I would agree with the last reviewer regarding advice to come early. I arrived at 9.30am and it was already busy. Following previous visit, arrived at 6.30am to see the dawn and sunrise. Worth getting up early for. This place presents a wonderful collection of Temple buildings with numerous Shrines, Buddha Statues and great views across Chiang Mai and beyond. Easy to spend a good hour here enjoying seeing everything on the site. Free to visit.

Definitely worth the short journey from Chiang Mai center, as the winding road into the hills offers a pleasant ride and a cooler temperature than the city. There is little shade when you reach this destination though. This old temple has an interesting history and associated legends. There is plenty to see with shrines not just to Buddha but to Hindu deities as well. It is a very popular destination for local tourists so don't expect to be able to get photos without people in them. The viewpoint is a nice area though if you are not asian you will have to pay 50 baht.

Be careful when visiting this temple. The roads are steep up the hill. But once up there, it's really very nice! When you visit it, do not miss the chance of taking pictures on the staircase. It overlooks a lot of the mountains and village below.

This is one of the most popular Buddhist sacred place in Chiang Mai for Thai to make a merit and pray for a good luck and good fortune for their work, life, love and job. There is a car parking available near to the temple just a short walk. Behind the temple there is a good view point for the scenery of Chiang Mai city.

It is about 10km away from Chiang Mai and you can reach here by motorcycle or Tuktuk. Entrance is free. One of the best holy places i have been. Quality of Buddha statues are really good. You can maybe visit during sunrise as well to watch the city too

Delighted to be back. Here’s my second time visiting this holy place where the ultra-sacred 500-year-old Luang Phor Tanjai has permanently resided and been worshiped by all of the Buddhists nation-wide. In general, people mostly came to make a wish. And whenever it accomplished, they would come back and offer Luang Phor Tanjai plenty piles of jasmine garlands in return. But I only came here to pray for the motivation and strength in life without any other specific purposes. Satisfactory enough 🙏🏻✨

This is an awesome temple to visit. As of January 2021, there is no entrance fee for foreigners. The Buddha is huge, and all of the architecture inside is stunning. Plus you can see great views of the city. Definitely a must-see place in Chiangmai.

Recommended by my friend to visit this temple. She had her prayers answered so she was back to payback the deed. Apparently there is a specific way to pray in this temple for you to fulfil your prayers. However they are written in Thai, get someone to translate for you or you can try google translating the photo of the poster above the prayer area

One of the large and popular temple in Chiang Mai. It’s beautifully maintained and very active with many locals coming to make a wish and pray. Tips: you have to come very early (before 8am) if you are looking for quiet and solace. It gets busy very fast.

Lots of side chapels for worshipers from India and some other Buddhist countries. Very big temple area. Worshipers bringing flowers to the temple in thanksgiving to God answering their prayers. You can pray and receive a prophecy there are over 100 prophecies. Love you over Chiang Mai is amazing you can see the ring of mountains around the city. It’s a very nice place to come and pray and relax

If you are a person / tourist who like to know more about Thailand and their belief and culture this is good place for you to see it and learn from them. It gets so crowded really fast so you might want to visit early here . A lot of people flying just to get here so thousands of people everyday . Have fun 🤩

The complex has a lot of temples and stalls at the front. However, at the back, it's very spacious with very beautiful scenery of Chiang Mai from the mountain top.

Temple on top of the mountain with a beautiful view located just beside chiang mai city center. There’s a 1.5km trek up to the temple and many locals go there to make wishes and prayers. The gold buddha statues look absolutely incredible and breathtaking.

Fabulous scenery and great place to make a wish! many Thai people coming here to make a wish and they got their wishes came true. But you have to walked inside in order to see that Buddha image. But if your wish come true you have to come back with at least 50 fresh jasmine garland.

