They allowed booking through calling/ WhatsApp, else expect to wait 1 hour during weekend/ holiday. To be honest, not sure if it is due to they just reopened back, the quality has dropped (compared to pre-pandemic time). They have quite a number of waiters/ waitresses, however we have to repeat several times to get all the ordered items. Hopefully, they will improve after the business stabilises. The price has also increased, but I think this is definitely inevitable as all raw materials cost has increased tremendously. Hope to have back the good old Zi Wei Yuan. :)

Everytime before I go eating a steamboat meal, I'm always excited as it's a meal of sharing joy and also a meal where I become my own chef. This round, we are going to an authentic steamboat place that runs on coal and only has one type of soup base (Fish Head Noodle Soup) which is so interesting. If you have been following my reviews, I do go and try a new steamboat place almost every week. Well as an opener to this review.. This restaurant is one of my 2020 best steamboat. After the staff fires up the totally authentic steamboat (see pictures) they put a customised fan that is able to control how fast or slow you want the soup to boil (that's cool). I quickly threw some ingredients into the pot such as fishball, meat, and their signature fish head....and waited anxiously for my first bite. Well.. It was amazingly nice...as the soup base was excellent combination with the ingredients I put earlier. 5 🌟 for the fish head meat... A must try here. Goes really well with their special chilli sauce. Also do try a bowl of Fish Head Noodles. Also had a chat with the nice owner, who has 18 years of experience running this steamboat..which was kinda amazing. Zi Wei Yuan was recommended by a lot of locals when I asked for a nice steamboat restaurant here and almost all recommended this place which actually didn't dissapoint. Well... Being there for slightly over an hour.. I can feel and see happy faces all around enjoying the food and just chit chatting which is actually the whole idea of going for a steamboat meal in the first place. If you’re catching up for a wonderful gathering with friends and family, do check out this steamboat resraurant. Do give this review a like...Thank you #steamboatman

Very tasty soup base. We chose yam based with fried fish. This is the very few steamboat place where they still use the traditional charcoal. Limited parking around the area unless willing to pay for parking.

Food is good with good location but parking space is not good. Food variety should be increased.

The food quality has deteriorated ever since they changed a new owner. The soup was so salty that i can hardly enjoy it. The fried fish that we ordered was soft and mushy + super duper salty as if its was salted fish. The whole experience was a disaster as I couldn’t finish the meal because of the saltiness which never happened to me in any other restaurant before.

Nice milky soup steamboat. I ordered small fried fish a la carte option. Price on the high side but still reasonable for the quality. Dipping sauce is simple and not as fancy as other places. Open air space with lots of fan so it's not hot when eating. Parking next door, 4RM per entrance, bring over the coupon and they rebate that for you.

Still 1 of my favourite steamboat in Penang. I love the super soft yam and milk inside the soup. The soup can top up unlimited. The sour chili souce also one of the good combination. Price a bit up side but still reasonable.

Soup was delicious as can taste natural sweet & milky soup from flatfish ,sour plum & fried yam that is boiled together for long hours . First time here but food is good.

They offer complimentary parking beside the restaurant, and you just need to take the ticket to the counter to have it waived from your bill. The food quality is above average, although I noticed that the fried fish had a slightly fishy smell.

One of the best Steamboat in Penang. Nothing to complaint. Plenty of parking spaces. Soup is nice. Portion is big and my suggestion go for package and it is sufficient. Do top up after you feel not enough. All food is fresh. Highly recommended. Big tables can fit 10ppl. Go early as it is crowded around 7pm weekend

With new owner, the soup slightly different, no much yam taste. Lesser variety and flexibility for set if you do not eat particular food, eg pork stomach. Also, they will ask for your phone number in order to order food. 3 star for forcing to give phone number. Drink is expensive for herbal tea.

Feeling thirsty after 2 hours of having fish steamboat. Lack of food choices and pricy. However, you will get full customer service, bigger dining space and refundable RM4 onsite parking.

Food taste ok, but we experienced bad service from Yvonne, one of the supervisors. The way she talks to us is very rude and impatient 👎🏻

Happy that it opened back, but the taste has changed, soup is very mild compare to last time, just an average clear soup steamboat with a hint of fish, totally cannot taste the yam inside

Still the best fish steamboat in Penang. The quality and soup base is still maintained even after change of owner. Fish is fresh although the food selection may not be as wide as others. It's a must visit steamboat restaurant if u r up to Northern region.

Went here to eat and the restaurant suddenly lost power, total darkness, no way to eat. The staff and even the owner, did not provide any power outage equipment for customers to continue to eat, but also let customers carry their own cell phones to light up their food to continue to eat their food, obviously not the first time that other people have experienced this power outage. The result is still not prepared any equipment to allow customers to continue to eat, rechargeable light no, rechargeable fan no, but also a piece of paper is not available, no way to provide customers with their own fan heat, eat fire nest no electricity no wind can not be hot dead customers? Feel this time has replaced the boss, before the boss really good attitude, this experience is really bad attitude service is not sincere!
