I was in town for a couple of days and wanted coffee before starting our adventure for the day. We got 2 breakfast items and 2 coffees. (25$ btw) Got the coffees right away and it was BAD. It was very bitter and we didn’t even get half way through before throwing them away. They made us step aside for the food so that they can serve the customers behind us in line. Well we waited… and waited… and there was no indication our food was done other than the fact that people that stood behind us in line were getting their complete order and no one ever said anything to us. We went back to barista at the window that had our food sitting behind her the entire time!! Halfway back to the car we realized we were missing half of the order so we had to walk all the way back (parking was full so we were 2 blocks away.) luckily the quiche was actually pretty tasty so they mildly redeemed themselves. Over all, not a great experience. This is a place where if you judge it by it’s cover it should be good but in reality the looks surpass the quality. Go to Amelie’s instead.

Attempts to be special. NODA is a kitschy place sometimes hits, sometimes misses and occasionally in-betweens. Smelly cat is an in-between. Service at the window is slow. A server/helper brought you into the building to order. Funky design inside alcoves and seating area very eclectic. Reclaimed doors and odds and ends. Ceiling covered in bags from coffee beans. Design is five star. Customer service and experience is definite 3 star. They just miss in making you feel welcome. The drinks are odd mixes. The wake up is a weird mix of flavors. Not my thing. The London Fog was a creamy iced coffee good with great flavor. Maybe deserved a second chance. Will try again cuz I really wanted to like it just didn’t.

They have a 5 star rating for a reason, this roaster/restaurant is top notch. Between the excellent service and amazing coffee, this is a place to go to. I was privileged enough to meet the owner who is extremely kind and knowledgeable about her products. If you're looking for a cute spot to work or grab a quick bite to eat, this is your spot.

Outside counter area is a great idea though a little chaotic. It was rather busy when we arrived late morning on Sunday, so I couldn't imagine it during typical busy hours. Seems like a hopping little place with regulars who know what to do, where to go, and what the typically order. Definitely a place to stop and try if you're in the area.

First time visiting this part of Charlotte, and we went here because we thought the name was cute lol. But the coffee was phenomenal! The spiced brown sugar latte was delicious and my friend loved their white chocolate latte. The environment is so cute and customer service was great as well. Would love to visit this little place again when back in Charlotte. 🫶

Second time here over my weekend trip to Charlotte. If you are in/around/near NODA you have to at least get a coffee. Almost everything on the menu is made in house, from the coffee roasting to the baked goods. Everything I had was delicious and the staff was inviting and welcoming. They even asked how our latte was when we went to order seconds. Also if you are visiting with a dog there is a side window to order and plenty of outdoor seating. Thank you so much for the amazing food and vibe! Definitely a highlight of our stay in Charlotte.

Don't order tea here if you like black tea, better bang-for-buck sausage breakfast burrito can be found down the street at Rhino Deli Market (imo mcdonalds might even have better bfast burritos...), but apparently the coffee is pretty good

We’re just visiting Charlotte for the weekend and found this place & are so glad we did! The owner was more than accommodating- she explained the menu and even suggested samples before we ordered to make sure we got coffee that we really enjoyed! She went above and beyond to make sure our experience was excellent. They make all of their syrups and even roast their own coffee! The inside has a few tables and does have AC, she does lock the front door though always so just order at the window first and she will give you a table inside if you’d like, or there are lots of spaces outside to sit too! I had the lavender cold brew and it was delicious. My friend who came with got a decaf latte with spiced brown sugar syrup (which was homemade) & that was fantastic too! They also have some Cuban coffee that I would love to give a try too! We didn’t order food, but would’ve gotten a bagel, frittata (only served on weekends), donut, or sandwich. Highly recommend this cozy, welcoming coffee shop!

Smelly Cat stands out as a distinct coffee shop in the artsy Noda neighborhood of Charlotte. While the space is cozy with limited indoor seating, they offer convenient walk-up window service and ample outdoor seating. On my visit, I tried their chai tea latte and it was delightful.

