We had a book for 4 days. When we arrived at 3am in the morning, the guy in the reception says that was the hostel was full booked so they didn’t have a room for us. We booked with more than a week in advance and they didn’t notice us anything until we arrive there. Imagine arriving there at 3am and having to look for a new place to go. DONT RESERVE THIS PLACE

Please do not go to this place. 1. It is not hygienic. The sheets are not clean and you have to PAY to get them laundered. There are also cats FROM OUTSIDE running all over the place, eating out of the trash, and sneaking in to your room or the rest room. Feral cats are not clean! 2. There are no towels provided upon arrival. When I asked for towels I was given to semi-dirty towels with stains on them. 3.They never state this on the website but there is an indirect CURFEW. They lock the doors to get in the building around 11:00. So you have to endlessly call someone to get in if you stay out a second after midnight. 4. Be weary if you have Egyptian friends or family members because they can not come over. The receptionist will kick them out and tell you that you “cannot have visitors”. Which is insane because you paid for a private room.Even if we were in the public lounge area they would be kicked out. 5.The room is not temperature regulated. I went in winter so it is super cold and no matter how much I cranked the heat I still went to bed with shivers. 6. You think you would “enjoy” the hostile being on a busy street but you won’t. It is extremely hard to walk anywhere with the non existent traffic/pedestrian laws and catching a taxi is extremely difficult. The busy streets are not your friend. 7.This place is supposed to have internet. And if your reading this too late the password is Kangaroo13. HOWEVER, the internet is incredibly slow and useless. 8.Another hygienic flaw is that there is dust and hair...everywhere. On the furniture in the air etc. 9.If you have asthma or cannot stand the spell of smoke please do not come here. The facility is supposed to be non smoking but people smoke inside and when I told the receptionist about this he laughed and opened a window. 10. I know it’s cheap to stay here but you’ll have a better time if you found somewhere else.

We booked a 4 bed room and they gave us a 3 bed. They then made us pay extra for an additional room so we didn't have to sleep together. Bathroom was very smelly with poor drainage but it's very cheap. Only reason it's not 1 star is the central location + low price.

Room The rooms are on the 3rd and 5th floor. For Americans, that’s the 4th and 6th floors. That’s a lot of stairs multiple time per day for some, so be aware. The room was relatively clean, but rough around the edges. The tub needed a good scrubbing for example. I stayed in a private ensuite. Everything worked, but the water pressure was horrible. I had to turn off the water every 60 seconds to let the pressure build. Otherwise no issues. Air conditioning, mini fridge, hot water—they all worked. The rooms were pretty quaint also. Service Service was stellar. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. I exchange currency right at reception for an amazing rate! Location Location is perfect if you want to stay downtown. The food in the area is epic and real cheap. I felt very safe, and there’s a lot of shopping here. But you are not close to much else as far as major tourist sites. Taxi from the airport to the hostel was about $10.

I arrived at the hostel on May 7th at 2am only to be told that there are no available rooms even tho I reserved a room through booking from May 6th to May 14th, I had to leave and roam calling hotels at 3am to find a place to spend the night and sleep in, it was horrible!

-Not very clean -$40 service for nonexistent service -cameras everywhere for “safety” but they are actually watching everything you do -receptionist knocks on your door at night to tell you things. That confused me -Constantly smelled like smoke - I have a weird feeling the rooms are never cleaned -Cats are everywhere you walk. Like literal cats -Some of the employees are cool but some are creepy and annoying -Do not go out at night or you will be locked out -walls are very thin so I heard people in the next room -I would just recommend going to a more private and secure hostel if you want to travel with o P.O. race and dignity.

Good location if you're wanting to be in the center of Cairo. The deluxe rooms where good for the price, balcony view was bad and didn't show anything. Staff were nice and friendly and overall the place was pretty good for the price.

Well I thought I was gonna have a pleasant stay here but in the end I’m pretty sure the staff stole money from my bag as they were the only ones who knew it was there. Only two other guests in room both young backpackers who didn’t know I had cash. Anyway when I confronted staff they were no help and essentially said it was my fault and they were no help. Joke of a place. Don’t stay here.

Location is good for exploring downtown Cairo. The entrance is a little strange. There is a big sign above the door but the reception is on the 3rd floor. Rooms are big and comfy. Breakfast is nice (eggs, bean sauce, bread and some vegetables). Friendly staff and possibility to store your luggage.

