Love this place and spent over an hour here. Once up at the Temple a sign asks you to purchase an entry ticket, but there's no one staffing the ticket office. Great views over the valley and Chiang Mai, and a lovely Temple with many shrines. Fairly quiet when I was there around 9.30am and nice and cool. Before you get to the Temple there are many stalls selling local crafts and beverages. Lots of spaces available for motorcycle parking.

Lovely place - entrance is 30 baht per person for anyone who is not Thai. It's lovely to see how others practice their faith. Though I felt like I was encroaching on their spiritual space at times. There's an observation deck on the far side (check satellite view if you get lost like we did) with a gorgeous view of the city including the airport.

This temple was highly recommended by the locals in Chiang Mai. We made our way by taxi to the hilltop temple. There were many stray dogs along the way. When we reached the temple, there were numerous vendors near the entrance. We climbed 309 steps to reach the temple. For a small entrance fee, we made our way in. Shoes can not be worn, and women can not show their shoulders or legs. So dress accordingly. I carried a lightweight gauze type shawl and wore long sun dresses during my visit just so I wouldn't be denied access anywhere. I had never been in a temple prior to this. It was beautiful with the morning sun shining on the gold structures, monks praying, offerings, flowers, incense, water, candles, and bells. We spent hours wandering through the property. It's burning season in January, so the views were hazy.

We chose this place for two reasons. One, it's away from the city of Chiang Mai and second it's on the hills. There are few waterfalls on the way, which was another attraction. Usually religious shrines are constructed atop hills or remote areas which are difficult to negotiate by people with disabilities. This one is no exception. But don't feel disheartened, they have lifts. It's an inclined lift installed on the hill slope. It feels nice to travel in these. As for the shrine, it's very nice. All the domes are heavily decorated with gold (as they said). I saw a lady pasting gold foils on the wall. Upon my query, she emphatically said that those are real gold foils. That explains why the domes of the temples shine so much. All Buddhist temples in Thailand are big and very well maintained. There's a sense of tranquility around. There are a few small temples with just one or two deities and there are some temples where you find multiple deities. On one building we spotted the symbols of Chinese months - rooster, mouse, horse, snake etc. I loved tapping the big gongs and bells. They are at the entrance to the shrine, huge metal castings. The sound produced by simple thumping is so calming, so heavenly.

This is a splendid temple to visit. It's just breath taking when you visit the temple grounds. The areas surrounding the main temple is also worth looking at. There are many souvenir shops and small food stalls selling food and drinks outside the temple.

We took a taxi from our hotel 200 bhat. Early morning, around 5:30 so we can see the sunrise. Was perfect. Only few people, beautiful sunrise, roam around and then going back around 8 am, people started coming in crowds. Happy we had our quite time there.

A beautiful temple with lovely views from the observation deck. We were welcomed by friendly monks who will offer you a blessing regardless of your religion. There is plenty of peaceful seating areas to rest and meditate. However, the temple itself is probably not as memorable as other temples in Chiang Mai.

Beautiful temple and cultural icon. There’s great QR codes everywhere where you can learn about the temples, history and statue meanings. It’s a bit of a hike up the stairs but it’s only a 5min walk so low to moderate fitness would be ok if you’re ok with stairs. If you have injuries or aren’t adept with a large flight of stairs, there is the chair lift but I didn’t try it so not sure what it’s like. There’s a bathroom located to the right near the chair lifts and again up at the top, both are free. Though take toilet paper, there’s none upon arrival. There are heaps of vendors around but please be respectful of the sacred place, no shoulders, knees or shoes are allowed in the temple and there are more cultural things to be mindful especially in the presence of monks. Plus, don’t ring the bells. All in all, it’s a calm serene place for worship and appreciation. The prices are reasonable, 30B to get in if you’re a foreigner and water is 10B. Anything else there’s plenty of vendors who could use the support post covid. It must’ve been a hard time for them but as always they’re all really sweet and lovely. I’ve been here twice now, the views alone are stunning, would absolutely recommend to come here.

Must visit place if you are in Chiang Mai. If you like DRIVING, take a motor bike or rent. (Available from 200 to 500 per day) and drive. It will sure give you a wonderful experience. From the 2nd km of from the the base you will feel a cool wind on your face. Drive to peak and you can come back to the temple. View is excellent from the top. You can see the whole city from there. Attached few photos for your references

A temple of extraordinary beauty and monastery for those who wish to learn about meditation. You can walk around and see the city from the view point (if there is no burning). A lot if people visiting this temple but if you go early in the morning you get to enjoy it in peace. There are some steps but it's not bad. Anyone can do it. For foreigners donation is 30 baht. You can receive a blessing here as well.

probably the most tourist visited temples in Chiangmai. I been here 4 times+ and many photos taken. this hillside temple has a completed and well-maintained Buddhist architectural setting, especially the pagoda and the four preaching halls around, they are just magnificent and are full of details. suggested to come with someone who knows the Thai Buddhism, otherwise may miss some interesting stories. if time allowed, stay till the preaching hour of the monks in the early evening ! during outbreak, not many tourists, but check opening hours/days before visit; plan at least 2 hours.