This would be a 5star review anywhere, but probably in CM there are nicer temples. Still a beautiful complex, but maybe i just way too hugh expectations. There is a nice view, plenty of small shops, temple, stupa and several statues spread all over the property. The big painting by the parking lot was probably my favorite spot

Nice well maintained temple. Also a few stalls on the way to the temple with souvenirs, food and drinks. If you are not a Buddhist you can sightsee the temple in about 1 hour.

It's a very pleasant place. It's on top of the hill. You can view the whole Chiang Mai city from there.

visited on 9/12/2024.... The temple is on top of a hill...... Driving along the hill is still manageable.... Parking is quite limited..... View is beautiful and there are lots of people doing merits..... Remember to cover knees when you enter the temple....

Not overly interesting temple with 2 giant Buddha statues but obviously very popular with local people as it was really busy when I was there. The temple lies on a hill at the western edge of the town and has nice views of Chiang Mai, although the view is more spectacular on Doi Suthep. No entrance fees even for foreigners. If you go there make sure you have a transport back into town.

Doi Kham is beautiful and the view of Chaing Mai is breath taking. Also a lot of nice little shops to eat or buy things. Has 2 large Buddhas one at the enteance and one over looking the city view. Also despite the large amounts of people the wat remains peaceful and quiet. If you visit Chaig Mai it's a most see don't over look it because of Doi Saket is near.

Make your way here for sure. Beautiful with great views at the top and take part and ask for something and then come back when it comes true. Beautiful temple where you can take part in some of the rituals.

A temple with a nice vibe. It always feels like a carnival. Stunning huge mural with the depiction of the churning of the ocean of milk. This time this Hindu tale includes Marvel characters. Children will love it. A modern Where's Wally 😉.

It is very sacred for many Thai people. If you are the one who wanna make a wish and have trust in Father Tanjai, it is a good place to come.

Best place to see Chiangmai from the top. Winter is the perfect season no pollution blue sky. Beatiful temple with a long history behind

Beautiful temple. Not too far from city and easily reachable by motorbike. View is very nice. My personel idea, it is smaller but better than Doi Suthep.

The stairs leading up, that you can find on some of the iconic photos end in the wood with a steep trail leading to/from the parking lot. Recommend to walk the road 20 - 40 min

Wat Phra That Kham. Another one with similar name called Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Make sure you go to correct direction. They are 3-4 miles apart. I come for visit, it’s my first time to be here. Such a beautiful place. Party I think this is like the one in Malaysia 🇲🇾, but not that similar. In the gate, you may find a statue in the pond where people throw the coins in it for blessing (the picture is not included here xixi). This place is quite popular locally and internationally. You may find some local hawkers and some lottery 🎫 sellers here. I assume the toilet here is free. One big thing you have to consider to visit here is the weather. If you come with car it is good. Unlike bike, you need to prepare things like rain coat, slippery-proof shoe in case the surface there quite wet. That’s it! If you find this review helpful, kindly follow my page for more. Happy to share about my journey again in the future #travelistolive #islander

My 2nd here that is always crowded. Combining pagoda and great city view of Chiangmai.

  • 5/5 Justin B. 5 months ago on Google
Wat Phra That Kham was only a 10 minute grab ride for me from where I’m staying but from the city centre it’s at least 20-25 minutes. Definitely worth visiting such breathtaking experience of temples, Buddha statues, view point of Chiang Mai and places to eat. Free entry but make sure you donate to support the local. I went during the weekday and the crowds weren’t as busy as a weekend. Easily spend an hour or two hours to fully explore the place. You can also hike to the viewpoint but I didn’t get the opportunity to do that maybe next time when I visit again.

I visited this big Buddha temple on a weekend evening. It was fairly crowded but not too crowded. Pros 1. The big Buddha statue is must visit in Chiang Mai. 2. The temple has several status and photo opportunities. 3. It is a view point for Chiang Mai city. We can observe the whole city from here depending upon the weather. 4. The sarangs (the leg covering drape) are available for free. Cons 1. It is a bit far from the city centre. 2. The road might be tricky for some car drivers. Mostly it is a 2 lane mountain road through a dense forest.

