Awesome. Definitely an unique experience in Thailand. I recommend it anyone to do it but make sure you go to the one they don’t mistreat the elephant. This place really care for the elephants. The caregiver show a lot knowledge and care for the elephants. We don’t enjoy too much bathing with the elephant because is like a pond instead of running water. Other than that is a excellent experience.

I’m giving it 2 stars because when I went it felt just like the show tiger king. It seems like they are using these elephants for monetary purposes and it’s not a real “sanctuary”. Thailand has a terrible reputation for their mistreatment towards animals and it seems like elephants are now being bought to be used as “sanctuaries” instead of lodging. I guess it is the best of both evils. However, after much research, I found out that the least interaction with the elephants, the more humane it is. I regret not knowing this before going on this tour. I asked many questions about the background of those “saved elephants” and all of the mahouts didn’t seem to know or had a different story. I then found out they have several “sanctuaries “ all over Thailand. I highly doubt this place is a true sanctuary. It just doesn’t seem humane to have 7 days a week 2 tours, I find it difficult to see how an elephant could ever enjoy this. I give it 2 stars because i guess I prefer seeing an elephant playing and pretending to love being bathed with humans over having people ride them or being used for lodging. But I hope this brings awareness to someone thinking about doing an elephant experience, because I didn’t know.

From all corners we heard something about the elephant sanctuary. So we have chosen the best rated company. We booked a half-day tour and I would not recommend more, because with the full-day tour you just do everything twice. The transport to the sanctuary was organized by the company. From the old town of Chiang Mai it takes about 1.5 hours to get to the sanctuary. You will be transported in very uncomfortable pickup trucks so I recommend to take pills against nausea. The company itself writes this on their website. At the elephants themselves, everything is well planned. First they feed you with bananas, then they make "medicine" for you, after that you are allowed to bathe with them in a not really clean water and are also made wet by the guide. Afterwards it goes into another bath with which one rubs the elephants with mud. At the end you are given food to eat. In the whole one is 3 hours on the way and approx. 2.5 hours on the spot. Whether it's worth it, everyone must decide for themselves. When bathing or in all activities, the elephants are constantly fed with bananas so it looks like the elephants are lured with food to each activity and I also think that the elephants have no desire to be bathed every TAg by several tourists. In itself, of course, it is a beautiful experience, because you can get extremely close to the animals which is an indescribable experience. The organization was also good.

We have been to two of the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary camps near Chiang Mai, once for a half day, and once for a full day. Both trips were amazing. These are TRUE sanctuaries for the elephants where they are treated gently and with a great deal of respect. Their handlers give them lots of love and are never cruel or angry. Their only real concern is the safety of the elephants. The elephants are free to wander about as they like and enjoy the water and the jungle. The handlers are also sure that the tourists treat the animals with the utmost respect. The elephants are amazing beings that take in your love and attention (and any treats you may offer like bananas!). They love the attention when you rub mud on their bodies and then roll around in the river with them scrubbing them with brushes. We even got to play with a baby elephant on our last visit! 400 pounds of playful energy! Also, we did a jungle hike with 4 elephants. I have hiked all over the world, but never with an elephant as a companion! It is an experience that can't be missed when you are visiting Chiang Mai! Also, these camps not only give these animals a safe and loving environment to live in, but also raise awareness regarding animal abuse (especially the abuse of elephants- there is NO riding of elephants at these camps because riding causes them great pain and significantly shortens their life spans- plus an elephant has to be taken from its mother while very young and "broken" in a small cage to be a riding or work elephant- so cruel!) ) and help us lowly humans to make connections with these fantastic gentle animals so that we all try to help preserve them in the wild.

What a wonderful experience! My friends and I attended for a half day at camp 4. The day starts with you getting picked up from your hotel in their songthaew, which takes just over an hour to get there. When choosing a sanctuary, I was conscious about the welfare of the elephants, but my mind was put at ease when I saw how happy they looked and how well cared for they were at this one. They're also allowed to roam around on their own, get a good feeding and regular vet checks. Every element of the day was fun and educational. The food provided was also very good. I would definitely go again!

