Update taken over by greene king Very nice in there some top beers available and done out lovely.. 100yds from Carlisle train station have a beer have a brew or meal in very nice surroundings before going on with the rest of your day.. Impressed, they even have all the sport on various tvs around the place what's not to like. 🤷🤷

Very nice décor in The Griffin. The Classic Cheeseburger was great! Lovely staff. The space inside the loo cubicle was a bit on the neat side but overall, spotless😀

We went in at lunchtime for a pint and thought how nice it was and the guy behind the bar was super friendly, so decided to go back in the evening for food. 2 different guys working, young lad didn't have a clue and although we repeated ourselves several times when ordering the food, it came out wrong!! Spoke to the senior guy but he was not interested in putting things right. We would have stayed for drinks but decided to leave. Really disappointed even though the food was good but it wasn't what we ordered!!

The Griffin has recently been refurbished and looked wonderful both inside and out. Being a Saturday night, the music was quite loud, so it was not ideal for conversation on this occasion. The staff were helpful. There was a good range of Gins (and other spirits) available, along with a reasonable choice of mixers. Very generous with the ice, so I made a request for less, which was actioned. As the night progressed, the patrons left more mess that was not cleared, detracting from the new image. This was disappointing. The big letdown was, unfortunately, the toilets, which, although beautiful in decoration and ample in number, were littered and with only one cubicle having any toilet paper. There's an accessible toilet in the step free downstairs of the premises. You do, however, need to request the key from staff at the bar, so if it's busy, you may need to plan for this a little more than normal. I notice they plan to screen the Rugby Autumn Internationals, so I will try a return visit to see if there's any improvement with the facilities. I finally managed to make my return visit (September 2023) for a colleagues farewell. It was difficult to converse due to the volume of the background music. This also made ordering at the bar tricky. The toilets are poorly maintained, and make sure that the toilet roll holders are actually dispensing. There were two identical menus on the table, but on closer inspection, the prices were different! The choice of mixers didn't match what was stocked, so it's easier to ignore the drinks menu and scout out the bar. The food was good and my calamari was superbly cooked. We ordered food at the bar and drinks on the Green King app. You will be enticed to use the app by the promise of a voucher for a free drink. However, it took 5 days for my voucher to arrive by email, and the alcohol free options on the offer were not available for our designated driver. The tables are still not cleared. When drinks were delivered to the table by staff, no empties were taken away. We resorted to moving the trays of empties to another table.

This newly refurbished venue is extremely smart. The rest rooms were also stylish and clean. It is close to the train station and clearly popular with passengers. Our food was served promptly. Our meals were hot and tasty. We had the Hunters chicken and lasagne. To be picky the Eton Mess sundae could be improved by having less redcurrants and more strawberries and raspberries.

A very handy place to have something to eat and drink as it perfectly located next to the railway station and in the heart of the city centre. Love bagging a window seat especially near the fire and just people watching while supping my ale. Always find the staff chatty and enjoy some great banter whenever I pop in for a visit and it has a good mixture of locals and tourists making for a lively atmosphere at busy times.

I regularly stop off in the Griffin when travelling back to the Scottish Borders and it is always a great place to hang out. Really nice food, the staff are great and I always enjoy having a pint here, when doing some work on my laptop.

This was one of the busiest days, but the staff were excellent. They've been let down by staff and management but still pulled it out the bag and made us feel special. Massive shout out to Violet, she was fantastic! Needs a promotion! All staff working there arses off! Well done

Nice pub near the station, enjoyed a pint and ate tea there while waiting for a train. Food was really nice and arrived really quickly. Main downside is that despite serving food and showing sport (and all patrons either watching TV or chatting to friends) they are playing nightclub music to an almost empty pub at full volume. Strange choice lol.

Would not recommend to anyone. The food was average which wasn’t the problem . The problem was the customer service was absolutely rude and disgusting by the two female staff behind the bar . I’m guessing it was the manager but she was swearing in front of customers , complaining about having a bad day and overall rude personality. When I asked for a cup of tea she rudely shouted “ We are not serving hot drinks because it’s busy “ and then proceeded to rudely shake her head looking disgusted . If I had to give a positive I’d be struggling to find one .