Beautiful Temple with fine art. Very old and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Chiang Mai, Thailand. A must visit just after the Chiang Mai Zoo. If you have a group then transportation costs 500 up and 500 down. Vehicle can take around 8 persons. Cost of going to the temple via lift and entering the temple costs 50 total per person.

Amazing place with an amazing history. I was fascinated by the 11km trip up the mountain just to get to the temple. We had a great tour guide who was able to reach us so much about the temple. The views that you have of Chiang Mai from the top are unlike anything else.

Entry costs 30 baht, Thais rightly don't pay. The environment is very beautiful and pleasant to walk around. It is possible to be blessed by the monk. It's a great experience to try at least once.

Please avoid driving a car or scooter unless you have a Thai driving licence. There are police check posts on the route. You might be required to pay the fine and might still not be prohibited from driving. Pros 1. It is a beautiful thai temple. 2. Free parking on the street 3. There is a lift for 20 THB per person if you don't want to try 300+ stairs. 4. It is also a view point for Chiang Mai city. Depending on the weather you might observe a panoramic view of the whole city. Considerations 1. Wear full length clothes 2. The road is steep and curved. Please consider the fact before choosing to drive a car. 3. Visiting this place might take most of the day, it will take around 5 hours including travel time. 4. The temple gets crowded at times 5. The parking might be hard to find near the temple. You might be required to walk 500 meters or more

Another beautiful temple in Chiangmai that’s worth the visit. You the entire temple and it’s architecture is beautiful. You have to take the stairs though. It wasn’t very crowded when I visited. You can also get a beautiful view of Chiangmai on top. There many shops for souvenirs and food at the entrance of the place

Probably THE best temple I’ve ever visited in Thailand. We went there a bit late and many monks were praying loudly, giving an original atmosphere to the place. The diverse constructions are very beautiful, and the viewpoint is breathtaking. It was definitely worth the hundreds of steps to reach the place ! Entry fee is 30 bahts, not expensive compared to some other temples.

One of the coolest temples we’ve seen in Thailand, long way up and get a really beautiful view once there. It’s 30 baht to get in but if you find someone who’s just been and ask them for the ticket. The steps up the temple are amazing in itself, photos below hit me up. @banhamimages

very touristic. i mean really packed with people. best time to go is weekdays early morning. then you're less annoyed by the vendors and the so called guides. free entrance for Thai people and 30 Baht for foreigners. everything is shining in there, i don't know where's the faith but as long as it pleases many people... the view of the city on clear days is nice and the road to the top is pleasant.

The best time to visit is between 4-5pm. It is too hot at 12-4. The sunset starts around 6. The wind cools down and you can see the fantastic night view. By the way, the toilet is right in front of the ticket office. It's free.

Definitely recommend when you're in Chiang Mai. We felt very light headed when we got to the top so sit down for a bit if you feel like this. We paid our respects and enjoyed the grounds around this temple.

Make sure to go early to this temple! We were able to avoid the crowds and largely had this place to ourselves. We were also able to see the sea of clouds going up the mountain. Highly recommend just hiring out a songthaew up the mountain. We found one via our homestay and it was the best decision ever. We didn't have to worry about anything and he was so nice and able to take us wherever we wanted! Note: Visited prior to COVID, so things may be different.

It was very beautiful and large temple with a fantastic view of Chiang Mai. I would 100% recommend going at night - it’s more beautiful that way! We took the cable car up and it was a complete waste of time and money(!) — take the beautiful stairs. Especially at night it’s really easy and not too warm! The temple itself is very gold… we enjoyed the platform with the view over Chiang Mai and the stairs the most

I came here early Saturday raining morning, so there was no crowd. For those are unable to climb the stairs, the funicular cost THB 20 round trip. The temple is very grand. To appreciate it’s history and culture, it is probably better to engage a tour guide. I saw a giant centipede, and thank goodness didn’t step on it bare footed.

This lovely temple area is located around 35 minutes from the center of Chiang Mai, well worth the visit with some incredible nice views. There's a dragon inspired 300 steps path way leading up to the hill where the temple is located. There's currently no entrance fee charged for entering this temple grounds.

