Pleasant stop for dinner in the refectory at Chester cathedral. I couldn't help wondering how many other people has eaten in the spaces that we occupied over the hundreds of years that this has been in existence. Typical cafe food served quickly and friendly. Reasonable price, but with the option to buy a dinner for a homeless person as well. Liked that idea!

If you're shopping Chester, or simply visiting, do drop into the Refectory Cafe. It is simply brilliant. (Forget Trip Advisor's unfairly downbeat 4* rating!!) And they really do need your money to keep everything going. The food is delicious and the portions are excellent. Their hot chocolate is probably the best I've ever tasted!! The prices are sensible and very reasonable for really good food. Okay, the surroundings are sparse (it is a cathedral after all!!) but the welcome is warm and politely enthusiastic and believe me - I have paid much, much more for a lot, lot less in other places. When we're in Chester, we make a point of going here - even just for coffee or tea because it is never heaving busy and the smiley welcome always puts a spring in our step and a smile in our hearts. Enjoy your visit!! We always do.

Delicious homemade cakes. Thoroughly enjoyed the Victoria sandwich. Stained glass windows added to the atmosphere and calm area in which to enjoy refreshments away from the bustle of a busy shopping town centre.

Cafe 1092 is fantastic - truly the best atmosphere for an afternoon tea or cake. Lunch is also available, though sandwiches felt a little expensive compared to the other items. Service was friendly and fast, and tables were fairly full but turned over quickly.

Chester Cathedral is wonderful and the choir on the day we went was lovely. The Cafe' is huge and atmospheric, the coffee's and cake that we had was delicious

Popped in for lunch while out and about in Chester. Food was great (not cheap) but quality is worth it. The vaulted ceiling, stained glass windows and tapestry make for a nice setting for lunch. No need to to oay the voluntary entrance fee just walk in

We went there last Saturday and found it an oasis of calm in the middle of a busy city. Due to a faulty train we just missed breakfast so we had a lunch instead. There were both vegetarian and gluten free options the menu. I had the Welsh Rarebit, brilliant, while my wife had a gluten free cheese sandwich with a large side salad. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. We will definitely be going again.

I have visited here a couple of times for coffee & it's nice enough. It's a large area (which has only had 2/3 occupied while I've been there) so lacks a bit of atmosphere. Staff are efficient but couldn't be described as friendly. The saving grace is the beautiful stained glass window at one end which looks amazing when the sun shines through.

Great place to have a drink and a meal. The food is good and the Venu of course is great.

We ate after an amazing tour of the roof of the cathedral with a very informative guide - Emma. It was great to sit and have some lunch and chat about the experience. The food was really good, staff very friendly. I intend to bring my sister back to Café 1092 so she can enjoy the experience - "Thank you" for a great experience

Popped in for a drink and a cake. Lovely atmosphere. A good range of food on offer as well. Beautiful natural light in the refectory.

Really is a lovely place to sit down and chill out, especially if you have visitors coming to Chester. Just had a cappuccino and the cookie dough. Cookie dough was decent, but the cappuccino pretty disappointing - way too high milk to coffee ratio and not frothy at all. Staff were great.

We had a tasty lunch in the beautiful surroundings of this ancient refectory. The staff were polite and helpful. It's heated, but in the winter you might want a coat if you're cold-blooded 🙂.