Can I say it??? Ima say it…. This coffee is the best coffee I have had🙌🏾 sooooooo good and strong. This is my second time coming and I can finally leave a review. I had to wait until the second visit because the first was just too good to be true! I couldn’t even get a good picture of my Spiced Brown sugar oat milk latte. I blinked and it was gone😂

This place is super popular but honestly the way it’s set up is odd to me. Also one of the doors is just locked unless an employee lets you in but the one next to the parking lot (not the sidewalk) is unlocked? It’s just odd. Also, why should you have to order outside if you’re going to go sit inside? However if you want to sit outside it also works well with the order and pickup windows preventing too much congestion in one area. Food items are overpriced but the drinks are standard pricing and tasty so not much of a complaint there.

9/69 breakfast sandwich of the week. Breakfast bagel with avocado, cheese and egg. Honestly I came in looking and feeling like a smelly cat and sustenance was needed. Overall quite nice! Sometimes with a bagel you need more filling to balance out what Webster dictionary can only describe as dearthy ness of the bagel. This one, however was soft and hard at the same time. Perhaps an expert deployment of butter?? Barely needed hot sauce on this one which is always a great sign. Would recommend and under a solid price point of 8 dollars. Giving it 8.8/10 mcmuffs

The coffee at Smelly Cat is smooth, strong, and tasty housemade syrups. This has been my favorite coffee shop for years.

Smelly Cat Coffee House is my go to spot since I have been back home. My food is excellent, my coffee is Hot and delicious and the atmosphere is sooo calm and cool. Before Covid it was 😳 crowded and hectic. But now you can enjoy the space inside. ☺️ Thank you Owner and Staff for making this 🙏🏿 ❤️ a welcoming space.

The coffee drinks we enjoyed (me latte, my husband coffee) were quite tasty however my latte was warm at best, which was extra discouraging due to the fact that we waited almost 15mins for it (my husband had finished his coffee by the time I got my latte).

I ordered a Chai Tea Latte with Brown Sugar. It took a long time to get it, when I did receive it, it was cold. Yes, I ordered it hot. I wasn’t impressed and will not return.

We have traveled to several coffee shops throughout trips and this is definitely in our top 3! Going home with 2 bags of coffee to remember this incredible place! Owner was so kind and will definitely recommend.

This is such a cool spot! I love the indoor and outdoor seating which makes it pretty dog friendly, plus the parking spots right in front. Everyone was very friendly and the coffee and food was really great. I had a quiche and an iced latte with the spiced brown sugar syrup and it came out quickly. If I’m going through Charlotte again, I’m making a stop here again for sure.

The wait time is insane. If you’re going to try this place out, please order online. I ordered 2 caramel lattes with oat milk, and only 1 with an extra shot of espresso. Both drinks were wrong and they didn’t tell me which one had the extra shot. Both cups were labeled the exact same way. There was a woman asking questions about a job position. The lady at the pickup window advised her about availability and then got really snobby and said “I can’t answer your question. I have to go make drinks” and slammed the window on her. If she had that attitude while making coffee, there wouldn’t be a long wait time. It was not busy. Everyone who was already waiting before me looked extremely bothered by the wait time. Do not recommend.

This place is my favorite coffee shop in Charlotte. I'm always impressed with the quality of the drinks and the swiftness of the staff. A very friendly staff as well. Unfortunately today 9/1/22 there was a middle aged woman taking orders and her presence seemed to bog down their whole operation. Every person who ordered was handed shots of coffee to try, which was a nice sentiment, but certainly increased wait times. I love coming to this place, but one disruptive element certainly threw off the shops flow today.

Finally got a chance to try Smelly Cat and it did not disappoint!! I got the Ethiopian cold brew which was fantastic. My parents got herbal teas. I didn’t get to try any of the food as we had just come back from Amelie’s so I can’t speak to that. Service was very friendly, helpful with suggestions, and patient with decisions even though they were busy. They had ample outdoor seating which was really nice but I couldn’t tell what was going on with the indoor seating. The door to the inside looked to be locked and there was a sign saying that anyone who wanted in could get assistance from the barista. Maybe still a covid thing? Anyway, can’t speak to the inside aesthetic either but I will definitely be back for more Ethiopian cold brew!

