By far the most terrible experience I had in Cartagena. The 5-island tour is poorly planned, so in the first 3 stops I was in a rush like a mouse on a wheel (an average of 45 minutes in each stop - be sure to be the first to leave the boat in case you want to see something). In the final stop, I stayed more than 4 hours on a beach with no infrastructure: no bathrooms (the ones available were filthy), no water to drink or anything after the “all-inclusive” lunch, unless I wanted to pay for overpriced drinks once I was a legal hostage on an island. On Cholon island I could not see a thing because I was put in a restricted area surrounded by a rope and swarmed with vendors that disturbed during all my short stay there. A total waste! On Playa Azul the fruit tray was tiny for the amount of people served! Plus, we had to eat from the same small plate - 20 people! Lunch was served on a beach without the minimal hygiene conditions in a very small portion. Because of this, I was sick and stayed in bed the next day. To come back to Cartagena, after the plancton experience, I was put on an old bus where I could see cockroaches strolling by. Favorite was definitely the island tours. I loved that they took the time to really get to know what we were looking to do and made the perfect recommendations.
