Terrible experience, you ride a bus for 1hr from the city to get to the beach, the bus leaves you in a parking area full of people and other buses. You then walk about 30 min through an unpaved road filled with trash under the heat to get to the beach. They overcharge you to be able to sit under an umbrella. The water is gorgeous but is filled with boats so it's not comfortable to bathe and swim. The beach is filled with scammers, we paid for lunch and it was very small and I don't believe it was cooked in sanitary conditions. The worst part was the return to the city. We had hired the tour through a tourism agency in the city and they promised to get us to the beach and back with lunch included. When we were ready to go back they said the bus they hired was not working (at least that's what they said but we believe there was no bus hired to begin with). A lot of people were stranded there with us along with the "guide" who was the biggest scammer of all of them. In the end we managed to go back with another bus. Terrible experience. Would not recommend, not worth it, don't waste your time. Really disappointed, and I'm Colombian!

Barú is one of the most beautiful beaches in Colombia. It is closed to Cartagena and the water is crystal with the white sand.

Magical, beautiful, enchanting. A resort carved out of a tropical forest. Great service, incredible views; near magnificent white sand beaches, great service, airy, tropical feel

Scammers! Bring as much of your own food/drink as possible and decline the umbrella service. The vendors prey on tourists. The water is nice but the peddling and overpricing detracts from the experience.

It's a bit smaller than the pictures make it look. Seating is pretty much right on top of the beach. There are rocks in the water and some in the sand depending on where you are. But it's still beautiful and the water is crystal clear and blue. We had no issues with theft. nothing got stolen. We felt safe the entire time

Beautiful beach but watch out for the “restaurant “ they charge you for everything (table, tent, chairs and service) and the food is crazy expensive

Nice sandy beach with warm turquoise water to swim in….few rocks. Rent a large parasol and seats to enjoy some drinks and snacks. Best if you arrive by private speedboat so that you can choose the best spot to relax in. Some of the vendors are a bit overpresent (water sports - jetskis etc…) but nice spot all the same.

The road heading to the beach area from the main road is unpaved , which is not the bad part , you see all the plastic and styrofoam waste thrown all over the place . Once you are parked you go down the hill which have a man made semi stairs that are not safe for seniors , you need to be careful going or you can slip and fall. Then you are greeted with more trash and garbage and flies!! When you finally get to the beach, there are chairs and umbrellas you can rent , but these are very close to the water and only have a narrow path to walk the beach . I suggest you come early because the place gets packed really quick after 11 am . No social distancing what so ever . We left where we originally sat and moved further down to a less crowded area , only then we were able to enjoy the beautiful beach and felt safe to even order food to eat. The place has a lot of potential to be an awesome beach resort But not unless the Colombian government invest in it !! It is a Shame that this Paradise is not getting the attention it Deserves.

One of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been. The people there is very nice and the food and drinks (they have both alcoholic and normal drinks) are so delicious. Had a beautiful time there with my partner. Would recommend going there early in the morning, gets a little crowded after 12 pm.

Be careful, to many scammers, please take a tour everything included or close, you will thank me later, take enough cash there's no atms around, you can pay by card some places, but will get charged 20% plus tips. Don't eat oysters from people handling them out on the beach they will charge you more than a fancy restaurant out with your date. Can't stress enough don't eat the oysters, remember that. Ask how much first.

Your time in Baru: 2% taking a nice Instagram photo If you can manage to find solitude We actually had to run away from a lady trying to charge us money to sit in a tree swing. Nature doesn't belong to you lady 98% fending off con artists and harassment Safety and food sanitation a definite issue. Hey Cartagena government you should probably do something about this problem. The vendors corner you because of remoteness. Bring your own meals and come when it's not busy. I would not recommend

If you can, hire one of the private boat & captains based in the old town port and spend a day out at beautiful Baru. There are livelier spots and super peaceful spots but either way, the sand is soft and the water is warm.

The beach is beautiful and there are a lot of things that you can do. However, the food is low quality and also expensive.