  • 5/5 Saranya A. 1 year ago on Google
The temples were beautiful as were the Buddha statues. For Hindus, you will be happy to see Ganesha as well as Shivan there as well. Two temples also depict the story of Buddha which was well painted.

Most accessible Paronoma view and mountain experience due to the mountain height and proximity to the city

  • 5/5 Alwin G. 10 months ago on Google
Wat Phra That Doi Kham treats visitors to a view as majestic as the temple itself. Its Buddha statue, grander than those in Chiang Mai's old city, inspires awe. Entry is free, but consider donating to support the temple's upkeep. A sight to behold, a memory to cherish.

Originally, I was going to go to Doi Suthep, but I visited Doi Kam as the next best option because it was far away. It was better than expected, so the whole family who visited together was really satisfied. There is no admission fee, and if you wear a short skirt or shorts, you can also borrow a skirt around your waist for free. In the middle, there was a place where I paid a small amount of money and made a wish, so I experienced it pleasantly. There are so many spots to take pictures and the pictures come out pretty. My family still says it's good to go to Doakam.

Places to eat. So so so many instagram worthy selfie points. Parking fee: zero Entry fee: zero You can easily go there for a good time.

Beautiful scene. It is high land, so we can take photos from high place and see some area in Chiang Mai. It has souvenir and foods as well

  • 5/5 Tomáš . 8 months ago on Google
The view was super nice, we could see almost the whole Chiang Mai from there. We paid 380baht (10€) for a taxi from Chiang Mai to get us there, wait for us 45min till we wonder around and take us back.

Beautiful Buddhist temple in the hills overlooking Chiang Mai. Very popular place to make merit in relation to financial benefits. Make sure you come back and make a big donation if your prayers are answered 🙏😊

  • 5/5 Gary J. 1 year ago on Google
Very nice temple up the hill over looking Chiang Mai. Car park at the top. Plenty of figures to see & a lovely temple. Some small shops selling souvenirs, snacks & drinks. Toilets on site. We stayed about 1hr to 1.30hr and felt we had seen it all & offered our donations.

  • 5/5 Laura C. 7 months ago on Google
The place is crowded but absolutely worth it. The atmosphere is so beautiful and the jasmine flowers and the incense donate to the place a mysterious vibe. The mountain view and the city below is so close but still you get the peaceful feeling as such you are surrounded by the clouds.

  • 5/5 Youssra M. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful temple located at the top of the mountain. It’s totally worth to explore the national park that surrounds it. Not many foreigners know about that place so it’s nice to see locals hanging out.

  • 5/5 Simon Q. 1 year ago on Google
We hiked up from a parking lot below. Nice hike, but it may be very steep and long for some people. If you need to exercise, this trail is great. Dragon steps start only at the top. The bottom part is not clearly indicated...only in Thai. Great views at the top once you get up there.

  • 5/5 Richard W. 1 year ago on Google
High up in the mountain in Chiang Mai this is a trip worth taking. One of Thailand’s most beautiful temples with stunning views over the city. It can get crowded so arrive as early as you can. Take a baht bus or hire a motorcycle to get up here. There is a street food market at the bottom of the steps leading to the temple with great variety in offer at reasonable cost. Aim to spend a good half day here to soak in the atmosphere and explore the temple.

  • 5/5 David T. 1 year ago on Google
A very nice temple to visit. There is a side road to get to the mountaintop where the temple is. Of course, one can choose to climb the few hundred steps. Beautiful temple. The buddha next to the pagoda is famous for those hoping to get lucky with the lottery. You won't miss it. There are machines to give lucky number for 20 Bart as well. The great view from the temple provides for nice photo opp and lots more to see as well.

The Wat Phra That Doi Kham is an attractive not much visited temple known for its 17 meters high Buddha image. The temple that was built towards the end of the 7th century sits on top of a forested hill just outside of Chiang Mai. The name of the Wat means golden mountain temple.
