Dyakovsky
Garden
-
the
most
extensive
of
the
historical
Kolomna
gardens
-
is
located
near
the
Church
of
the
Beheading
of
John
the
Baptist,
along
Golosova
Ravine.
According
to
historians,
“not
one
of
our
ancient
kings
was
engaged
in
agriculture
with
such
passion
at
home
as
Tsar
Alexei
Mikhailovich.”
In
the
17th
century
Kolomenskoye
had
six
gardens:
Bolshoy,
Novy,
Krasny,
Kazansky,
Boznesensky
and
Dyakovsky
(the
last
three
have
survived).
Information
about
fruit
and
berry
plantings
around
the
royal
residence
is
given
in
the
“Census
of
palace
gardens
of
1701”.
Even
then,
the
layout
was
geometrically
correct,
and
in
addition
to
apple
trees
of
various
varieties,
there
were
cherries,
pears,
plums,
as
well
as
berry
bushes
and
vegetables,
and
even
walnuts
or,
as
it
was
called
then,
Constantinople
nuts.
The
age
of
fruit
trees
is
short-lived,
so
the
current
gardens
are
not
ancient,
but
historical:
the
trees
are
new,
the
varieties
are
modern,
but
the
layout
is
the
same,
ancient.
