Great trail. We walked from the city to Wat Pha Lat temple and it was quite easy trail. Yes, you have to walk up the hill, but nothing extreme. The temple is gorgeous, it's located in the middle of the forest and it's so calm and quiet. Great place to meditate. After that you can continue to walk to the second more famous temple but it's more steep than first part and in my opinion the temple isn't worth it. On the way down you can catch the red truck (public transport) - it costs 50-100 THB/person to the city center.

Really nice hike up to the temple - would recommend bringing bug spray and a waterproof jacket, particularly if visiting in the rainy season as we did! The hike is fairly uneven underfoot but relatively easy and not very long. Temple at the top is definitely worth it - really impressive views and the temple itself is amazing. Stayed here for ages, really nice place to sit and relax after the hike, and very peaceful.

This is a nice place to hike. It's a quick hike not that steep but several places with uneven terrain. Can get slippery from dew so be careful. Along the trail there are a few small waterfalls. The sign says a bird watching trail but we couldn't find it. You really get a feel of being in the jungle on this trail. At the top you have nice views of the city, waterfalls and lots of Nature areas to explore. The temple looks very old and Indiana Jones vibe. Tip: you can park your car or motorbike at the trail head but space is limited. During high traffic times you can park by the Basecamp Coffee House and hike from there. You should be able to get up & out in 1.5hrs. If you have not been you here you should try it. Enjoy!

My son who is nine and I walked up this almost 3 km trail to the top. We were wearing flip-flops and it was a little muddy that day. Would probably wear proper footwear the next time though flip-flops we’re not an issue. The temple at the top is wonderful with some vendors selling water and food. You can also get a taxi from the top to go back down.

Was not expecting such a difficult hike in all fairness, it’s pretty steep so take water although if you go from the bottom of the loop and park the bike at the entrance you can hike up there and there is places to buy drinks. There is no signs at the bottom but it is VERY STRICT on clothes. Men are okay in shorts and t shirt but women MUST be covered so make sure to bring something with you or dress appropriately. You can buy a scarf which will cover you at the top for 200baht like I did( but the man has to go get it so if you’re on your own as a female you’re out of luck!). Beautiful temples, scenery, monks or acting meditation & not too busy. There should definitely be a sign regarding clothing at the bottom entrance though.

Awesome hike! I did the out and back option, combining with the Doi Suthep Hike (2-3 hours total between the two with a little time for sightseeing). The total distance is right at 10K in total (starting from the Basecamp Cafe just up the road). If you'd like a video summary of the entire hike, check out the 1-min highlight footage on my YouTube page: https://youtu.be/tUfboRo13pQ?si=Yh_6D1FEcNf7IOY8

Good hike for beginners but it is a bit slippery. On the top you will see the most peaceful and beautiful temple you have ever seen. It was amazing to see this. It is definitely worth the hike.

The first 10 mins on the trail are quite rocky but it smoothes out a bit after that. It's about a 20-25 hike up the path which is ideal for someone who doesn't regularly walk trails as it is not to difficult. When you ascend to the top, you will find beautifully cared for gardens and cascading water flowing down the rocks. The buildings and temples are simple but beautiful. We seen lots of very pleasant monks on the grounds going about their daily routines. The place was not too crowded early morning, just a handful of visitors which made it more pleasant. One extra thing I liked about this place is that it wasn't full of donation and collection boxes at every glance making the place feeling a little less commercial which was good.

It’s an easy hike up to Wat Pha Lat (the first temple). Begin at Chiangmai University, the path goes up a little dirt road, soon you’ll see the little map. The journey to Wat Pha Lat takes about 45 mins leisurely The hike up to Wat Phra That (the second temple) is a little challenging with incline, find the path up from the right of the waters at the back of Wat Pha Lat and keep going up, past the guard rail, across the road and back into the jungle. About 1-2hrs journey upwards to Wat Phra That from the first temple. When you’re up, there are red songthaews available to take you back down to the city!

I really enjoyed this trail. It’s an easy to medium hike up to the first temple. You will want proper walking shoes, and if it’s raining be careful as it can be slippery. I am at a decent fitness level and did it without problems in 40 minutes. If you want to go up to the next big temple be warned, that second trail is much steeper and definitely give yourself more time and bring water. If you don’t want to hike the second part there are the red tuk tuk taxis to take you up.

The off-road trek is somewhat tough but not impossible. Well worth it at the top. Serene temple with sounds of water flowing, nice scenery. Visitors should practise good behaviour and respect and not to treat this holy place as a playground.

The first part of the hike was easy/medium difficulty and led to a gorgeous serene temple overlooking the old town. A waterfall and water running through it. For the second part it’s a bit of a tougher scramble up to the road, across the road and up a steep 40 minute trail to get to Doi Suthep. Very rewarding hike.

Enjoyable trail for those that like a gentle hike. Wear shoe as the ground is uneven with steps. Bring water as there are no sellers on the way or at the temple. If like me the destination is sweeter when you’ve make some effort and have been amongst nature you’ll enjoy. If not take a taxi direct to the temple itself.

Actually, this point of route is the starting point to reach Buddhist monk’s temple. The old photo of a building did not exist at this point. You will need to walk around 1 hour for slow walker to see the building. We looked at the photo in the Google map. We thought it exists there. There is no food shop or other things through the trail. You must bring your food. It is a great and stunning nature throughout the route.

We walked up from the road instead of getting transport to the start of the trail. Road is steep. The trail to Wat Pha Lat is moderate. We also continued up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. The second part is really really steep. Would be great if the local government considers to put up proper signages.since the two parts of the trail are broken up by road etc.

