never been on a bank holiday before.. ..probably will never go again after yesterday's experience....£4 extra for the same standard meal get normally through the week.. and limited menu...surely trained chefs can cope with a wrap or sandwiches...???

What a joke and a waste of money To start with there was very little food at the serving area, and what was there was the dregs of bacon, beans mushroom you get the point I had to ask a member of floor staff for bread and if they could turn the music down that was playing full blast in the kitchen yes in the kitchen it was louder then the restaurant music and sounded like a rave. When the staff brought fresh food out you could tell it had been rushed and barely cooked I would’ve liked to have seen the record of the temperature that was took of the bacon is cooked in the sausages are cooked that look like they’re still raw, The mushrooms were still raw and just a flash in a pan. The floor staff didn’t really know what they were doing. The kitchen staff were totally clueless about what was going on at front of house. Very disappointed and won’t be going back,Waste of money

It was busier than expected for a weekday. My dining companions opted for the traditional carvery experience and came back with stuffed plates. My dietary requirements meant I opted for the salad and I wasn’t disappointed. All our requests were fulfilled speedily by our friendly server who had the most incredible two tone hair. Would return again.

Haven't been to TOBY CAVERY for about 8 years. So it was good to have a cold drink and sit outside until my colleague arrived. The staff were very friendly and professional. The choice of meat was good, but I had the Turkey and the vegetables where really tasty. I was happy with the price and will be coming back again. Mike and Kieran were helpful. Keep up the good work.

Nice quiet area off the road, free parking for the time you're there and a mid week deal, which was great value for money! We don't often have carvery but after visiting, we definitely will. We stopped here on our way back home for lunch and the warmth of the atmosphere was amazing. The service was lovely, the lady would check in at different points and was very polite. The environment was cosy and the food was delicious and homey. I'd never seen a Yorkshire pudding that big and I tried lots of the options on offer which were all yummy, including the pork and that amazing gravy. They were very accomodating for my brother who's quite picky and the lady who was carving made great conversation with us. The desserts were amazing as well. The jam sponge with custard really hit the spot. I also liked that the desserts were seasonal. The whole family enjoyed the day out. Thank you for a great experience!

Popped in as passing by. Staff very friendly and helpful and the carvery was delicious with a great selection of vegetables and HUGE Yorkshire puddings! We also enjoyed the crumble and custard although we were too full to finish. Would definitely come back here

Good parking. Nice and quick reception. Ambiance good (warm, clean). Drinks order taken and delivered quickly. Refillable soft drink not explained. 2 of us, both had carvery. Meat selection excellent. Vegetables ok, a bit jaded as if they had been sitting around for hours. Yorkshire puddings very impressive! Roast potatoes tough, sprouts undercooked. Gravy and other sauces excellent. Toilets up stairs, not good. Staff very helpful.

My food was lovely as I got a carvery, my husband and son were disappointed they ordered of the menu. My request for a quiet table was ignored even though it was half empty. I had two disabled children with me. My daughter screamed as too many people too close to us nearly all way through our time there. They sat us in a section where there were tables for large party’s and even though it was half empty they sat people in the tables right next to us even with my daughter screaming. People looking and starring because of this so made it really uncomfortable for us.. The service was no existent as they were short staffed. Went to change my disabled daughter and the changing facility’s for disabled is very poor so I ended up having to put my daughter in the car on a puppy pad unable to change her at your establishment and drive till I found somewhere that could accommodate me being able to change her nappy. Was very disappointed over all. I wouldn’t recommend for anyone with disabilities. I think places like this need to realise that disabled people come in more shapes then just a wheelchair and you only cater for wheelchair disabled not any other disability which is a shame.

Provided exactly what we needed in the Middle of a drive. Excellent price for the quantity of food and quick and efficient service specifically from Adam who made the experience. Super dog friendly site which was appreciated would recommend to anyone looking for a filling and varied hot meal.

Very disappointing for a Toby Carvery. Whilst the staff were polite and friendly the place was dirty throughout, the carpets had a bad odour and the toilets weren't very clean (went in Tesco instead). The meat/poultry was OK but the Yorkshire Puddings and roast potatoes were rock solid and the veg was over cooked. The garden furniture was in poor order. We visited twice in a row several years ago and everything was just fine, I think the place needs closing down for a month for it to have a deep clean and refresh inside an out.

Beef tough end of joint turkey and fresh lamb joint good. Side dishes plenty and hot. Service mark as we had to sort ourselves out in bar . Staff friendly Yes it was Sunday But we enjoyed it.

It was a brilliant customer service by all staff involved, Although would like to suggest to have an option for lighter dinner as well if needed. It’s delicious meats and buffet. Many thanks to manager whom organised it for us.

Went for Christmas dinner. Thank you to all the staff who sacrificed time at home with their own families on Christmas to work and make sure all their customers could enjoy their Christmas. You did a great job. I’m sorry I didn’t get our servers name, a young lad working near the exit door to the left of the bar, you were fantastic and did a superb job, thank you!