Good decor and decent food...but can't be arsed dealing with the moody middle-aged women with glasses on who works the bar(think she's the manageress)Just flat out rude for no reason. I'd understand if I were drunk or being boligerant...but ive always been sober and polite when arriving. This has happened frequently over the past few months when i go.I've been going here for a few years as its convenient for a pint after work or breakfast in the morning. But won't bother anymore.Rather go across the road to Bar Solo-much friendlier and polite staff.

Popped in here for a drink and bite to eat. Friendly bar staff and waitressing service. Nice pub food, reasonably priced. Lovely clean interior.

Comfortable & great for drinks but food let it down. Food was overcooked but was cold so had been lying in the kitchen for a while before being brought out. When we were asked how our food was, we were honest but the bar tender who cleared our plates wasn’t bothered. Visually it was noticeable the god was overbooked & yet the chef still let the players go out. I would go back for drinks but not for food.

Take the replace the whole chips of the option with salad off the menu. It's gets mixed up with a side salad. Was looking forward to fish and chips and got fish and salad. Fish was horrible and curry like paste. Staff disgusted we ordered drinks and a 5 meals. Hour and 10 min wait for sub par food. Will not return go to weather spoons next door.

We were in Cumbria for new year and decided to beat the weather and visit Carlisle via the train from Settle. We arrived at lunchtime with our dog and googled for a dog friendly pub. We found this place near to the station. They were a bit short staffed and said food would be 90 minutes. We decide to stay in the warm and have a few drinks while we waited. It turned out only to be a 45 minute wait and when the food arrived it was very nice. The staff were very helpful and friendly. All in all a nice experience and we will certainly go back.

Excellent service and very helpful friendly staff. We only had drinks but saw the food that was served to other customers at our table, and the quality looked great, and it was commented to be very good, too. If you are in Carlisle, please try this place. There is a very big choice of draught drinks and spirits as well as cocktails. Can't be beaten, IMO.

It's a lovely city centre pub that serves some decent food. Can get lively at times due to its location and the live football on TV. However, it's a perfect place to go if you fancy a bite to eat throughout the day or fancy a couple of drinks in the evening. It's located right next to carlisle train station.

Really a brilliant pub. Had a lovely time eatin after going to the cinema, and is really close to the train station making it a go to place while waiting about for the train. Only complaint is the carrot cake served had unexpected walnuts in it so I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wish I could.

Just had a refresh, looks ok, but service is terrible, Not sure why, 3 front of house staff on duty but mostly only 1 of them serving? They're having issues with Guinness, it looks awful, no head, apparently due gas pressure issue. It tastes fine but it don't look fine!

The pub has recently been renovated and is very well done. Delicious food and drinks and a perfect stop between Manchester and Edinburgh. Jean, Cathy and Sean were wonderful.

A very handy pub for a pint before catching a train. A Greene King bar with a good selection of draught beers. Good food menu and the covid hygiene precautions were all in place.

I just been there for a meal while waiting for my next train. Before I put my order through I asked how long would it take. I was told 20 to 30 minutes. I had 1:10 minutes so I ordered a steak and a top up of squid. They charged me for a squid starter instead and I had to ask for a refund. I was told just put it on top of the steak. The price difference though was £4 more. I still wanted my refund. I got it but they were both very unhappy, then I sat and waited. And paid for it in the end... 40 minutes later no food I asked the lady on the bar to check on my food because I hada train to catch in half an hour. 10 minutes later no answer and no food. So I decided to ask for a refund . She answered oh I will check on your food. I said I don't have time to o eat anymore. She I will get the manager. Another 10 minutes. I said I have to go as she came to serve food to another customer who arrived much later than me . She says the manager is coming and disappeared. I gave up and left without food or my refund . I know I will not be entering through to hose door again. Customer service are the we worst I have experience anywhere in a long time. From staff to management.
