The kerela parata is the best. I have been traveling in Thailand for over month and was missing my desi fix. So I went on google and was searching for indian restaurants in the vicinity and came across Chai n Thai. The moment you see the store from the street you get the Desi vibes. The store is a quiet small place with ample seating spaces. They have home made pickles near the counter which you can buy. They have an extensive menu with all Indian food items. I had the malabar chicken biryani and the first mouth I took was perfect had all the right spices and it reminded me of the biryani I had in Kerela. The tandoori chicken was on point and went well with the parantha. The filter coffee however was not filter coffee you get in Chennai, but it's not bad either. Overall an amazing place and must visit if you are in Chiang Mai.

Excellent, affordable Indian food in the heart of Nimman. Ann, our server, was patient and kind when explaining some of the menu to us. We had tandoori chicken, butter chicken, naan, and several other items. Each was flavorful and nicely presented. We will definitely return.

Finally, our Dosa cravings have been satisfied. As shown, we were too busy enjoying the food that we forgot to take pictures of some of the dishes when it first arrived. Will definitely come back for more. Highly recommend chicken dosa. Yum!

Loved this little restaurant. The food was cooked to order and very deliciously authentic, prepared by 2 Indian chefs. You can see them preparing the food in the kitchen. The ambiance was great and the service was fantastic. My husband said the chicken samosas were the best he’d ever had! Loved it here, especially my masala tea. We will definitely be back and will be bringing friends.

Great delicious South Indian Kerala cuisine. Staff are friendly and always helpful... The owner happened to be at the store and was very patiently explaining each dish we enquired. He was even guiding us how to take our portion of the biryani best!

Today went to this Indian restaurant for dinner and Onam celebration. It was an amazing atmosphere. They had great live music and I met the owners who were very friendly and nice. The food was great. Will go again. The menu looks great though they didn't have the normal menu today due to onam festival.

Huge recommendation to this indian restaurant. The food is so tasty and staff are very helpful and nice. We got the butter chicken (160 baht), chicken takatak (180 baht), tawa roti (25 baht), garlic naan (50 baht), and plain rice rice. Everything was super great - we will definitely come again!

They have a large selection of north and south Indian food here. I liked the taste of the veg biryani, it was done right, flavorful but not spicy. The ambience was chill. The crowd was mostly foreign (I was surprised that many of them were ordering South Indian dishes and some of them knew the ingredients too) and overall it was a nice vibe. I'll come back for more.

came here with a group of 22 people and had the best time! this may be the best food I’ve had in Thailand so far, and certainly some of the only South Indian food around! Not to mention, a beautiful atmosphere with several murals done by a local artist. The staff was so accommodating and we were able to meet everyone ❤️ including Sonia, the talented head chef and J.K. the owner. They even helped us pick the best food combinations 😋

Wow!! Our new favorite Indian restaurant in Chiang Mai!! We had dinner here for the first time and the recommendations from our friends were spot on. The menu had tons of choices, with both Southern and Northern Indian cuisine and lots of vegan and vegetarian options for us! They serve Indian, American, and Thai breakfast, too. They are always open for lunch. The service was very good, and the staff was helpful in explaining the menu. We ate every single bite that they brought to our table, in spite of the large portion sizes. Prices were very reasonable, too. We will definitely keep returning here and recommend it to our friends!

Lovely South Indian food, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Everything we ordered tasted amazing. They had an unexpected busy lunch when we went, but they handled it well - everything still arrived quickly and our hosts were happy and welcoming. Really happy with our experience and will definitely be coming back!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chai N Thai, a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Chiang Mai, and I must say it was an extraordinary culinary experience. This South Indian restaurant not only exceeded my expectations but left an indelible mark on my taste buds. The restaurant boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere, with vibrant colors and traditional South Indian décor that transports you to the heart of India. The soft lighting creates an intimate setting, perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The service at Chai N Thai is impeccable. The staff is not only knowledgeable about the menu but also attentive and courteous. Chai N Thai is a haven for South Indian cuisine enthusiasts. The menu is an impressive array of authentic dishes, each bursting with flavor and prepared with precision. From the crispy dosas to the flavorful curries, every dish is a testament to the chef's mastery of South Indian culinary artistry. The use of fresh, high-quality ingredients is evident in every bite. I tried Masala Dosa (Thin, crispy, and generously stuffed with a flavorful potato masala) The perfect restaurant makes a perfect Sambhar. Chai n Thai makes a perfect one. Chicken Chettinad: A spicy and aromatic chicken curry that is a true delight for the senses. It tastes like heaven with Kerala Malabari flaky Parotta. Coconut Rice: Fragrant and perfectly cooked, it complements the main dishes exceptionally well. Considering the quality of the food, the portion sizes, and the overall dining experience, Chai N Thai offers excellent value for money. The prices are reasonable, especially given the authenticity and uniqueness of the South Indian flavors on offer. In conclusion, Chai N Thai is a culinary oasis in Chiang Mai, offering a taste of South India that is unparalleled in the region. Whether you're a seasoned fan of South Indian cuisine or a newcomer eager to explore new flavors, this restaurant is a must-visit. I left Chai N Thai with a satisfied palate and a newfound appreciation for the rich and diverse tapestry of South Indian culinary traditions.