It was a great experience! A good chance to learn about the living habits of elephants closely. I booked a morning half-day trip and the tour guide came to pick me up at the hotel, I was the only one to visit because of covid. The tour guide was so friendly and nice. The camp is in the mountain, we arrived finally after a long way of driving. I was so excited to meet the elephants, one female elephant was already 45 years old, and the only male elephant was 6 years old and was born in the camp. I remember his name is Dekchai. He is so cute. First, they gave me a big basket of bananas to feed them. And then I went to have a jungle walk with the elephants to watch their behaviors. Later, I got to try bathing the elephant, and also play with water in a small river. The tour guide also taught me to make "medicine balls" for supplying vitamins to elephants.

We did the half dag morning visit to camp 1. Pick up was on time at 06:30am from our hotel. As other reviews wrote, you get picked up by a truck. Not super comfortable but manageable (and there is a 15min stop in the middle to grab a coffee). Great staff at the sanctuary. Amazing to be so close to the elephants and play with them. Also a lunch was provided! Overall we had a great experience!! We think half a day is enough.

I went to Elephant jungle Sanctuary camp 8 to do the half day morning program. I could not have asked for a better experience. The pick up time was punctual; The guides during our time were really nice and so funny, which makes the day even better. They explain all about the place, answer questions, take pictures and so on. They also have a photographer which is so nice. The time playing with the Elephants were really enough and during mud and shower time the Elephants are not forced to stay longer. To complete the lunch was amazing!! I would say it was one of my best days in Southeast Asia. I had a amazing and unforgettable day there! I highly recommend this place. There is Pregnant Elephant and I am so happy that her baby will be born in a nice environment 😀.

Pleasantly surprised! Spacious, well arranged, ventilated, well lit, great exhibits providing information in Thai and (decent) English regarding the history of the Northern (Lanna) Region, the arrival and spread of Buddhism into the different parts of Thailand, and more. Personally, as it was my first visit, I was very impressed by some of the displays, and the English translations - while containing some errors, was reasonably well done. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there, depending on how you enjoy your museum visits, this one could range any where between 1-3 or even 4 hours. As I was visiting with elders, I was also very impressed at the availability of an elevator (there are 2 levels), and I noticed ramps with handrails connecting some of the display areas that were set apart from the main areas. Highly recommended for people who are interested on learning about the North. 😊👍

This is a great sanctuary that seems to really put a lot of care and time into taking care of their elephants the right way. All of the elephants were very happy and playful and the up close experiences were amazing. All of the guys that coordinated the day for us were very funny, friendly, and kind. We also liked that the grounds were a bit more secluded into the wilderness than other sanctuaries. The only pet we didn’t enjoy is the 2 hour journey sitting in the back of the pickup truck can be quite uncomfortable, especially on those small curvy roads. I know there’s not much that can be done about that due to the remote location in the wilderness, but maybe if the majority of the transport were done by a minibus it would help a lot until everyone transferred to the truck for the steep dirt roads.

The experience at this sanctuary was the highlight of my trip to Thailand. The experience started by being picked up at my hotel which was very convenient. Door to door service! The staff was very kind and welcoming. They gave clear instructions on how to treat the elephants and educated us on the work they do at their sanctuary, how elephants live, etc. The work this sanctuary is doing to preserve this marvelous species and to prevent them from being abused is amazing. They planned different activities for us to interact with the elephants - we got to feed them bananas, we "cooked" them a nutritious meal and we played with them in the water and bathed them. At the end they provided outdoor showers and a delicious and nutrition home cooked meal. They even gave us swag! A little educational handbook and a tote bag! I left with my heart so full. I highly recommend! By giving them your business you are not only supporting the preservation and respectful treatment of these amazing animals but you are also supporting local economic development because they hire staff from the area. Thank you Elephant Jungle Sanctuary for an experience of a lifetime!

