The Milovida Pavilion (“Milovidova Gallery”) was built in 1803-1804, presumably according to the design of Vasily Bazhenov’s student, architect Ivan Egotov, and is a walk-through arched gallery with four small corner rooms (“offices”) for visitors to relax. It got its name due to the fact that the pavilion is located on the edge of a hill and offers a beautiful view of the Upper Tsaritsynsky pond with an artificial island. At the beginning of the 19th century, Tsaritsyno, being a popular place for pleasure walks and picnics, like other pavilions, was converted into coffee shops and entertainment buildings. And now there is a coffee shop next to it.

After reconstruction 2000-2007. “Milovida” has been restored to its early 19th-century appearance, but the paintings and sculptures have been partially restored. A cafe has been located in Milovid since 2022; there are tables next to the pavilion during the warm season.

A very quiet and peaceful place, away from the main paths. Few people come here and you can enjoy the peace and quiet.

A lovely pavilion guarded by sphinxes. I think we can come up with a more interesting purpose for it.

Allegedly, Catherine herself named the pavilion Milovida. When Tsaritsyno became a public park, this building was used as a tea house, and a brass band often played in the neighboring grove, called “Milovidova”. It is known that the Duchess of Edinburgh, before her marriage, Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna, daughter of Alexander II, drank tea at Milovid. According to the inventory of 1825, statues, busts, and sphinxes are also listed here, but now, alas, almost nothing has survived. You can’t drink tea here now either; the corner offices today house the security guards of the Tsaritsyno Park Museum.

From here, it seems, a sled descent was originally planned in winter. Hmm, as for me, the slope for these games is quite steep.