Excellent food and service with large portions and good prices. One of the chefs is from Kerala, and the food was very authentic. We ordered the lamb samosa, beef cutlet, cabbage poriyal, beef fry, and appam. Spice level was mild for us but you can request it to be more spicy if you prefer. The samosa and cutlet come with 3 pieces each and the appam is one per order. I don’t know how they make the food so quickly but it comes out quick, hot, and delicious! We definitely over-ordered for 2 people, but the prices were so reasonable and the food was so good and that we finished it all!

If you are looking for south indian cuisine this is the place in Chiang Mai. We had the yummiest mutton curry with yellow rice coupled with chicken samosa. It was served in the clay pot which was so yummy. Customers can see the food preparation as well. Masala tea was also great. Owners are very friendy and originally descending from south india so can assure with the food served. Ambience is also nice and not difficult to find around one nimman area. We visited on my friends bday and the staff were nice enough to suprise her with some tasty gulab jamun. Would recommend for any south indian cuisine lovers for an authentic feel of south indian spices and curry. Will be visiting again.

Tasty Indian food in the Nimman area of Chiang Mai. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. The masala dosa was great. The restaurant is casual with nice decor on the walls. Came here mid afternoon during a rainstorm and the place was empty. Enjoyed the food

Just came back from having an excellent meal here. Staff was very friendly, and the chef came out to clarify/ask me a question about my order. I ordered two things, both I had never had before back in the US, pyaaz ki kachori, a Northern Indian savory pastry filled with a spicy onion mixture & chicken chettinad, a Southern Indian spicy chicken curry. Both were excellent, especially the curry - thick & rich. I also had perfectly cooked basmati rice to put the curry over. I’ll definitely be going back before I leave Chiang Mai in a couple of weeks.

Had an excellent lunch here. The restaurant is bright and comfortable. The staff are friendly, helpful and very willing show you and tell you the ingredients. If you have any allergies they are very willing to accommodate. We had the curried chicken, rice hopper, masala Dosa, Dahl tadka, butter chicken, naan and mango lassi. Everything was cooked to order, had excellent flavor and good portions. My only complaint was there were a lot of small bones or bone chips in the chicken curry, it was manageable but could be problematic for some. Definitely going back and will even try the cooking class.

Nice little place in Nimman for good indian flavor. Very tasty, perfectly cooked Dosa. Portion size is on the smaller side. The coffee they served was absolutely terrible, would not recommend. But food, good.

I wasn't expecting much because I went to another Indian restaurant in Chiang Mai before but that one wasn't good. I've read reviews about this place and it was honestly beyond great. There weren't a lot of customers when I was there, there were only 3 tables, in fact. But there were a lot of delivery services and take outs from Grab food. The staff was very nice. We ordered beef stew, chicken tikka masala, pana puri set, naan, and paratha, everything was amazing. I would definitely go there again! The overall price wasn't expensive at all. There were four of us and the total meal was around 800 THB (~$26). The Indian tea also has very strong spice which I like. Would highly recommend those who crave Indian food!

Excellent offerings of typical South Indian cuisine. Very happy to have them in Chiang Mai. I had the buffet last week and returned today for the Masala Dosa. All dishes impressed me. The masala filing was generous, rich and full of flavour. Fresh chutneys topped of the presentation.

Their delicious Dosas and Chole Bhatura keep calling us back 😋 Since discovering this restaurant a few months ago, we have visited a few times already. The restaurant offers a variety of Indian dishes ranging from meat based to Vegan and Gluten Free. Our go to vegan options are Dal Palak, Medu Vada, Idly, Chale Bhatura and of course Dosa. The staff are very attentive, polite and friendly. The service is excellent. Highly recommend this place.

I went to Chai n Thai tonight for the first time. A couple of weeks ago I stopped in to see the menu and it looked very good. Tonight I had butter chicken with rice and garlic nan bread. It was absolutely great!!!! They serve some chips before the dinner and the service is very, very good. The portions are large and there will be no bedtime snack tonight. The owner came around to make sure that everything was good. I paid by bank transfer/QR code and I never allow people to take a picture of the transaction however I show it to them. They had no problem with it and I certainly appreciate it. Yes.....I will certainly go back and recommend this wonderful place!

Excellent Indian food! The Medu Vata and Kootu Curry were recommended by the manager as unique vegan options and they were fantastic! The lemon rice was especially tasty as well. Highly recommend :)

The reviews are true , this place is a gem in Chiang Mai …. Sanjay is a great person and an awesome chef … made an off the menu home style Rajma and rice for me that was fantastic! I also had the Pani Puri and that was amazing . . . Cured my craving for Indian food in Thailand 👌

I don’t recommend this place. I rarely give negative reviews but I want to be true to allow people to find the best places in town. The place is nice, they generous in terms of quantities, and the lady serving was lovely, but the food was disappointing. They offered a soup for free, which was super nice, but it was way too salty. I live tandoori chicken and I’m used to eat it a lot. Here the paste used is too sour. It felt like vinegar/not natural. Knowing that there is an authentic, delicious Indian restaurant two streets away that will meet all your expectations, with outstanding decoration, fresh and high-quality products, I would recommend to pass on this one.