Fantastic trip. We were picked up from our hotel and taken to the sanctuary along with a lovely Dutch chap and his lovely sisters all of whom spoke fantastic English compared to our lack of Dutch! Our guide at the sanctuary was warm, funny and welcoming. We met and fed the elephants literally standing next to to them! They eat a lot!!!!! Then it was off to the river to bathe them which included a lot of throwing of water! Take spare clothes! Then into the mud pool to cover them in mud (and each other). Finally we enjoyed a simple but filling meal together before heading home. We did the afternoon half day trip. It was great, would recommend it and do it again.

An experience NOT to be missed while in Chiang Mai!!! My husband and I were so delighted with our half day tour among the Karen People who obviously have devoted their lives to caring for these majestic elephants in their sanctuary. We feel the cost is nominal for what's included! They you pick up & drop off at your hotel, provide you with water and an amazing meal (not just a snack) and plenty of interaction and photo opportunities with the elephants. There are toilets, clean water and showers on site, so no worries if you do the mud bath. You can participate or just watch and admire. The guides have a great sense of humour and wonderful disposition. It's a nice, laid back atmosphere. They explained a little how they care for the elephants and we participated in making their special meal to keep them healthy. These impressive creatures are very well taken care of here, it gives us a good feeling to know that someone is looking out for the abused and mistreated elephants. Don't hesitate to book a tour with any platform to this sanctuary. The cost you pay for your experience directly benefits the animals.

I spent a long time researching the best elephant sanctuary to visit whilst in Chiang Mai. There are so many and the word ethical is thrown around so often its hard to know which ones to believe but eventually I settled on the Walk with Elephants at Elephant Jungle Sanctuary, figuring that if it was a "bad one" at least the elephants had some time walking in their natural environment. I am so glad that I chose this sanctuary! The elephants are clearly loved and respected by the mahouts and staff and I think the elephants love it there too. There are no fences, the elephants are free to roam but choose to stay. They are gently guided by the mahouts with voice commands. I can't recommend the Walk with Elephants. Seeing them playing in their natural environment was amazing. I was amazed at how destructive they are and the baby was hilarious. The lunch was delicious too so big shout out the cooks! All in all I'm so happy I chose Elephant Jungle Sanctuary

An amazing experience and I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in seeing these beautiful animals up close. The elephants are well taken care of and seem very happy. We did a full-day; we were pick up at our hotel promptly at 8am, full day agenda and lunch/water was provided. The drive up to the sanctuary is about an 1.5 hours and full of bends but it's totally worth it! We spent a lot of time feeding, bathing, and playing with the elephants. The intent is definitely to increase awareness of the deminishing habitat and gather funds to help take care of the elephants but little to no education about the elephants themselves.

My visit was December 2016. There was renovation work going on at the time. I found it to be very interesting as I wondered around reading the information and looking at all the items on display. Some videos to watch also. Free entry which is always a winner. Any bags etc you put into a locker.

(Translated by Google) We visited the sanctuary in December 2019. At the start we were very enthusiastic about going to visit this "sanctuary" for elephants. The guides speak of a refuge where the elephants which were used for the logging of wood or the transport of the tourists can pass a peaceful retirement. This is definitely not the case. We were two and took the option of a full day on site. We were about forty people (only for the day option, so there are still many more people in total because other formulas exist). In the morning we visit three families of six elephants and the crowd of tourists taking selfies around them is anything but ethical and respectful. The pachyderms seem to be tranquilized so that as many people can touch them and interact with them. Very quickly we moved away from the group seeing these poor beasts undergo the desires of crazy instagramers. To secure the tourists, there is one trainer per elephant, therefore it is obvious that the elephants are not free of their actions. We asked ourselves the question of how elephants are treated when tourists are no longer present on site (at night for example) ... Without thinking much further, it is quite obvious that these "sanctuaries" represent a very lucrative commercial activity (40 people = 96000 baths) which push these organizations to make very intrusive mass visits for these animals, which place the ethics and eco-responsibility as selling points. Wouldn't it be more ethical and conscious to simply observe these animals evolving in their retirement sanctuary from a good distance? The initial idea was perhaps good but the situation of these elephants being part of this open air circus is it not of the same ilk ..? We are finally disappointed to have participated in this visit but it still allowed us to testify to our experience.

