We've been coming here for years -- it was our first Ethiopian restaurant -- but now we live only 20 minutes away and will dine here even more! Vegan-friendly! Extremely delicious and unique! [Update 06/09/2022] Still the best! Food, service & spicy iced tea!! [Updated on 08/25/2022] Still great! Would love to see their hours expanded! [Updated 12/15/2022] Enjoyed another dinner at Gosh! Great service and one of our favorite meals in Knoxville!

This is the only Ethiopian place in town. It started as a hole in the wall, and due to their success they were able to upgrade and redecorate into a cute little place. Be aware there is NO silverware. You use pieces of the same type of bread that forms the "plate" to pick up food and eat with your fingers. This is a great place to go for sharing - order a Gosh Combo and go to town. Their lentil appetizer is amazing. Better than the meat version. Spiced to perfection. They serve it with a spicy relish that I wish was sold separately, perhaps by the quart. I've taken extra home before! Perfect place for vegetarians to show their friends that vegetarian food is not boring! The meat options are also really good though; one of the few places in town with lamb. This is a very small operation (2-3 people usually) and so they occasionally run out of a particular item. It also leads to the one downside -- if they are busy, cooking your order can take a pretty good while. Just keep that in mind if it's prime time or you are starving. The food is totally worth the wait. Also note they have a couple of import Ethiopian beers you can try.

I've been searching for an African restaurant since I've been here and this place is awesome. The food, customer service and ambiance was right. Nice place to have a date!

I’ve had some good food in Knoxville since I moved here, but nothing has compared to this food! Wow. So delicious. There are delicious meats, vegetarian options, and yummy baklava. The person working the restaurant that day was very kind and welcoming. It was a great date night, given the intimacy of the dining experience, too! Can’t wait to go back!

My wife and I had been trying to get food from Gosh for a while but we never make it to Knoxville when they are open. Finally a rode trip through Knoxville aligned with their hours and it was well worth the pit stop! GREAT FOOD! Everything was flavorful, and just downright delicious. The Sambusas were some of the best I have ever had. So crispy. The sauce they came with was next level! Hopefully on our way back home they will be open again!

Everything I’ve tried has been great. Go in with an open mind! Eat it with your hands!! The injera has a very spongey texture but I really enjoyed it. Wish they were open all day everyday.

The food is amazing! We visit here nearly every weekend for authentic Ethiopian food and love when Miriam is our waitress. The only thing that I'd recommend to improve is hours and days of operation. We love supporting other local businesses. - Prolific Xpressionz: Web & Branding

Food was wonderful! Server was very nice and explained about the different dishes. Would 100% reccomend. Alot of reviews said service was slow… my party was two out of four patrons in the restaurant, so that may have contributed, but it was less than 15 minutes from sit down until arrival of food. One of the neatest dining experiences I have had in my life.

I love Ethiopian food. I wonder what this was. I've had Ethiopian in NYC, London, and S.F. to name a few, many, many times as well as cooked it myself and I can say with authority this was the most bland tasting and poorly presented food it's been my misfortune to have set in front of me. The service was dreadful as well. I'd like to go into further detail but I really prefer not to relive the experience.

I absolutely love this place, and all of the Ethiopian restaurants I have been to. Food here is excellent, friendly staff, and di I mention the food. Truly is a communal experience, and the best food you will encounter. We usually go in a group of 4, get the combination plate and everyone just oohs and ahhh the whole time. It is all so good. The lentils, vegetables, collard greens ( Gomen) all to rave about. Chicken and beef.

The best Ethiopian place I ever ate at. My best friend is from Ethiopia and I have been to 20+ Ethiopian restaurants on three continents and this one is the very best! Nice family atmosphere where the wife is cooking and other family members serve the guests.

We got a vegetarian combo for three people (which is family-style), so were able to taste all of the veggie dishes. I really enjoyed the less-spiced lentils and the carrot-y dish, and between us there was somebody who liked every serving. We will definitely be back.

I tried the Combination with Lamb. The chicken and onions tasted really good. The lamb and beef were underwhelming. I expected more seasoning and a bit more tenderness to it. I liked the cabbage, didn't care for the rest of the platter. I did feel like I wasted 30 dollars of my money but I'm giving them 4 stars because the lady that serviced me was exceptionally nice and just because it's not my cup of tea, doesn't mean it won't be for someone else. If I do go back I'll just try something not so expensive and keep it towards the chicken.

Exceptional food! This place is our favorite restaurant in Knoxville. The quality is consistent and always so tasty. We get a combination of meat and vegetables / lentils each time. Our favorites are the spicy beef and the yellow split peas. Oh and the baklava! The food here seems expensive to me but is worth the money! We usually get takeout for convenience but the atmosphere is very low key and pleasant in the restaurant as well. The family who owns and runs it is kind and hardworking. 10/10 recommend!