This place looked amazing online but was a little underwhelming, sadly. The place is still beautiful, and the employees are incredibly kind. The parking is non-existent, the setup is inconvenient, which if the coffee was amazing I would completely look over. I drink black coffee and dark roasts are my go to, but I think there was something not right with this coffee. There was something about it that was bitter/almost burnt, that left a bad aftertaste after each sip. The breakfast options are a great idea, I do wish there were options for adding something spicy, different sauces, etc. As far as I could tell there weren’t any listed on the board.

If you have never been here before, beware that it's not set up like a regular coffee shop. I came on a Sunday and couldn't figure out how to get inside the cafe as the front door was locked. I walked around the building and the side window was closed too. I saw other people sitting outside and had to ASK how I can order coffee: you have to "ring the doorbell" at the side window, place your order, and ask them to unlock the door so you can sit inside. Aside from that, the coffee itself was great.

This is the opposite of a chain coffee shop! We love this place. The owner is actually hanging out making sure you are very satisfied. They care about there products and their coffees taste special like there is a little love in all of it. We worked here a couple of mornings and the wifi was solid. Comfortable / quality products / friendly staff and an engaged owner that takes pride in her shop.

I had high hopes for this place. I just couldn’t understand it. We had reservations to eat inside. We had no idea where to go. The doors were locked. We saw a woman carrying a tablet who took another table of people inside, so we thought we just had to wait for her to come back out to seat us. She never did. We went up to a window to ask what we needed to do. That guy told us to go up to the other window, skip the line, and tell them we had a reservation. I did that. The person at that window said we needed to wait in line, order our food, and then we’d be let inside. What was the point of having a reservation if we had to be in the same line as everyone else? When we finally got inside, my friend received her food and coffee, and I didn’t receive mine. My friend sat there not eating until an employee walked by and asked why she wasn’t enjoying her food. That was the only reason I ever even got my food. The breakfast burrito was tiny, but the coffee was good. We walked down the street and got Reigning Doughnuts immediately afterward because we were still hungry. All in all, it was a disappointing stop. Love the coffee mural on the side of the building though!

Your experience may vary, but on my last visit, after being seated inside I was asked to get up and move to make room for another party. That happened after they forgot to bring my food to the table. And afterwards they didn’t deliver the promised refund for the food that never came, and I had to contact them again. That is enough for me to not want to come back. There are half a dozen other coffee shops in walking distance and lots more a short drive away, all with the same or better quality coffee and that have never displayed such low standard of service or respect.

This spot had probably one of the best if not the best espresso shots I've had in my life. I came back a second day to make sure it wasn't a fluke - it wasnt. Their drip was on point too. I ended up picking up some beans to brew at home and have been loving those so far as well. I'll probably make it a point to visit this shop every time I go to Charlotte now.

The Smelly Cat Coffee House was highly rated, so my crew and I went out of our way to visit. I ordered an espresso in a ceramic cup and two pour overs to go. After 20 or so minutes and the other folks getting their drink (at various times), I inquired on my drinks. The espresso was sitting in a paper cup waiting to come out with the pour overs that were still not done. When I reminded them that the espresso was supposed be in a ceramic cup, the took the old espresso and dumped it in a ceramic cup. It was cold and no good- a waste of money. The pour overs were just okay. I was super bummed. It did not live up to the hype.

Stopped here on my way through town. The service was really friendly. I got a lox bagel and a chai latte as I'm not a coffee drinker. Both were very tasty.. the bagel took a minute you have to wait by the pick up window before taking a seat, but it was worth it. The bagel was toasted perfectly and the lox was cool and fresh. Perfect way to start the morning. The atmosphere was nice. When I showed up, a few people had brought their dogs, others were just catching up. It was a nice peaceful spot that felt very local. It was the sort of spot you wished you lived next to so you could walk there for a nice moment with coffee/tea in the sun. There is also a shaded patio in the back where dogs aren't allowed, if that's your thing. There is a parking lot and plenty of space when I went. People didn't seem to stay too long but long enough for a cup of coffee. People were a mix of individuals and groups, some working some chatting, some just enjoying the weather

My daughter and I enjoyed our handcrafted coffee beverages. I enjoyed a hot mocha, and she went for the caramel Frappuccino. It was a lovely day in the porch. We saw many people working while enjoying the weather on the patio. Looking forward to returning.
