This was my first time solo travelling to Calgary, a city I had never been to before and I had one the best experiences at the hostel. Everyone is very kind and helpful. The roommates assigned with me were also very good and the washrooms were clean. The location is amazing as it’s well connected with the city hall train system. Also got a free breakfast in the morning. Highly recommended stay.

Awesome place if you are looking for a reasonable place to spend the night right at downtown. Rooms are not fancy but super clean and comfortable for a hostel. Location is the best part, it's situated within walking distance to the University of Calgary, US Consulate and the City Hall. Rooms are cozy and the linen provided felt fresh. Bathrooms were pretty clean. The staff was very helpful. Includes a free breakfast too with limited options like waffles, bread with condiments, cereals, yogurt and coffee

Extremely polite, friendly and professional staff. Great location. Really clean rooms and ample of common areas to work and just relax. A typical hostel with all amenities like a kitchen, cutlery, fridge etc. The dorm was better than expected as well. Would highly recommend if you're looking to crash somewhere!!

I booked a private room here for one night last week. The room was large and well decorated with a comfy bed, it also had a desk which was incredibly useful for me. The staff were also incredibly friendly and helpful, throughout the day I saw them assisting many guests with their travels. I didn’t really use the facilities, however they were modern and clean throughout. Considering that this was around 50% cheaper than surrounding hotels I’d definitely recommend staying here 😊

Reception, cleanliness, amenities, the full complimentary breakfast, access, etc. etc. Recently I have experienced most of the HI’s in Western Canada, Linda’s Approach to the well being of the Hostel and the guests @ HI Calgary was the best in the Country! Great place to stay passing through or staying for some time.

A wonderful hostel located in the East Village of Calgary, very central, few minutes walk to Calgary public library, Bell Music Studio, the Core Mall, and China Town. Bus stops, tram stations, and public parking are around the corner. The hostel itself is very clean, comfortable and friendly/helpful staff. Whether you’re a solo or a group/couple travelers, I strongly recommend this place for accommodation. A very affordable and safe place to stay!

Clean with a nice kitchen, free food cupboard, fun customer service reps, good crowd, only $17 per night when you buy a membership that lets you stay anywhere in the world for cool prices! Bring a lock for your locker or your stuff might get stolen; mine did!

I stayed in their private room with an ensuite washroom and I will say that overall it was good. The pros: the place was clean; the kitchen, the rooms, I would say that’s super important. The staff are also friendly and accommodating. My room was quite cold and the heater was taking a bit to kick in so they dropped off extra blankets. They’re also happy to provide recommendations for things to do. The cons: the place could use a bit of an update, it felt like I was staying in a university dorm. Also, I felt like the ambience was a bit anti-social. Everyone was kind of to themselves; it would be a good idea to have events organized by the hostel that encourages people to interact with one another. It was quite cold the days I stayed so I’m unsure if that was a contributing factor. Lastly, I think the price for a private room is a bit steep, especially since you can find a private room at a hotel for the same rate. I opted for the hostel for the social aspect but because of my previously mentioned point, I don’t think I really got my money’s worth. Overall this place has a lot of potential :)

I frequently require ear plugs during my hostel stays. But I had forgotten them and I was more than okay without them on my last stay for the May long weekend The little light for my individual bunk was very weak, either in need of new batteries or the unit replaced. I just used my phone's flashlight. They provide large lockers for personal belongings in-room. Staffs are friendly. The place is clean and secure, and conveniently located in Calgary East Village. I rarely have a bad experience here.

This is a great hostel to use if you are visiting Calgary. Something to note is that the bunks don't have privacy curtains and outlets (at least in room 105) are all on one side of the room. The baggage space is very large and all the staff are nice. There's a Super Store nearby if you're looking to purchase food. The only big negative for me personally was the beds squicking with every movement. I love staying at hostels but I was afraid that if I moved at all I would wake a dorm mate.

I was absolutely blown away by the cleanliness throughout the hostel, consistently throughout the day. They had just reopened, and it felt like they were already a well-oiled machine. Welcoming, kind staff.

The hostel was as expected, staff was friendly. Beds were comfortable. There are not many shops or restaurants closeby, so it is a bit of a walk to find anything. The walk in the night seemed a bit shady with some homeless in the fields beside the hostel, but I think that is just because the hostel is located in downtown, so no one to blame, just sharing so other travelers can be cautious.

Another great Hostel experience. Being is was my first time in Calgary this Hostel did not disappoint. Close to alot social clubs and bars and there's a supermarket near by. Plus, public transit like Light right service right next to it. It's all piece of cake. As for the Hostel itself, it was nice, rooms were okay, the staff was really friendly. They were helpful on places on the map to where to go. Definitely recommend this Hostel.

