يعتبر تمثال سعد زغلول بمحطة الرمل من اشهر التماثيل الاثرية بالاسكندرية ويرجع تاريخ انشاءة حين قررت حكومة النحاس باشا فى عام 1930 انها تطلب من الفنان محمود مختار انه ينحت تمثالين لسعد زغلول واحد يتم وضعة بمحافظة الاسكندرية والاخر بمحافظة القاهرة وكان الفنان محمود مختار فى ذلك الوقت بباريس و بالفعل لبى محمود مختار الطلب وجاء من باريس وبدأ يجمع التبرعات مع الحكومة لشراء المواد الاساسية والبرونز المطلوب من اسوان المستخدم في نحت التماثيل ...لكن للاسف حكومة النحاس باشا لم تستمر كثيرا ثم جاءت حكومة اسماعيل صدقي وهى حكومة الملك ، و اراد الملك فاروق تخليد نضال سعد باشا ضد الإنجليز فقام بدعم الفنان محمود مختار حتى تم الانتهاء من نحت التمثال و أقام حفلة ضخمة في الإسكندرية وأزاح الستار عنة بنفسه فى عام 1935، تم وضع التمثال مواجه للبحر الذى يرمز علي الامل وتحطيم اي قيود ممكن كانت تقف امامة وايضا علي جانبى التمثال البحري والقبلي تم نحت سيدتين ..السيدة الاولي في مواجهة البحر والتى ترمز للدلتا والوجه البحري وتأيدهم لسعد زغلول ...والوجه القبلي سيدة من الصعيد تحمل مفتاح الحياة التى ترمز الى الخلود