I don't think it would have been possible to carve the meat any thinner. In fact the piece of gammon was the size of a playing card. The vegetables were nice but could have used the Yorkshire pudding as a hammer. Staff were busy with each other so getting their attention was difficult. The toilets were in need of an environmental clean. It was clear woodwork and floors in toilet were very neglected. My friend and I wanted to split the bill. You'd have thought we had asked the server to pay and give us an internal organ for good measure. The place wasn't even over busy so would have expected better customer service. I'd only recommend if people were desperate for something to eat.

Food was okay, but couldn't get service for drinks/deserts after asking twice. Left after 25 minutes of waiting with staff unable to serve those not in their designated seating area and our designated waitress nowhere to be seen. Would encourage staff to improve communication between themselves to ensure customers aren't left waiting.

Long wait to be seated. Not enough staff one girl doing bar showed us to table and brought our drinks to table while 2 staff that we did see were clearing away and taking orders. I chose beef I got a few small pieces I wouldn't say there was even 2 slices and the potato and leek gratin and Yorkshire puddings were very greasy. We left most of the meal.

Sorry to say this place seems to be understaffed. The food was OK but only warm, the serving area was quiet messy the table was dirty. My friend used the toilets while there, one was out of order the other the loo seat was off and the other was quiet dirty. Will not be going back. On the plus side the few staff who where there where pleasant

We had a lovely friend's gathering here to celebrate a couple getting married in Gretna Green the next day! All the staff were just amazing! Super helpful and friendly and happy! The place was packed but ran so efficiently. There was no waiting. Lovely decor, clean and well equipped toilets But most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious 😋 Great outdoor seating area for summer evenings. 💯 recommend this place!

We were a party of 7, half of the party were welcomed and greeted by a very lovely young man from behind the bar, but the others were left at the front door for quite a while and eventually found the other half of the party in the seated area. Our drinks order again was taken by the very lovely young man who was chatty, polite and got our order done quickly. 6 of us ate from the carvery but one ordered off the menu, it took a good 5-10 minutes and one of the party stood up to go and order the meal from the menu. The food was really delicious. The lady behind the carvery meat did not look like she wanted to be there at all! It then took another 20 minutes after we’d eaten for plates to be taken and deserts ordered- but again we had to ask someone if we could order. Over all the food is well worth going back for and the young man was very good- it’s a shame the other staff weren’t as welcoming or attentive.

The staff are really friendly and helpful. The food is always lovely, and the atmosphere is always really nice! Service is basically instant on non-busy days but its understandable and its worth it. Its great quality for money and always a pleasure to go there.

We all enjoyed our meal. My beef was delicious and the children said the turkey was lovely. Sometimes the vegetables can be a little tasteless and unimaginative and the mustard and gravy has a powdery taste. Also, I feel like the gravy could have more flavour. Other than that all was fine and the staff were very nice and helpful.

This was only our second visit since the pandemic, previously we were regulars. Bearing in mind the current economic situation I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the food on offer and very much enjoyed the occasion. Everything was very good, including service and ease of booking. If I was to be picky I would say the vegetables were almost cold, but as I I am not I can only say we had an excellent meal and will be back for more next week.

The staff were lovely however the restaurant itself is run down. Our feet literally stuck to the floor because the carpet was so dirty. There was also no hand sanitizer at the entrance to the serving station, which I felt there should have been.

Would recommend going to this Toby's have been to others around the country and this is by far one of the best. Clean, friendly and always great food. There staff are friendly and helpful and nothing seems to much trouble for them. Food was cooked perfectly and the pudding choice is good.

Went for breakfast with some friends. The staff were very pleasant and had some vegetarian sausages cooked for me. The breakfast was good and even had Yorkshire pudding! Bottomless beverages so we stopped and chatted and drank coffee for an hour.

Haven't been in for over a decade but it was just as good as I remembered. Lovely lady at food service, meat cooked beautifully and the pudding (billionaires bar) was super. It's not worth cooking it yourself at those prices and I doubt you will find better roast potatoes. Good amount of parking so even if it's busy I suspect a space will be available. Will be coming back for sure

Came in at 11 for breakfast, they were in the process of clearing breakfast. They kindly did toast and jam for our 8 year old and fried egg sandwich for both me and my husband. How amazing these staff members are. Thank you, much appreciated.

We stayed in Carlisle for 2 nights and ate breakfast here all 3 mornings! Superb! Friendly staff, relatively quiet in the mornings, hot food and a good selection. Everything you need for a good English breakfast to set you up for the day.

I've been here a few times for breakfast but was too late so had carvery lunch instead. Everything was freshly cooked and no issues with the food or drinks. The tables were very sticky and one of the menus was covered in food. Likewise the banister to the toilet felt very sticky and just made the place feel a bit dirty.

Not much good to report, on arrival beer garden was filthy, dirty ashtrays overflowing( was only11. 30am)the carpet inside the building had about 10 years worth of grease and dirt on it. Tables were dirty cutlery needed polished, drinks glasses need renovated or renewed!!! The food in general was OK but I do like my Yorkshire pud to be taller than my peas!!! Staff were very good I think a lot of the probs should fall at the feet of the owners. DO NOT RECOMMEND

This place was recommended to us and we have now visited it twice for a carvery. Both times the food has been lovely, though they ran out of cranberry sauce last time. The staff are very helpful, polite and go out of their way for me being in a wheelchair. Thanks and highly recommend this restaurant.