Best place to stay in Calgary, hands down. If you're not a resident of Calgary, and especially if you are on a budget, don't stay anywhere else. Better rates, more amenities and vastly better service than any motel I have ever been to. It is immaculately cleaned every day and each night's stay includes a generous and delicious breakfast in the morning. Update: back again for another night - just wanted to double-down on the accolades - I was starving last night and one of the staff, Tyler (the best staff member?? 🤔) made me a delicious chicken burger. A++

  • 2/5 Jody T. 6 months ago on Google
Whilst the staff communicate well , the area is not the best for safety so I decided not to stay. I paid for 7 days - Obviously I knew I would lose the first night given no 24hrs notice but they wouldn’t give me any refund for the remaining 6 days. Be careful people if you book 7 days. I would suggest to anyone to do 1 day first as again even as a male I felt very unsafe.

Great hostel! I really like the reading room, very relaxing. They have a really good breakfast with eggs, ham, juice, yogurt, cereal, different kinds of bread and waffles!

The service is great and you can't beat it's location. The beds were pretty comfy too except it does tend to creak a lot. I just have a low review because the room was pretty hot. Sometime in the middle of the night, the AC just turned off and everyone in the room started fidgeting, unable to sleep all night. I tried to turn on the fan but it was broken. My main purpose was to get a good nights sleep but unfortunately because of the heat, it kinda ruined my stay (as I'm sure there are a few girls in the room who felt the same). Bring a mini fan and you are golden!

The rooms are overpriced if you like paying $50 a night to spend in a small room with 5 other's hearing them cough and sneeze all night meanwhile almost getting in fistfights with your roommate that doesn't soeak english to open the window and let some fresh air in cause the room stinks. They serve breakfast but I could of gotten a nice motel for the same price by myself believe me the staff is nice enough but it's my first and last time staying there

As a solo young female, first time hostel user, I was very nervous but coming out of this trip, i would definitely recommend. Everyone was friendly, facilities were clean and well managed, and front desk was very helpful and attentive. Breakfast offered was simple but appreciated. Would recommend to anyone!

Clean basic private room, super friendly front desk staff, excellent location to transit, all your needed amenities are within a few blocks (Superstore for forgotten toiletries, liquor store, cafes, restaurants), Wonderland Sculpture (bent wire 12metre high head) is about 800m away and important for me, this hostel was located just 200 metres to the access to all the trails along the Bow River. You can rent a bike, or in my case, the staff allowed me to lock up my own bike in their storage room. Saw stunning autumn scenery along the Bow River and loved loved loved the Calgary trails on my bike. Highly recommend riding them if you're staying at this hostel! The only negative was that my first night in Room 102 was noisy with everyone coming and going with the door slamming outside. I recommend you bring earplugs and if you don't have them, ask the front desk and they will provide a free pair for you. I slept well after that!

The location was unbeatable and I got the lower bunk that I requested. Facilities were great and cleaners were excellent and very consistent. The front desk personal were helpful and friendly. My only qualm was that breakfast was available only between 8 and 9:30 only. Other than that my stay here was superb and I highly recommend this HI Calgary hostel for travelers of all ages. I personally have been hostelling for about 50, yes fifty years!

When I came to Calgary I didn't expect to meet such pleasant staff members and management. The environment is clean, the staff is attentive to each customers needs. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience at Hi Calgary. If you plan on visiting Calgary and want to stay at hostel for a weekend or even a week I would highly recommend it.

I stayed in an ensuite private room with queen bed, private washroom, and private TV about a month ago. The staff were very kind, welcoming, and accommodating. Everything was so clean and I met some pretty cool people while I stayed there. Would come back and recommend 100%!

Very comfy beds, adjustable air conditioning, clean bathrooms, friendly staff :). Not sure if they did this on purpose but I was paired with people of approx my age which I was happy about. Great location, felt safe. Love that there’s a free breakfast, not the best quality but it’s free so

I have been here a few times now. Courteous service, great location. Nice to have access to a kitchen if you like that sort of thing. The lower and upper levels are much nicer than the main level which could use a bit of paint and is starting to show signs of wear. The parking lot could have been maintained better this time around. Otherwise, clean rooms close to all that the downtown has to offer. Easy to catch the train as well.

Neat little hostel in the heart of Calgary. The rooms are clean and the beds were pleasantly comfortable, the walls are thin so you can hear noises outside the room and people walking out on the street can peek in, if the blinds are up. The location is fantastic and they offer on-site parking for a very cheap daily rate. The common area bathrooms and showers are fairly clean and the shower heads have decent water pressure. The common areas are quiet and the wifi speed is pretty solid. The kitchen area was kept organized and accessible and there’s plenty of fridge space to store food. The staff were quite friendly and attentive to requests. Overall, quite a good deal for the price paid and would very likely come back to stay here in the future.

