Questionable procedures to increase revenues, run down property and furniture. Unfortunately, no check-in at 2pm possible, no attempts to check with housekeeping if rooms would be ready. I was staying in a shared room and was told by other travellers the room was "cleaned" and already prepared at 2pm. The room itself had a bad smell. The bathroom was not separated by a door from the shared bedroom. The shower had a typical slightly transparent shower door and the toilet had a louvre door which did not block any sound or smell coming out the toilet. Only the shower had a window, the toilet had no window. No problem, use the public bathrooms as in many hostels? The public bathrooms at the pool area were closed for the entire stay. Only in the main building, across the parking lot were 3 unisex public toilets. To little for such a large property with many travelers. The WiFi in the room constantly stopped working which was super annoying. I went down to the pool area as the WiFi in the room was not working and took my water and carrots cake with me. The WiFi was ok but unfortunately, I got told by the staff it was not permitted to consume any food or drinks from outside at the pool/restaurant/bar area. This is the area right in front of your room, so you can not eat and drink in front of your own room. Ofc only if you order it from the restaurant, they don't offer carrots cake and the beer of your choice will probably be sold out. Solution to consume outside food, go to the communal kitchen in the main area, there is a terrace to enjoy you own food. The seating area of the terrace was at that time of the day in the complete sun. Most chair were damaged. In the evening I decided to get something from the bar. 3 kinds of common beers from the menu were unavailable. I got recommended a beer which was not listed on the menu. The beer tasted good but was 50% more expensive than any of the 3 beers I originally tried to order. The property itself leaves a run-down impression. Pool tiles were missing, floor boards at the entrance to the restaurant/pool area are damaged or missing, chairs in the communal area are damaged, etc... Overall I had the feeling this properly is being used to squeeze the last money out of its travels without the willingness to invest any money back for renovations. I stayed at Selina Playa del Carmen which was the complete opposite with great experiences and vibes. If not for the location right next to the ADO bus station, I would recommend to stay at another property in Cancún.

You can tell this place was once quite nice to stay in, but it has really fallen into disrepair. Broken windows, cracks appearing throughout, not a single mug for coffee or tea in the kitchen. The price to stay here is almost double what you pay at similar properties - we went for it because the photos were so nice. They were clearly taken a long time ago. Now you just pay more and get nothing for it. Would not recommend.

I’ll give this Selina a 2. I was assigned in Room 2002 which is beside the restaurant and bar. It was noisy all night! In addition to that the toilet was defective. Shower head’s defective. No hot water. No lock. No privacy.

I spent several days at the hotel. The cinema room is a wonderful thing, you can watch any shows and films on the big screen of the TV, there is a very pleasant atmosphere. Overall a good hotel, nice staff, especially some of them. I really liked it when classical music was playing, for a hotel this is the best option. Yes, there are details that need to be controlled and improved, add shelves in the showers to put things on them. Replace watering cans in showers, check if there are blockages in showers from women's hair. Dust on large chandeliers. refrigerator. install solar panels on the roof. but these are small details.

Close to the ADO bus station. That’s it. The shared room I stayed in (2102) was REALLY old and worn. The toilet door was interesting. Guess the pool is a plus, but it’s all in pretty bad shape. I wanted cheap, but did it match the price tag? I don’t think so. The positive reviews don’t seem legit. At least I didn’t see what they claim to have seen.

Unfortunately our stay at Selina Cancun Downtown was a bad experience. We were three girls and booked a Family room. It was located in the backyard building close to the pool. The room was rather old and in no good shape. The water pressure was bad and we only had cold water. We complained about this twice but nobody took a note so nothing was done and we could not be refunded. At the pool there is loud music playing from 7 am until 3 am and it was very loud in our room. When we left we found out that at the reception they have free ear buds. The food was good although it always took a long time to be served. I would not recommend going there if you don’t plan on partying 24/7. This Selina had nothing to do with the comfort and quality of Selina Lissabon where I stayed in April this year.

I must express my disappointment with my recent stay at this Selina. It pains me to say that it has been the worst Selina experience I've encountered. The staff, unfortunately, did not make us feel welcome at all. Instead of a warm introduction, we were simply handed the keys and left to find our own way around the hostel, discovering our room and amenities without guidance. Regrettably, the lack of friendliness from the staff further marred the experience. Simple gestures of hospitality and assistance were notably absent, contributing to an overall unwelcoming atmosphere. Additionally, a significant concern was the hostel's backdoor, seemingly unobserved, allowing anyone to enter and exit freely. This raised serious security issues and left me feeling uneasy about the overall safety of the premises. Furthermore, the room presented its own set of challenges. Having no window facing the outside, only towards the inside of the hostel, created a rather claustrophobic atmosphere. Coupled with a surprisingly small bed, the overall comfort level was far below expectations. I share these concerns with the hope that improvements can be made for the benefit of future guests. I believe every stay should be characterized by a sense of warmth and security, and unfortunately, my experience fell short of these expectations.