A fantastic experience. We went for the afternoon package. The sanctuary is quite a long drive away. We got there for around 1:30pm. We got to feed them bananas and bamboo. Then we made medicine balls for them and gave them to the elephants to eat. We then bathed them in mud and washed them in the river. A fantastic experience. The guide was also amazing, telling us their names where they were rescued from and facts about them.

Absolutely loved it! They picked us up at the hotel, we then took about a 1.5 hour ride to the sanctuary. We learned about them, fed bananas, then watched them all eat more and took more photos. We made medicine balls and fed them, then took them to the river to bathe. There were 5 elephants and one baby 2 year old elephant. At the end of the day we had a delicious lunch. The guides were very fun and funny, we loved our experience. Thank you!

Great Experience to connect with the elephants 🐘💕 It is a real ethical place that treat elephants well. We spent time with 4 of them. The visit will include feeding bananas then grass, making and feeding medicine balls then taking a shower and mud bath with elephants. The ride to the location is not the comfiest but bearable. If you are wearing hijab like me bring a hat to make sure scarf will not move. Also bring your swim suite or dry fit with an extra set of clothes and towel. Lunch is provided but if you are picky then bring some snacks.

It was our unforgettable experience in Chiang Mai with elephants. The staff (Thomas and Yang) were very entertained and welcomed all visitors. The air quality was horrible at the camp, so please be prepared to see that. We did half day morning session, and it was just the right amount of time for the activity. The food was alright and did not taste much. From overall experience, we would recommend others to do it!

We booked for an afternoon. Pick up was at 11:30 from the hotel . It was an hour long drive with 15 mins break in between . We reached the camp around 1. We were given basic instructions . First we started with feeding them banana . Then some grass . They went for a water break when we had a break too . Then we make immunity balls for them . We fed them . Then changed and took them for shower . Bathed them in the river , Gave them a mud scrub and then got ourselves cleaned . A good spread of food was served for us . With tasty pineapple and watermelon . A day well spent and a lot of pictures clicked .

This place was absolutely excellent! Our guide Juan was fantastic and funny. The people were great with the elephants. They were very friendly with them and didn’t force any of them to do anything. Elephants were very friendly. Bathing them was fun and so was the mud bath. Food was pretty good too! They give a good explanation of how they take care of elephants and why their work is important. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area. Please ignore some of the negative reviews on this place I feel as they are either for another sanctuary or simply not true. This place was fantastic.

So amazing! It was really great to be picked up at my hotel and have a drive into the mountains. We got to feed the elephants, play in the mud, and go to the river. They even cooked us a traditional Thai meal. It was a great way to see the surrounding mountain communities in Chaing Mai, and learn about the role elephants play in Thai life. I did a half day afternoon visit at camp 8. The experience was great and I think everyone should do it once in their life however I would probably not do it again. A lot of the time I felt was filler time. The actual interaction time with the elephants was maybe 2.5 hours. The ride there is also in those pickup trucks and about an hour so be prepared for that. I think the workers put in a lot of care and effort in taking care of the elephants and the elephants are definitely very loved by the workers.

