Old fashioned and delicious! Authentic 1950s drive in with friendly service and fresh, flavorful food. I had the 1/2 chicken plate that came with 4 pieces of chicken, cole slaw, french fries and 2 dinner rolls. The chicken was crispy and fried to perfection. It was so relaxing enjoying the food and watching the beautiful Charlotte sunset. We will most definitely be back! Special thanks to Guy Fieri w/Diners, Drive Ins and Dives for featuring this gem!

I drive by this place all the time. I’ve always wanted to try the food. Today I finally did. It’s an old fashioned drive in restaurant. I ordered the fish burger. It comes with fries & coleslaw. I got lemonade for a drink. The food came out pretty fast. The fish looked like big fish sticks so that threw me off. I put some tartar sauce on it and took a bite. It was delicious, hot & fresh. The fish was nice and flaky but not overcooked. The fries were crispy and hot. The coleslaw was crunchy and tangy. I put it on the burger and made it that much better. The lemonade was very refreshing. I definitely will be back!

I love old school drive-ins! And the food is amazing along with the fast service. I had the fish-o-burger and it came with fries, my daughter had a cheeseburger and the onion rings. Definitely going back to this place! Oh and if you love tarter sauce you will love theirs. It’s delicious! Prices are very reasonable! You have to check this Charlotte landmark out if you haven’t been.

A girlfriend and I stopped in for a quick bite to eat while out car shopping one day. It's set up as a drive in. They were very quick with delivering the food. It was excellent. I went with the Bacon Cheeseburger with fries and drink. Very yummy! Will definitely be back!

There’s a reason they’ve been open since 1955! Good quality food,fast and friendly service and a great experience. The food was fresh and delicious. We had the super boy combos, kids tenders, and order of onion rings and a Boston cream pie 😋

The food was great! The lady who took my order was a little snobby and short, but this did not detour me from trying the place out. The gentlemen, older guy, maybe in his 50's, was friendly and attentive and seemed to have a pride about the place. I recommend this place especially for lunch, but I warn you not to eat too much or you will get sleepy! Super reasonable pricing too!

I ordered the cheese burger with fries and tea. The burger was excellent but the fries were cold and the tea wasn't sweet enough. They gave me more lemon than sugar. My wife enjoyed it but I didn't. Service was mediocre and after I received my food that was the last time I saw my waiter. He missed out on a tip.

Good old drive-in restaurant. Food was fresh, service was fast. Price was a little high for fast food, but not outrageous. Onion rings were top notch.

Always a great experience. The service is off the chart. I love the chicken salad sandwich. The car hops will and can get you anything that you need, just ask. Be sure to tip the car hops well. They definitely “earn” their paychecks.

Love this gem! My husband introduced me to South 21 over 25 years ago and today, I introduced our daughter and her boyfriend to it. They loved it! The vibe, the service, the food, (especially the ONION RINGS) make this place AMAZING!!

Great food and amazing service. As a family, we ate chicken tenders, trout, shrimp, fried chicken, and burgers. All of it was amazing, and it was nice getting a bit of a local history lesson from a native Carolinian. Price point was perfect and all of the food was fresh and cooked to serve.

I so wanted the food to be good. I've been passing it for years and finally stopped. I will say, they know how to cook food. I got a cheeseburger with onion rings, my better half got fried chicken with fries. EVERYTHING was cooked to perfection. The only problem was there was zero seasoning. The batter on the onion rings and Chicken was nice and crispy but it had zero flavor. I was disappointed, not at all what I was expecting. No salt or pepper on anything, no flavor at all. And it was a shame because as I said, everything was cooked perfectly.

Surprised at the food this time around. The onion rings were over cooked almost burnt and the burger was just, best I can say, flat. Not great, not bad. Have had other meals at other South 21 and had wonderful food. Thought the original would be at least as good if not better.

The food was good and the service was GREAT! Jeff anticipated our every need and brought me my free refill before I even asked. He is amazing and great at his job! Thank you for a wonderful meal and drive-in experience.

They have the best trout plate around.. I have been going here since I was a young child. My Mother and Father would take us here when we were children and I have loved it since. That has been for at least 20 year's.

Love Love Love this place I always go to this location because I get the best service. They know who I am on the phone as I make my order they always say see you in ten minutes Renee. The food is Always in point never disappointed by anything from this location. I will continue to go there as often as I can. I grew up coming to this location an the old south Blvd location was where it all started for me as a child. But my daddy worked at the colesium across the street so we always got to come there before we went to the circus or Rodeo or what ever we got to go to that year. South 21 has always been the BEST BURGER PLACE IN CHARLOTTE! 😍😍

I got the fish and shrimp plate, a double cheese burger and side of onion rings. Fish and shrimp was delicious, moist on the inside. Burger was good, not dry. Onion rings was super dried. Well definitely go back.

I had the Fish sandwich, salad & their great vinegar cold slaw. The drive in service is fast & workers all very fast & polite. I have been going to South 21 for more than 40 years with family & friends. My Mom loved the place.

They have the absolute best Fried Trout Plate that I've ever eaten. I don't know what she does to her tartar sauce but I could eat it by itself. And their homemade cherry cokes like the old school soda shops. Yummmm!

A pleasant trip down memory lane for a native Charlottean. I love their fried chicken. However the other day I tried the perch plate-it was SO good. They make their own tartar sauce and vinegar slaw. My husband got the Super Boy. It was so good. Make your soul feel good food! The inside of the place is neat and very clean.Cant wait to go back! Thank you for keeping it nostalgic, affordable, and great!

Great place to get a classic cheeseburger. No bells and whistles, just a good pressed out and seared burger. The milkshakes are very light, but pair very well with a burger and fries. Also, the side of ketchup comes in a small plastic cup and they give you ketchup packets with your order if you only need a small amount of ketchup.

It's every bit as good as they have been rated to be! There is a reason they were featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. This place is the real deal drive-in diner and is definitely worth your time and money. Speaking of money, we got a lot of food for the price. Spent 27 dollars and had enough food for 3 or 4 people. Definitely a great place to take the family. Everyone there was super friendly and helpful. If there's one place you take the time to go try while in Charlotte, you can't go wrong going to the South 21 Drive in!