Great location if you plan to stay for a night or two in Cancun! It couldn't be closer to the ADO bus station. Staff is super friendly and very helpful. The Pool area is perfect for a chill start of the morning. Rooms are spacious and clean. No weird smell, in contrary to some other reviews here. One thing that you have to note, however, if you decide to stay: If you stay on the weekend and your room is near the pool it will get loud in the evening. There is music and party noises. We thought it's gonna be a problem but in the end were so tired after traveling and sightseeing that we fell asleep immediately. If you are a person who can only fall asleep in total silence - this place is not for you. 4 stars instead of 5 because I think the music/pool situation should be made clear beforehand.

Don’t stay here if you want to sleep. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is incredibly loud music from the courtyard bar until very late at night (as I write this it’s midnight and we have just been given earplugs by the reception that do nothing…). Looks like from other reviews they want to pretend it’s an isolated problem they are trying to fix but it’s obviously not. We chose this to be convenient for the bus station but we’d have got a better night’s sleep in the terminal itself. Oh and we were also informed only after we checked in that the water in the hotel rooms was broken.

Unbearable music until past 1am. Asked both the restaurant and hotel to turn the volume down and was promised it would, but that never happened. Impossible to sleep for an early flight the following morning even with earplugs. My room was as loud as a dubstep concert until sunrise. The worst part? There was 0 people listening to the music or dancing in the restaurant, so the volume was completely unnecessary.

We have stayed at this location for over 20 years. The location is perfect for us, being a short walk to and from the ADO bus station. However, after the conversion to the hostel, the rooms are overpriced and the service at the bar/restaurant is poor. Sad to say we won't be returning.

I stayed here since it was next to the bus station so it was easy to get to the airport for my early morning flight. But the rooms are next to the outdoor bar and they have super loud music blaring late into the night I couldn’t sleep!! The DJ was playing for like 5 people. I complained and they gave me ear buds which did nothing. I don’t understand why the music had to be that loud. Pool was nice and great for a party hostel but not great if you actually want to sleep.

There was a problem with the room I booked. They offered an alternative or a refund. I checked out the room and said it was ok. But the music was way too loud in my room. 2 hours after I checked in (didn’t use the room) I decided it wasn’t for me and they STILL honored the refund. Who does that! Now that is customer service. As a frequent global Selina customer I must say they are top notch. If you want to party and meet friends, it’s your place. The tulum hotel zone one can’t be beat. I thought because downtown Cancun work space it would be more chill, not really. I don’t know if I will stay at that location again but definitely stay at Selina again. They run a solid business and see they are now publicly traded, I know where I am putting my money. Thanks Selina, you earned my trust - much love!

For the price, this was not a good place. $80 night for a private room that didnt have any hot water, and that shower was clogged so the water was standing which was disgusting. Toilet also didnt work well. When we advised the reception of that, they basically shrugged and didnt care. The music was very loud, which I could understand if there was actually a bunch of people, but there wasnt. Would not recommend.

We stayed at Selina for one night before our flight left and it was good for a short amount of time. We got a private room (and bathroom) which was small but did the trick. There was shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap (in a bottle) provided but no body soap which would've been appreciated. If I had wanted/needed to stay in a shared/hostel style room, I think I would've been comfortable there. The bed was hard and not particularly comfortable, but I still slept okay. I saw lots of reviews about noise and I can see how that would be the case, but our room was fine. It was in good walking distance to restaurants and food trucks which we enjoyed. I noticed they had a "suspended" sign in the lobby which I was told was a fine from smoking in the building. Some of the pictures look much better than the room we had.

Stayed at Selina downtown Cancun Hostel at one of the shared dorms, it was a great experience and I felt super safe and accommodated. This hostel has great service, everyone is friendly and willing to help. The many amenities are great, shared kitchen with refrigerator for left overs or cooking. Pool. Library. AC in clean shared hostel rooms and lots of bathrooms and showers. The atmosphere is vibrant with lots of Mexican modern art on the walls. Highly recommend!

So I missed my flight and had my phone stolen and when I finally arrived, two days later, Selina cancelled my booking for no show and kept the money for the rest of the booking, total 7 nights. Wow. And no help offered apart from buy another booking. I guess stealing is the new business style. Well done.