Long but very honest review for the Elephant Jungle Sanctiary in Chiang Mai (half day, morning visit). We were picked up punctually at our hotel at 06:30 by a pickup truck. The drive to the park was absolutely fine - not as some people make it sound in the reviews here - yes, it was a bit bumpy towards the end for a couple of mins but it’s obviously hidden in the jungle and frankly we were too distracted by the beautiful scenery to even care (we even saw a water buffalo nearby!). Most of the ride is just via well maintained highway roads. There’s a break midway at a gas station but there’s also tea/coffee and fruit for breakfast at the sanctuary. The guides/mahouts (Donut and Faa) were incredibly kind and truly helpful and of course the elephants were just beyond stunning. There are 4 big ones, all female, and one baby elephant, a bull. You can go as close as you want and play with them as much as you want. By the end of our visit, we had learnt so much about elephants! We got to feed them bananas at the start, then watched them eat twigs as we stroked their thick skin and took even more pictures. We then made our own ball of food and fed it to them. It was then time to splash them in the little river nearby after which the elephants indulged in a mud bath as we rubbed even more mud onto them. All optional: you can also just observe everything and take pictures from afar. Also, at this sanctuary, they offer a photography service (for free!) and you can download your pictures afterwards off the Dropbox link on their Facebook page. So there’s always one mahout taking pictures for you so you don’t have to, but if you’d like to, you can do so yourself as well. I’d recommend leaving your slippers/sandals behind when going for the (mud) bath and to be mindful of the stones. You can also just safely leave your phone close to the lake on a bench, get out, take some pictures and continue to splash the elephants. Don’t forget to bring towels, a lot of sunscreen, a cap/hat, clothes to change into and a bag to put your wet clothes in. We brought our swimming clothes. You can take a shower there after the mud bath. This is then followed by lunch if you went for the morning visit like us. The food was very delicious and I even went for seconds. Lastly: how ethical is the sanctuary? All of the elephants in all their sanctuaries across Thailand are rescued elephants (either from gross elephant riding parks, circuses or from other abusive practices liked forced labor camps). I did not witness any abuse at any time and elephants would roam free at all times. The animals were never forced to do anything and we were told that the baths were going to take as long as the elephants wanted. As soon as one left the river to take a mud bath, the others would follow and bath time was over. The elephants certainly decided, very elephant-led. The only tourist-elephant interaction was at feeding time. I would recommend choosing EJS in Chiang Mai as they really care about the animals and your money will definitely go to a good cause. Fantastic half day Tour. Great Tour Guides, Very interactive experience with the Elephants. There ist a photographer, which will take photos for you, which you can download afterwards for free. They also have showers on site and the meal provided was very tasty. Can really recommend this tour to everyone, you will leave the camp with a big smile!!!

Had an amazing experience with the elephants for the whole day. They were free to roam and do what they wanted, which was lovely to see. The one thing that would have been nice to have was information on the elephants and the reason behind the sanctuary. We were told there names but that was all. Where as other sanctuaries will tell you the history behind each elephant which I find very interesting. I spent the day at camp 2, I just felt that there was way to many inappropriate jokes being made by the tour guide that clearly distressed some of the older guests and certainly would not be appropriate around children.

I can’t recommend this place more, they really take care of the elephants here. All proceeds goes towards the elephant and you spend an awesome day playing with them and learning about them. We did the half day tour and had so much fun, we even got to prepare a meal for the elephants, followed by washing them and then coating them in mud. A delicious lunch was also provided to us before we left. We had the most fun here in Chiang Mai and this should be the only elephant experience you do here

Amazing experience! I went the half day to Camp 3, there were 5 Elephants and we had an unforgettable experience together with 16 people. It is my first experience in this type of activities with animals integrated in nature and I can say everything looked good for them. People were really treating them with love! :)

I had the most wonderful experience at the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary here in Chiang Mai. It was educational, entertaining and incredibly rewarding. The elephants are clearly thriving in this environment, they love people as much as food and interact so beautifully, especially when they allow you to bathe with them. A big thumbs up to the wonderful staff for teaching us about the elephants and about the process of caring for them and for wonderful food and an amazing day!

Absolutely amazing experience. Yang and the other hosts went out of their way to provide a visit that was not only humorous and enjoyable, but extremely informative as well. I did the full day experience, and would definitely recommend it. Ethics are discussed at length when it comes to elephant sanctuaries, and I did a lot of research on this one before booking. These elephants are all rescues, and the great part about visiting them is, not only are you getting to spend time with them, but you’re helping them during your visit (feeding, bathing, providing medicine, etc.) I saw not one instance of abuse, and it’s obvious that the elephants love spending time with the team. Thai buffet was awesome, and the ride there and back was in a nice van as well. Would definitely do it again. Thanks guys!