  • 5/5 Kate H. 5 months ago on Google
When you arrive at the base of the temple there are lots of shops selling food, drink and gifts to buy. You reach a staircase with beautiful dragons on each side of a long set of stairs leading up to the temple itself. It cost 30 bhat for foreigners to visit, and the tickets are sold just before you enter the temple complex. There are toilets at the top and what looks like places to buy drinks but they were closed when we visited in the evening. You get some beautiful panoramic views of the city and around 5.30 pm there was a beautiful ceremony and blessing that we were lucky to catch. Would recommend a visit.

I loved this temple. You feel so calm here. So much to see in such a relatively small place. Details, details and again details. Visit the place, look around, and then take another look, and another. And every time there’ll be something new, fascinating.

One of the more impressive golden temples near Chiang-Mai. It's neat the summit of the mountains West of Chiang-Mai. There is a small town near the temple with many taxis to carry passengers back to Chiang-Mai for about 100Baht, when in small groups or more for a solo passenger. At the bottom of the temple there are lots of stalls selling bells and souvenirs but you need to bargain as their first price is too high. To reach the temple you can walk up a long 100+ stair case for free, or take a lift for about 50Baht. Entry to the temple is 30Baht paid at the top of the stairs. You can also get a view of the Chiang-Mai Valley below, though the haze obscures the view sometimes. This temple is worth a visit albeit it's 17 km from Chiang-Mai. Enjoy.

The most popular cultural travel destination is Chiang mai. If you are first year student in CMU, you will worship at Buddhist temple. In the temple , there are many beautiful ancients of Buddhist that perform the northern culture. The center of this temple is Buddha relics, it is the spiritual center of Buddhists.

Visited here in March, 2017. Supposedly this sacred temple has been rooted in this community for centuries. That's exactly why tourists like visiting here over a great distance. It is definitely worth coming here all the way from Chiang Mai, or even Bangkok. Wherever you depart, you'll have to go through winding roads in the mountain, and this is the thing I wanna warn if you are gonna visit here. What I mean is motion sickness, and when coming here, I used a shared taxi in which I saw other passengers seemingly get serious motion sickness. The place itself is of course cool and what I felt and saw are the best among all experiences in my trip to Thailand.

Chilly weather as it was high up on the mountains. Serene atmosphere above here to appreciate the majestic architecture. Thise interested could also walk around the main chedi while praying a chant, or else, you could just admire the architecture. Price for the funicular up is 20 Baht. If you want a challenge, you could walk up the steps too! Come earlier in the morning as it might get busy towards noon

You can climb their staircase or buy ticket for cabel car service to go the temple on the hill. Can see the chiang mai town view on top. Get the monk blessing by knee down infront of them and put your hand together, and put 20baht to them.

This temple is beautiful 😍 The view on the mountain is also great. Around the temple, there are many souvenir shops. Make sure to bargain with them because no fixed prices. For men, we are allowed to wear shorts and singlets with my shoulders uncovered. But for women, please be careful because the rules in this temple are strict. It's like most of temples in the old city in Ching Mai. Simply follow the rules and respect the culture.

There is the place you could never miss to put in your travel list. I recommend you to visit in early winter or middle of winter. You can see a lot of beautiful northern Thailand traditional structure and Buddhism temple with fresh air and one of the most beautiful city view.

Amazing temple and pretty epic drive up Doi Suthep. The temple is peaceful and calming even though it's a popular tourist attraction. If like me the 306 steps up to the temple in 30° heat and crowds is somewhat daunting, take the funicular train for 50B return, which includes the 30B entrance. Look for the ATM signs to the right of the main entrance, go up a few steps and the kiosk to get the funicular tickets is right there. Was also less crowded.

  • 5/5 Sabur I. 1 year ago on Google
The temple itself was nice but the journey to the temple and the views were worth it! I would also like to call out the local shops in the immediate area had some of the best prices in the city. If you're looking for Jade, Jade For You, has extremely nice, high value pieces, and complimentary coffee that's amazing!

The immenent temple to visit when in Chiangmai, familiarise yourself with the history and origins of Doi Suthep to truely appreciate the significance of this place. Take the flight of twin dragon steps all the way up and make your payment for entry (foreigners only). Take your shoes off and use the lockers when making your way into the main quarters. Donate money in exchange for floral offerings to be placed around the temple. Make it to the back to get a bird's eye view of the old town.

  • 4/5 Kobun R. 1 year ago on Google
Very nice buddha temple with the long historical stories, popular for tourist both Thai and Foreign tourist, best time to be there you can visit the whole year especially the winter in Thailand.

  • 3/5 Stefan B. 1 year ago on Google
Temple looks good, view of the city from the terrace as well. Of course on the way to the temple there is a myriad of vendors, making you feel like you are in Disneyland, not a spiritual place. And when you get to the temple itself, I have never seen so many donation boxes in my life. Every square meter must have had one. There was wall full of them. Like postal boxes in an apartment house, but with “insert purpose of donation” instead of names. Not a good look…