Super friendly people, at the center of Cairo for a good prize. They were really caring, not just about me having all the facilities at the hostel, but also guiding me and helping me to find the cool stuff to enjoy my short stay in Egypt. I never had such a good experience on an european hostel. An excellent place to meet other travellers as to make local friends. So thankful to every person I met there, which make my trip much better, specially as a solo traveller without plans! Will be back 100%

Comfortable rooms in the center of Cairo. The staff here are very friendly and down to earth. It may look a bit run down from the outside but it’s good once you’re in. WiFi works great and the noise from the street will not ruin your sleep as you’re on the 5th floor with big curtains over windows with Ac

There are four single beds in the room. The bed is comfortable. The rest room doesn't have liquid handwash only small soaps. The location of the hostel is very good. It is very close to Nasr metro station. Moreover, there are a lot of local restaurants, KFC, McDonald's down the street. However, I will not come back because some guys who work at reception are unprofessional and rude. When I told them that I wanted to extend my stay, every receptionist told me a different price. The short curly hair guy was impatient when I got confused about the price for extension. This also happened to my friend who lived there for a few days. When she told the short curly hair guy and the short guy who wears glasses that she wanted to extend her stay, they kept telling her 250 EGP per night. However, a tall guy who is another receptionist told her 170 pounds per night. The tall guy also told me to pay only 170 pounds per night. In addition, when I checked out, I asked the short curly hair guy if I could leave my suitcase in the corner of the lobby for two hours, He said yes, but it is not his responsibility. I never asked him to keep an eye on my luggage because there are cameras in the lobby. Anyway, I believe that he needs more training. The tall guy and the bearded guy who works from midnight to 9 am are much nicer than others.

Originally we booked in a horrible "hotel" in Giza but had to look elsewhere for the second night. I looked for something with no really bad reviews and found this. No, It is not a 5 star hotel but the staff were awesome, the room clean, the bed comfortable, and it's right in the middle of the action with most attractions in walking distance. Thank the heavens that we found this place, a lifesaver!

Couldn't sleep due to the noise-both from the street as well as the lobby--and cigarette smoke filling my room. I paid extra for breakfast through hostelworld, but my first morning there I asked an employee when and where breakfast was and he seemed confused and said he didn't know if there was breakfast. I told him I had paid for it and he said ok and asked someone to prepare breakfast for me, which she did. After that morning, however, I didn't ask again because the interaction made me incredibly uncomfortable, and it was not offered. The location is fine and its cheap but I wouldn't recommend to anyone who is a light sleeper or sensitive to cigarette smoke. Edit: also, the room I was in, at least, looked nothing like the pictures on here.

Stayed here with my spouse in July and August 2023, private rooms. It's a pretty good place, wonderful and very helpful reception guys, always there to help you. Rooms are clean and have AC and other essentials. Don't fear the old elevator. It's almost the same in every other hostel that you will find in Cairo. It's fun! The location is amazing too. Check out Etoile - it's a bakery nearby. Prices are affordable and quality is fantastic.

We stayed 4 nights at the Australian Hotel and the first thing I have to say is that the breakfast was my favorite. The people who work there are very friendly, professional and speak good English. Located in the downtown. We stayed in two very clean, comfortable rooms with a balcony and good price in the area. Also the reception team can help you if you want to book any tour!

So, location 5 stars, close to the shops, restaurants metro. The staff was very helpful. The building from outside can be off-putting. Also, the lift is an interesting attraction. Our room after the first look looks clean, but when you look around, you can see that the cleaning is superficial. All night, I could hear the doorbell and other noise from the building. The bed was very comfy. Our room was on the 3rd floor with the old bathroom. We stayed for 2 nights, so it was acceptable for the price we paid.

They say the room I reserved is full. They gave me another smelly room. I refused. They say the room you reserved is full. If it is full, I ask how I booked it. Instead of apologizing, they continue their mistakes. Disgrace.

This place is awesome. It's not a bad price. I actually stayed at another hotel when I first got the Cairo and it was more expensive and not as good or as clean and charged extra for breakfast.it would have been good to know about this one the whole time it's a excellent deal for the price and they have a breakfast included it's very clean and the AC works really good and the woman who does breakfast is amazing she actually we'll bring it to your room and that was really helpful because I have young children and I had a really long day before that and was exhausted so it was so helpful and appreciated. The breakfast was yummy. Beans, with bread and jam and eggs, and even veggies and fruit. Some people eat different in the morning but for me personally that was my style. I love plant forward diets. Definitely recommend!