From preparing their snacks and meals to bathing with them in the mud and the nearby river, it was a fun and education experience with my wife. The caretakers were kind and knowledgable in what they do day in and day out. It's nice to know that these elephants are protected from the tourism world of elephant riding. Definite no-no there. Aside from our new elephant friends, we met new people from around the world who took the tour with us. When visiting Chiang Mai, It's a must recommend activity for solo travelers and groups alike.

A real fantastic adventure. That are the real moments you will keep in mind. Don't be scared and really get into that elephant feeling. If so, you can have some really fantastic moments with that truly lovely animals. I can only recommend that. They do a real good job. Next time maybe I will book a full day.

The Sanctuary is a must-do when in Thailand! There are several locations throughout the country, this review is for the sanctuary in Phuket. These guys have a big heart for the gentle giants and their passion shows. The sanctuary gives you an up-close and personal experience, and a better appreciation for elephants. What unique, individual personalities these creatures have! I wish I had visited this sanctuary before attending other elephant camps, I can never ride any elephant in my life again. Transportation is a part of the package, meet at the designated pick-up/drop-off points. At the sanctuary we started with an informational session then made food for the elephants, fed them, gave them a mud scrub, and finally went "swimming" with them (really a bath). Free, secure lockers are provided if you don't want your things getting wet and muddy :) After the festivities, ample facilities are available to take a shower and change clothes. Choose between a half- or full-day tour package. A yummy Thai lunch came with the tour along with a complementary hill-tribe shirt. Very friendly staff. All kinds of Elephant Jungle Sanctuary merchandise can be purchased for a donation although this wasn't pushed on us.

Excellent place and mission. This is a real elephant sanctuary. Any that offer a chance to ride an elephant, thrilling as it may sound, are terrible beat the elephants into submission. Elephant Jungle Sanctuary has well over 100 elephants across many camps and they limit group sizes to ensure enjoyment and participation. What we got with general admission is: feeding the elephants gourds and bananas, petting them and taking photos with them, giving them a mud bath, and a final rinse in the pond. Lots of photo opportunities are available and are actively encouraged by the staff. The staff was energetic, informative, and friendly. They treat you to some local fare consisting of a lightly spicy chicken curry with potatoes and cauliflower, what I would consider a wet salad light stir fry, vegetable soup, and Thai omelette. Add-on: I opted for the private car for pickup and drop off. If you're in a hurry or don't want to sit in the back of a modified pickup truck the whole way there, this is the way to go. The driver was friendly and offered to stop anywhere we wanted along the route for snacks, photos, or bathroom.

If I could give them a 10 rating I would, it was an amazing day and something i will always remember!! I did the Full day package two years ago & still look at the pictures/video all the time! they pick you up from your hotel/hostel around 8am and drop you off around 5pm. ( they provide lunch and tea/coffee) You spend literally a few hours with different groups Elephants, you feed them, wash them see them mingle which each other. The staff were very friendly, and if like me you researched Elephant actives and read about all the negative stories trust me, you need see if for yourself and see it’s all not true. I didn’t any animals chained up, mistreated etc - If your thinking about doing this I advises you book it and you won’t be disappointed

Definitely do not agree with 1 star reviews... this was one of our favorite experiences during our trip to Thailand! We visited Camp 5 in Chiang Mai for a Morning visit and it was the perfect amount of time. You feed and spend with the elephants while learning about how the elephant santuary cares for the animals and partners with the local community. Bonus: a photographer takes pictures of your visit and posts them, all included with the experience. Would definitely recommend!