WARNING: IF YOU DON'T LIKE TO EAT WITH YOUR HANDS, DON'T COME HERE. It however doesn't bother me. I did for some lay there and she demanded silverware. From the outside you couldn't tell much about the food, but when you stepped into the restaurant you found good food and friendly staff. I've been to this several times now and each time is as good as the last. Food: I ordered the Doro combination platter. This come with a good variety of what Gosh has to offer. In the past I've heard the chicken on this platter is to dry but mine was good. It also offers either Kay wot ( spicy beef) or Alicha wot (mild beef). It also come with 3 veggies. This place is very vegetarian friendly. My sister is a vegetarian and she ordered the vegetarian platter which comes with 6 vegetables samples. Service: other than the waitress not refilling my cup the first time, it was really good. However I drink a lot fast so I don't really blame the service. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. Atmosphere: can't say this aspect of the Restaurant was very impressive. It had several African style pictures on the walls and had TVs playing video of places in what I assume to be Africa.

Fluffiest, freshest injera I've ever had in my life. Fantastic, friendly and easygoing service. We got the lamb entree and vegetarian combo- perfect amount of food and the warm, hearty meal we needed on a cold winter day. Will definitely be returning. Gosh deserves all possible accolades.

I absolutely love the flavors of each dish I’ve ordered from this spot. I usually love their vegetarian #1-4 dishes. Their spiced hot tea is delicious. Every time you pour the tea, it tastes better and better because of the amount of time it took for the leaves to seep. The customer service is just so lovely. I just wish their appetizer comes in even numbers so we can split it evenly and for them to be open from Sunday through Tuesday!

My favorite restaurant! My husband and I eat here regularly. The food is delicious. I’ve had Ethiopian food in other cities but none compares to the food and service at Gosh Ethiopian! Gosh Ethiopian has the best! I hope they expand their hours and open a 2nd location in Blount County in the future. 🙏🏾

The best all around dinner I have had in pretty much my whole life. I got the hot spiced tea and the Ethiopian coffee, both of which were absolutely amazing. I had the meat sambussa as an appetizer, and it had so much flavor and was so fresh even though the dining room was completely full. The dinner plate for 2 with lamb was so delicious and complex. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, the food, atmosphere, drinks, service, everything about this place is perfect.

Delicious Ethiopian food, very friendly service, and very reasonably priced (dinner entrees about $15 per person). We ordered the combination plates for take out which allowed us to try a little of everything family style. We would happily enjoy their food again!

My fam and I go on road trips every year or two and 5 or 6 years ago during our travels we went to Gosh. On every trip since we talk about how incredible the food was there. Best Ethiopian food I’ve ever had. I think we got sampler platter of some sort and kitfo (Ethiopian steak tartare). I think we were the only customers that night and we got to talking to the owners and had such a fantastic time. We’re on another road trip right now and heading back to Gosh for a second visit. Can’t wait. UPDATE: It was delicious. The injera was good and sour, and every item was super tasty. Only hangup was that they stopped serving kitfo unless you order ahead of time. They explained that no one was ordering it so they had to meep throwing it out. So if you want kitfo, order ahead a few days by phone!!

The food was amazing. This was a two person combo platter and we couldn't finish it all. Food is made to order and enough flavor to keep you full for hours. Good food speaks for itself!

We shared a platter for 3 with lamb and got the hot tea. The dishes were delicious! I'm a vegetarian and had plenty to eat. If you've never had Ethiopian before, you might find the bread a bit weird (it's fermented and steamed). It grows on you. The tea tastes like Christmas, although I wish it were a bit stronger. Definitely recommend coming here.

Got the combo meat for 2 and baklava. Food: the meat combo was delicious. The injera is made well here. Baklava was mediocre. Tasted refrigerated. They told us to microwave them and it melted a lot. Customer service: the girl was very nice, but togo service is SLOW for only being open for 2 hours. Called in at 615, was told 20 minutes. Got there at 655 and waited for food until 730 which was 30 minutes after closing time. 4 others were waiting as well. I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous. I'd definitely recommend this place and I'm definitely going to go back ! Will edit rating depending on the service next time.

This jewel on Middlebrook Pike is a true Knoxville institution. You'll order your meat from the owner himself and don't miss the tomatoes he selects from Grainger County.Great home cooking. I've been coming here for years. I'm mid forties with two kids in their early twenties and we all love it. It's older, not nicely decorated and no one that wants a good home cooked meal cares. Love the atmosphere and the folks are so nice.

A lovely little place to eat. Authentic flavor, friendly service and very affordable. I've eaten Ethiopian food all over the world and I would put the food I had here up against any of it. If you've never tried it, you're in for a treat.

Disappointing. Not much flavor to my taste buds. I have heard from friends that they liked the spongy breath one eats with at the restaurant. I disliked it. And other than the bread: Tasteless mush to me. An acquired taste I suppose. Friendly service. Clean place. Vegetarian and probably healthy. I plus for me. And yet I will not go back.