I stayed at HI Hostel Calgary for probably a week and really enjoyed my time here. The staff including the boss we're friendly and helpful at all times. They printed documents, scanned documents and help me with different things as well. The hostel itself is very clean. Showere are with good pressure and hot, and the relax areas are good to meet other travelers. I would definitely stay there again. 5/5*

Perfect space, fast movement, they got this colective kitchen what is perfect to just cook and get food saving money as a traveler/cook. My experience, my work program did made the reservation for me and was not complications. We had great service and access to downtown and transportation to the bus station. The place design also amazing, I remember having good sleep on those beds...this hostel is a reason to get me back to explore those beautiful views in Alberta.

I didn't stay here to make it clear but my boyfriend does and just wanted to give you some warnings when booking. He likes to stay here. He booked online and it double booked. They did not refund or at least give a credit to stay there next time. He was stuck on the bus for what was supposed to be 8 hrs which turned into 18 due to the roads/accidents. He was set to arrive there at 11pm but didn't show until 7 am the next morning where he found out he was charged 50 dollars(no show) and 2 rooms(only booked 1). They we're nice and refunded the 50 bucks but would not refund the double booking or give credit for his stay next time as he is there weekly..he likes it there. He also still had to leave at the 11 am check out time. So he got 3 hours rest for twice the price and was so tired after the terrible bus ride he didn't eat breaky. Be aware. Merry Xmas.

The perfect example of a good hostel, friendly and helpful staff, very clean rooms, bathrooms and other ambients. Breakfast is excellent, delicious and very nutritious. The hostel has a study room, with books and a perfect place to study, read or just relax. The kitchen is also very nice, has a big space and a good view of the city. The best thing about staying there was the very attentive staff.

  • 5/5 Bean M. 4 years ago on Google
Friendly stuff to helps with any question that you have. During mm y time I stay there you can meet a lot of new persons from all over the world. The next train station is a 5 minutes walk away. I am very happy with this hostel because for this service (free wifi, breakfast etc.) is it cheapest once in Calgary.

Great place in a very accessible location! Winter is there slow season, so availability was excellent. the water in the shower what hot and the blankets comfortable. Staff were nice.

A good clean hostel, well located. The be were super comfy and I loved the lockers which are big enough to store a suitcase. Breakfast is included and there's plenty of variety, which I really appreciated. The communal areas were clean and the staff friendly. I didn't want to walk to the hostel while it was dark and as a solo female traveller, I would recommend avoiding the walk if dark to others. Overall, a great place to stay!

  • 5/5 Molly T. 5 years ago on Google
The hostel was clean and well-run. All the staff were helpful and friendly. I really loved the convenient location. It was just down the street from the downtown city hall tram station, so I was able to easily get everywhere I needed to. The hostel had a great amount of room. Was not cramped. It also felt secure. I would absolutely recommend it.

Clean room, facilities and common area. It's a hostel at its best. I slept in a dormitory. Bed was comfy and room the locket was good. Breakfast is very good. Gets you ready for the day. It's near the river walk which has good few restaurants.

  • 5/5 Terry B. 1 year ago on Google
Possibly the best hostel I've ever stayed in. It's certainly the cleanest (Honestly, I don't know how they do it. Every single time I walk into the men's washroom it seems as if it was just cleaned top to bottom with a fresh bath mat by the shower stall). The staff are wonderful: friendly and super helpful. The common areas are nice too.

Modern decor. Decent breakfast for veing free. Comfy bed. Only con. I'm wide at the hips... the top bunk bed was a challenge getting up and down. But who's to blame? 😁

This is the first time I am staying in a hostel . I was skeptical but it was a pleasant surprise . The staff were very helpful and even helped me in planning my trip to look in Calgary. The rooms were clean and good . It was quiet at night. The rooms were very clean.. they have a locker to store our things . And it is a great location in the city. Definitely will try one more time

Stayed here when I first moved to Calgary. Staff were very friendly, bed was comfy. Everything you need, laundry, central location with grocery store 2 minutes away, breakfast, everything. The bus to Banff stops right outside which works really well. Breakfast was great but I wish it started a little earlier, like 7:00 am.

  • 2/5 BIG2NEAT 1 year ago on Google
Everything was good. Couple hiccups here and there (stayed here for a month)... the Manager Jason is very intrusive, really surprised he didn’t ask me for my social insurance number (I think he gets a kick from making people feel uncomfortable, I feel sorry for his next victim) the other staff were really nice otherwise. (There was also one incident when one staff member just barged in the room without knocking). (Charging your electronic devices was also a hassle as there’s only plugs to charge your stuff on ONE side of the room, making super inconvenient yet dreadful to charge your phone or anything else)