Full day walk with elephants Wow! Just wow! Definately an experience to be done! Just book it! You will not be disappointed! If you want to know more - read on! The Elephant jungle sanctuary is an ethical enterprise that has rescued the elephants from logging camps and other such places. The elephants are free to roam in the camp, and are not taught any tricks or such like. They also employ locals in the villages and help them sustain a better life. They have 9 camps, so you can end up at any of them. But they are all brilliant. We were at camp 8 with Pop and Vah as our guides. They started with an informative explanation of the day, how the elephants came to be there and what to expect of them. First activity was feeding. It is a great way to get used to these majestic creatures. We were feeding them watermelon by hand which allows you to get up close and personal, get a feel for them and bond with them. Each elephant has a mahout (elephant trainer/keeper) who are always nearby - especially with the more cheeky young males! But they have such an amazing bond with their elephant it is great to watch. Once you have bonded with them and feed them about 250kgs of watermelon it is off for a walk/trek through the jungle. This is a fantastic way of watching how they interact with eachother and seeing them more in their natural habitat. It is a bit uneven and hilly, but it is a jungle! We had a walking group from the UK with us, some of which were in their 80s and one was nearly completely blind - go out is not too strenuous. You literally walk in amongst the elephants who are so majestic and gentle. It is amazing! After walking for around 45 minutes to 1 hour, it is back to the camp for your lunch. Lunch is a buffet style lunch of chicken & potato stew, fried vegetables, omelette, rice and fresh fruit. Water, tea & coffee are included. There was a small kiosk to buy soft drinks (coke etc 30baht-75p, beer 60baht-£1.50) You could also pick up some all carvings and souvenirs, made locally. After lunch there was a 30 minute break where you could rest/lay down on a raised bed, or just take in the sights. After this it was time to make some herbal vitamin balls for the elephants, learning what nutrients etc they need to help keep them healthy. Then it is hand feeding the elephants what you have made. Now it was time for a mud bath. For everyone! You were given time to change into swim wear - wear something dark or something you do not mind getting ruined - free mud can stain some clothing. Once changed you head down to the mud bath and help the elephants clean themselves using the mud to exfoliate and manage their body temperature. This is an amazing experience. You are in the water with them helping scrub their skin/hide whilst a photographer takes pictures. Again watching the bond between mahout and elephant is truly wonderful! This activity is done until the elephants have had enough, and start walking off to the river. When that happens you again head down with them to the river, and help rinse off the mud. It was an amazing experience, the guides and mahout making it even better! Again the river party parts as long as the elephants want it to. When they have had enough. That's it. Time to get out. Then you head up to the camp, wash & and back into your clothes. We were lucky and they took us home via camp 6, as they had a 3 month old baby elephant (lufas) and we got to meet him. From there you get your free shirt, and head home! It was a memorable day, absolutely amazing. Memories were made to cherish forever!

(Translated by Google) We spent half an afternoon yesterday at the Elephant Jungle Sancuary and it was really a great day. We were initially rather skeptical about 1) the enormous range from different providers and 2) due to the many completely different recessions. After a lot of research, we decided on this provider and that was a good thing. The provider has 3 or 4 locations in Thailand. We were in ChiangMai (there are a total of 9 elephant camps). We were in Champ 9. The 8 elephants were doing very well there (as far as we can judge it as a layman) and the zookeepers also handled the animals well. None of the animals were forced to do anything. It was a really great experience. We were also informed that different camps are approached every day so that the animals get enough rest and are not overcrowded. The trip from ChiangMai takes about 1.5 - 2h on a semi-open pickup (it is a bit adventurous but basically not a problem - roughly like the red trucks from the city, only with one flap in the back so that you cannot fall out). You have to be aware that the means of transport in Thailand are simply different than in Europe or anywhere else;) We would definitely repeat the program and think half a day is enough.