I travel to Cairo quite frequently and I am always looking forward to going back to the Australian hostel. It’s a very cozy place, and an oasis in this noisy city. It’s easy to meet interesting people here, but at the same time you can have your privacy in one of the private rooms. The staff is amazing, very helpful and kind. The rooms and open area’s are clean. Overall it has such a nice vibe! :)

We have been travelling now for almost a year and this was the best hospitality we received from the second we arrived. Khaled greeted us downstairs and provided breakfast even though we were really early to check in! Always had a big smile for us and went above and beyond to help us with a trip south of Egypt late at night after he had finished working. We enjoyed the private day tour he arranged for us at the pyramids and Egyption muse also for a good price. The room was comfy, basic and the brekky was tasty. Everyone at the hostel was super friendly. We will stay here again if we are be back in Cairo for our stopover before flying back. To try the yummy koshari (vegetarian dish consisting of pasta and tomato) nearby I recommend: koshary abou tarek. It's a bit manic but food is served quickly, cheaply, it's clean and they look after you! Thank you Khaled for welcoming us to Egypt and a memorable stay🙏💙

Inside room facilities are very poor. Even the door of the bathroom doesn’t have any latch nor any towel holder inside. Very basic room. Location is nice and right at the centre with everything within reach. The staffs are the best thing of this hostel, they are best in helping out with anything you want.

I stayed here with my friends for 3 nights. The guys at reception was really helpful. The free breakfast was good, the cleaness of the room was okay. And the location was quite good. Even at 2 am there are still places open to buy şoke water and food. For the price I can definitelty reccomend this hostel. You will not regret.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Thank you Hesham and everyone! - Location is great, right in the center of the actions. Train station, restaurants and many attractions are all very close. - The hotel is quiet due to the quality of the building. You can hear the lift operating occasionally but that’s ok compared to the car honking you hear with a different hotel. - The rooms are clean and comfortable with all we need. - The staff at the reception are very helpful, they are flexible, making our stay much easier. We extended more nights as a result.

We stayed 3 times and got 3 different rooms with private bathroom. Location is perfect, you can walk to the museum and around the hostel there is everything you need: juice bar, Koshari place, little shop, café, laundry, mobile internet providers, just everything you might need. The staff speaks good English and will help you with whatever you need. We booked 2 tours through them and were extremely satisfied, especially with the guide that went with us to the pyramids. The communal area is a good and cozy place to meet others!

The rooms are Good, if you’re on the budget. Hotel is located in the center of Cairo, close to most of the interesting places, within walking distance. It doesn’t look much from outside, but inside, the rooms are pretty decent. The front desk people Soph and Hisham were pretty fun to talk to, and operated in a good English. They suggested a Syrian restaurant two doors down, which is a nice place, with sitting area on the second floor.

Poor rooms. Awful bathrooms. Balcony door had no lock and stayed open all the time. The receptionists don't care about the guest needs.

An excellent hostel located in the heart of downtown Cairo within walking distance of several attractions. If you really want to get a feel of the craziness of this city, stay here. My room was clean, wi fi was good, and staff was friendly. Also a huge shoutout to Mohamed for setting me up with two excellent tour guides. I cannot recommend this hostel enough.

Amazing place to stay for a few days in Cairo. We were able to organize our trip to the pyramids through the hostel and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Free breakfast in the morning was also a plus for us while on a budget. Thanks Khaled for a great stay. I will be staying here again on my next trip to Cairo

We booked a four single bed room and were given a three bed (2 singles and a double). When we inquired about this, we were told we would have to rent a second room for a discounted cost on top of already paying for the original room. Other than that, the hostel is acceptable for a few nights stay. Good location with good shops nearby.

Spent 3 weeks here whilst travelling solo from Australia 🇦🇺. Found this place by accident and given that it was called ‘The Australian Hostel’, I just had to give it a go. Really enjoyed it. I stayed in the deluxe room, which had its own bathroom and a balcony. The hostel itself is conveniently located in downtown Cairo, with easy access to food, kiosks, 2 main metro stations (Nasser & Attaba) etc. Was absolutely satisfied with my room. Had an absolute ball going out with so many other tourists I met here as well. Ahmed, Mina, Ramy, Hany and the ‘tourist minister’ Khalid were fantastic hosts with a great sense of humour who were always accomodating. So were the hostel ‘mums’ who really do most of the hard work but don’t get enough praise working behind the scenes. Just reading some of the other reviews, I really encourage people to align their expectations. It’s a hostel, not the Ritz-Carlton. As a foreigner, this hostel is actually much better than most I’ve stayed at. Really recommend this place which you will not regret and now has an endorsement by an actual Australian 😁🇦🇺❤️

Me and my friends (group of 5) stayed in their hostel for 2 nights. They provided us a private room that can accomodate all of us together. The room is clean and spacious. Good Value for Money. Nice location within downtown, near to shops, KFC and telecom. Their reception Hesham is very helpful, he arranged our tours and assist us from the start to finish.