Selina was the perfect room & on a budget for us as a couple. We got the room on a top floor overlooking the pool which was really beautiful. Don’t think because it’s cheap that their service or amenities fail. We only stayed 1 night but hope to come back again soon. The only drawback is if you’re looking to sleep before midnight on a weekend this is probably not the place for you - but if you’re tired enough like me it doesn’t matter :) can’t wait to come back!

How does this place even get stars? Most horrible place we’ve ever booked. Incredibly loud since the party area is right in front of the rooms. We stayed in a dorm, guys it doesn’t even look close as the pictures. In my bed there were used tissues. The accommodation was just. Horrible. We didn’t stay the night. We checked out 10 mins later. The staff was incredibly rude as we told them what the problem was. They don’t care at all, well, be advised to book anywhere else! Very different to Selinas in other areas.

So because my flight got cancelled and i arrived one day later than booked, i ask them kindly if it’s possible to reschedule my one night stay too cause i still wanted to stay at that hostel. No response, Nobody ever texted me back from their email but of course the charged me the money. Great customer service! Thanks for nothing!

Great location as others have said. Reasonably priced, and reliable selina-esqe amenities. Staff were friendly. Upstairs showers pretty grim and bad water pressure. Very middle of the road for a Selina. Wouldn’t have left this revjew if not for the very bad wifi, especially by Selina standards. Internet went down for approx 45 mins which for a digital nomad hostel is not acceptable. The power was out for 10 minutes of this which is understandable, but then it took about 35/40 mins to reboot the wifi. Reception said they could do nothing about it, and couldn’t manually reset the wifi box

I’ve used SELINa hotels in the past and have always had great experiences. So of course, it was a no brainer to book a SELINa hotel for our baby moon. We had stayed in Tulum, but came to Cancun for our last night. This has to be the worst SELINA ever. The entire place looks very ran down, like a super cheap motel. We got “upgraded” to a suite, which was right across from the pool. While I was excited at first, It ended up being a nightmare to sleep. We got home around 10 and music was blasting through the walls of our hotel until 5am. My husband knows I’m a very light sleeper and he’s a very deep sleeper, but both of us struggled to catch a wink of sleep. We turned on sleeping music on our TV and even tried headphones, but nothing helped. Not a good experience to end our baby moon. We’re truly disappointed since this was supposed to be a special time for us both and our last night in Mexico. I highly doubt I’ll ever use SELINa again, even though I’ve raved about it in the past to friends and coworkers. Better to book an Airbnb and pay the same for a better experience and actually catch some sleep 😊

Don’t stay here, they play really loud music until the early house. We asked them to turn it down but they refused despite the fact there was nobody at the pool enjoying it. The room was also pretty dirty with hair around the sink

  • 3/5 Jacob C. 2 years ago on Google
a lot of great things about this place: nice vibe excellent front-desk staff included breakfast is ok. they have better breakfast if you pay 🙃 hot water works fine but takes a few minutes to warm up but air-conditioning in the room was not very good... it does not remove humidity from the air. Right now it's set at 26C and it's 25C outside so maybe because it only turns on intermittently--maybe if the AC was set at 24C or dry mode then it would work correctly; but I also get the distinct impression that the air conditioner could use a good cleaning because it smells kinda musty. I did not sleep very well because of this

  • 1/5 Eva D. 4 months ago on Google
Worst hostel, it has not been renovated for long and the room was smelling humidity and sewer. Also, there is loud music until late in the night, impossible to sleep. We paid more than expected when booked. Would definitely not recommend.

Essentially a night club with bedrooms attached. Music is BLARING until 3am every weekend night. The walls of the bedrooms literally shake with the bass. Arrived at 10pm and had to wait an hour to check in which was incredibly annoying. Front desk is very slow. No outlet near my bed so I couldnt charge my devices. Location is prime, but if you want to sleep, don't get a room here.

  • 4/5 Alex A. 1 year ago on Google
Nice place to chill for a night or two. Big pool. Dorms were clean and quiet, so we’re the private rooms. Common toilets and showers were very dirty though - broken toilets, no toilet paper and covered in flies. Pool area and bar was lovely though and great location

BEST HOSTEL EVER. I had a really bad time at the airport and I am disabled, so as a courtesy they upgraded me to a room for no extra charge. I am a frequent traveler to cancun and you have officially earned my business every time I come. Thank. You. For. Caring. About. The. Disabled. BTW I have seen some bad posts here about the room... it's Mexico. It's a hostel. It's not going to look like the four seasons hotel. It's just fine.