(Translated by Google) I put a star because otherwise I can not leave the comment. It was not what we expected, the elephants are not free, they are conditioned to perform the same circuit more than once a day. Feed them, fill them with mud and then bathe them. Just when we were leaving another group arrived. I was very sad to see them like this .. If the elephant wanted to get away from me they forced him to stay. They kept asking me to take pictures with them when I didn't want to. I walked away and didn't want to continue with the experience. They explain nothing of their salvation and there is no veterinarian. I do not recommend it at all. I regret paying for this. I left crying home and regretful. Had the half day tour. Didn't have a good impression. The treatment for elefants is probably better than other places like a circus. In case of rescued animals it seems ok. But I'd prefer to see animals in a more natural behavior. Elefants have to do a scheduled sequence of things for tourists like eat seat and laid in a mud pool (pretty much like a dog). Also the pickup van wasn't good, u have to seat in the back of a truck, no security for road and very hot.

Had an amazing time. Great place with ethical treatment of the animals. They clearly love the elephants and there is no mistreatment or abuse of these elephants. It is not a riding camp so I highly recommend this place if you want to see happy elephants in nature. Our guides were amazing and make sure we learn something while feeding and playing with these majestic animals. We were in camp 8, on February 9th for a half day trip and it was amazing. Would very much recomend this place so you dont have to worry about anything deviant about the treatment of the elephants.

I liked the museum because it does a good job of explaining to a forener the lst 3 to 400 years of history in Thailand. The artifacts were mostly potery and wood. I expected to see more xrystal and gold artifacts. I thought the presentation was done well and the descriptions were a little lacking. The exhibit on ancient man Is out of date a we know more about our past now that that would challenge how we lived 10000 years ago but that is not what the museum is realy about. I would recommend seeing if you are in Chiang Mia.

(Translated by Google) Admission is 100 Baht. I think this is my first step to understanding Chiang Mai and Lanna. There is a drawback, however, that it is too far. It's amazing that the wooden artifacts are fairly well preserved.

This is an excellent place to experience a truly caring elephant sanctuary. They teach you so many things about these absolutley beautiful creatures. You get to feed them, give them a mud bath and then take them down to the river for a final rinse. 100% ethical, no elephant riding. They even provided a traditional style dish at the end that was delicious.

We did a afternoon day tour from 11:30 to 5:30pm. Hotel pick up in a songthiew which was a great experience. The ride was about 1.5 hour with all the pick ups. The jungle sanctuary was very informative and the elephants were really friendly! We were given time for feeding the elephants in camp 8, pictures, mud bath and jumping into the rivers with the elephants. Finished the day with a buffet lunch/dinner. They are on a mission to save more elephants, Would highly recommend!

It was 1.5h drive south of Chiang Mai to the elephant sanctuary. At the sanctuary, you will feed, bathe and give a mud spa to the elephants. Be prepared to get down and dirty, and prepare a change of clothes. Also, wear sandals that you can wear into water and mud. Avoid wearing shoes. I feel that the itinerary can be more compact (afternoon session 1130-1830h), but it might be because they want to make the 3 hours journey back and forth worth it. The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because it was raining quite heavily on the journey to the camp. However, the vehicle was open air and only had plastic flaps which didn’t really keep the rain out.

This was by far my best day in Thailand! Such an amazing experience I would recommend to everyone. Our guide was very funny. The lunch was very good and the time with the elephants was amazing. We did a half day and it was plenty of time.

Up close experience with the elephants. We were at camp 1 and there was a baby elephant amongst the 4 adults . We could feed them banana, made vitamin balls (made of banana, some vege, fermented fruit) and even bathe them. Very lovely experience. The jeep came at 645am, and we arrived 1.5 hours late at the sanctuary. The ride is a little bumpy, so sit in front if u have a choice! We were seated at the back, facing sideways. Lunch was provided too - curry chicken, stir fried vege, rice, fries and fruits

Amazing experience, everything is well explained, plenty of time to take pictures. The food included was very good too. Due to the long way to the sanctuary I would suggest to book a full day in order to spend more time there.

We did the morning half day experience and it was great. Very well organized; had very timely hotel pickup and nice van for the ride. This experience was nothing I could have ever imagined! We were able to interact with, feed, and bathe the elephants throughout the experience and I couldn’t have been more elated. Thank you EJS!