It’s a really nice trail! Very easy for everyone. We started at 8 and the weather was very comfy. By 10 o clock the temple is getting quite busy, so it’s better to come in the morning to take nice pictures. Highly recommend! If the trail seems easy, you can take the second part and go to Doi Suthep trail. The second part is more difficult and hardly works for everyone. So, take care!

The 45-minute hike to the temple was well worth it. The temple itself is beautiful and majestic, isolated in and amongst the beautiful backdrop of nature. There are on-going meditations, or so one of the signs says, so the only sounds you hear are of nature. A short trek from the temple grounds is the main road which you can call a taxi or grab from if all the exploring had left you spent. The trail to the temple is fairly well marked.

Excellent trail in the forest leading up to the temple. It took us about 30 minutes at a reasonable pace. The trail is well traced, there is no chance to get lost. We read that it was best to wake up very early to avoid the heat. We did it midday and we were fine. Being in the forest, you avoid the sun anyway.

A nice and enjoyable hike. The second half is a bit more challenging, but completely doable. The temples both in the middle of the hike and at its end are worth seeing.

Great trail through the woods to Wat Pha Lad. If you plan to go to the temple, make sure to dress appropriately (or carry clothing with you to put on - see photos for requirements). Hiking shoes are best, as the trail is rocky. Note the sign that says 2 temples are not far, but Wat Pha Lad takes only 5 minutes (nice view of Chiang Mai too!) and Wat Anagami takes 30 minutes! We tried to find the other half of the red loop from Wat Pha Lad but weren't able to locate it. Heading up to the Doi Suthep trail was quite rocky. We ended up turning around and going back the way we came. Still a nice hike in the woods! Could be muddy/ slippery when raining. There is limited parking on the road by the trail head. We also saw a dead scorpion on the trail, so be careful!

Amazing and very easy hike (around 40 minutes, didn’t cause trouble to beginners hikers). It will end on a beautiful view of Chiang Mai and the hidden temple of Pha Lat. You will find so much beautiful vegetation and even some waterfalls while hiking ! Highly recommend this activity in Chiang Mai !

Great place Not to hard Recommend to start at one point and ask the driver to wait for you at the end. I would even recommend to start at the bottom as the top is the amazing ending for this walk. Very cute dogs around,so bring some dog threats with you, then you might have a dog guide like we did! He walked with us all the way and waited for us every time we stopped to take pictures! Be nice to them ! It’s possible to take there bolt and to order to the end another one.

Awesome hike that starts in town taking you all the way to to top of Doi Suthep. First half up to the first temple is easier. This temple is less crowded, and with beautiful water features. The second half of the hike is steep and very muddy during the rainy season.

Nice hiking trail to Wat Pha Lat. It was not too hard, but I would recommend wearing shoes or firm sandals instead of flipflops. Some parts of the route are kind of steep and there are some loose rocks. The scenery is very nice and the temple complex is definately worth it! You can continue the monk's trail to Wat Doi Suthep. This part of the trail is a bit more challenging and a bit longer. We thought the temple itself was a bit disappointing, but the view is stunning!

(Translated by Google) From the beginning, we walk comfortably, the path is flat, not steep, not tired, not too far away until reaching the second temple, from the temple up, very short but very steep, the legs down here are tense. The third phase is playing with cramps to eat. But now the 3-way distance is closed, check with the park, they say, normally this is not the path that the park allows to walk. I've hiked in Chiang Mai before but this is the first time I tried the Monk's Trail. It's an easy 45-minute hike to Wat Pha Lat temple grounds where you'll find tranquility amidst towering bamboo groves and greenery. No need for a guide. I love this trail as it offers a serene escape from crowds, devoid of shops and food stalls!! The trail and temple grounds are well maintained. To ensure a comfortable journey, bring your own water and snacks. To get there, head to the end of Suthep Road, near Chiang Mai University. Note that on our descent, we turned left towards the river to cool off. P.S. Make sure to bring a sarong to cover up when you enter the temple grounds.

I went 90mins before sunset. The hike is great. Mix of rocky parts, mud and roots from trees. Stop and look at the details! Can easily run down, which is a fun way to go back. The challenge of trusting your feet! :) There’s an extraordinary peace at the pools where you can see a single Naga (dragon), (if you stop to meditate for a bit) Also up on the side of the waterfall there are a few small ledges built into the rock, facing the jungle especially for that. Lots of whispers from friendly spirits up here.

A very popular trail with walkers trough out the day, so there is not much fear of getting lost. Not far from town and easy to get to with a motorcycle. Park at the start of the trail near the map and rubbish area. Nice to get out and have a walk in the lush greenery. Great for beginners, easy hour or so walk.

Good hike through the off beaten track through some thick over growth. Hike was approx 1.5-2hr though humid weather so wasn’t comfortable although the trail itself was great. I would add that you will have to continue over a busy highway passed Wat Pha Lat to get to the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep which is a further 30 hike. This would mean you enter the site at the monks living quarters and bypass paying an entrance fee into to the temple complex. Well worth it!

Definitely worth a 30-45 mins hike up to see the temple. There are quite bit of shady spots along the way to take a breather. At the temple you will see a somewhat restricted but still beautiful view of Chiang Mai, and the commercial planes taking off. If you are getting to the start point by grab, on the way down, you may need to walk another 1-2km to the village at the bottom of the hill to get a ride back. If lucky you would see a songthaew but they are unlikely to give you a fair rate back given there are no other options than to walk. At the end of the 1-2 there is a brand new trail cafe to replenish your lost fluids and energy.

Incredible hike and beautiful temple. We got caught in a rainstorm at the top and watched as the water poured down the mountain and the trail we’d just ascended — there are people offering taxi rides back down to Chiang Mai at the road at the top, which we did since it was so muddy. Hike was not too strenuous though the trail was rocky and covered with big tree roots at times. Covering shoulders and knees is a must to be respectful as it is a religious site.