  • 3/5 Michelle M. 1 year ago on Google
A perfume was stolen from my bag. I left it in a place that was according to the receptionist safe but anyone had access to it. The room was fine but the toilets are 80% of the time very dirty. I also didn’t like that they charge you extra for the Cowork Area. The girl from the Grab & Go was super nice, as well as two or three bartenders but other than that everyone had a very lousy attitude, including the receptionists. The decoration of the Hostel is nice but the service is not.

  • 2/5 Jenna F. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely way too expensive for what you get. Perhaps worth it if you are staying in a dorm room, but not for those wanting a private room. The photos are nicer than in real life, and many rooms - like ours - are on a busy, loud, traffic-laden road. You can hear the noise from the traffic quite clearly, even late at night. Not worth it. Breakfast was also disappointing - low quality.

  • 1/5 Oscar K. 1 year ago on Google
What they don't tell you about this place is that some of the rooms are located in a building next to an outdoor bar and they play music at a crazy volume until late in the night. My room was actually shaking with sound. It pains me to give a 1 star review but I recommend that you do NOT stay here unless you intend to party until 2am every night. To add insult to injury, my shower had only cold water.

This is the best Hostel in Cancun. I always stayed in different ones when I am in Cancun but this time, because I needed to take the bus early morning, I stayed there. And it’s my new home in Cancun. The staff it’s awesome. The guests really nice. The place it’s beautiful with room that is not common in a Hostel as the workout area. I loved it. Don’t hesitate and stay there

  • 3/5 Felix 1 year ago on Google
Just stayed there for a night before flying home. We had the micro, didn't know what to expect but really just was a bed and one more square Meter to open the door. The window was to the insight, the curtain didn't Block any light which was on all night. As well as very loud discussion in the lobby which didn't allow any sleep. Also, no possibility to open a window for fresh air as it was super easy then to get into the room from outside. Also we asked the Reception people for some advice but it seemed that they didn't were interested in talking with us.

Cute hotel with English and Spanish speaking staff. There was some live music by the pool the night we were there, and the overall facilities were colorful and well kept. I would stay here again, for longer next time!

Very nice hostel. The food at the poolbar is very good. We had a great time there. There are more social hostels but the food and the staff made our stay very pleasant. Location is very good also. Enjoy!

I've stayed in 3 other Selina locations before, and this one was subpar. I booked a standard single room, which was extremely tiny and very damp/humid despite using the AC unit. My fresh clothes were damp when I put them on! The window was basically useless as it opened onto the hallway and not to outside, so I had to keep the curtain closed all the time for privacy. Noise levels were very loud and I slept with earplugs every night, as I could hear conversations in the mezzanine below like they were in the room with me. Two days in a row there were children yelling at 5:30am, and the reception staff did not ask them to be quiet despite the "quiet hours" signs everywhere. There is only one shower for all the basic rooms on that floor, and it was moldy. All that said, the location and common facilities are good. The hostel is right next to the ADO station for easy access to buses going everywhere, and the hostel has a nice pool areas and common spaces. I would not book this again as I don't think it's worth the price, I would recommend other travelers book the Selina in the Hotel Zone instead.

I stayed for 2 nights in the Suite +. It was great! Really beautiful room with all the works (coffee machine, private bathroom, AC, TV w/ access to streaming services). Hostel/hotel is located walking distance to great restaurants, and there is a cafe on site (loved the coffee & croissant sandwiches). My friends and I enjoyed hanging by the pool and getting drinks at the poolside bar. I would definitely come here again!

Firstly, half the rooms in this hostel are actually located in a bar so don’t expect to get any sleep. When we checked in, the reception staff took our passports and did not return them to us, which is not standard, considering I checked in using their app check in service. I did not question at the time because we arrived very late and were very tired, I just wanted to sleep. We were also checking out early, and after no sleep (because they put us in the room in the bar) I forgot to ask for our passports back. We realised we had not got them back when we arrived in our next destination. I frantically contacted the hostel realised the mistake and they were extremely unhelpful, unresponsive and rude. We were told they could not help us in any way to get our passports back to us, saying we had to come back to Cancun to collect them. Luckily our hotel in Tulum was able to organise someone to collect them from Selina and get them to us. Thanks for NOTHING Selina Cancun downtown. I have never experienced such poor service and it was the worst stay at a hostel I have ever experienced. It a real shame because I have stayed at multiple other Selina hostels and they have been great.

Ana Laura sat down with me on the lobby to ask me for my experiance at the hotel. I explain to her, last night I was bitten by bite miceI couldn’t sleep and ace was low causing my room to be uncomfortable. She was so helpful and got the room ace to be working sent someone to ask us in the room to be sure it was working and the mites turn out to be insect bites due to the porch window being open. My stay turn out to be a very good day experience. Great location and very nice hotel.
