Most beautiful temple I visited in the Whole Thailand. I went to visit this temple a day after visiting the white temple. Honestly, I had little expectations but I knew that t was worth the visit. First thing I found was that there was no fee to visit it, and that is somehow still under construction. It might be that blue is my favourite colour or just because the place is state of the art, but after a while it made me sight on delight. So, I decided to gather some courage and harness a supposedly photo with my girlfriend to bent the knee and ask her to marry me at the entrance. No need to say that she returned a shaky but resounding Yes!. Some day we shall come back.

Beautiful temple, worth going, its free entrance and best time to go probably about 5pm as they turn on their lights about 6pm. Not too big a temple but very beautiful

The entire temple is dominated by blue, blue and gold as the main color, and the temple was donated by local residents. The darker colors on the periphery are mostly traditional Thai monsters, which look grotesque. In addition, the designer used crystal balls to decorate the surroundings, making them look solemn and quiet. This temple is overpopulated in the holiday afternoon, so if you want to take some photos, better come at workday. And you must take off your shoes when entering the hall! Speak softly and it is very quiet inside, and you can take pictures in the hall. -Business hours: 08:00 -17:00 -Tickets: None

It's a must visit if you're in the area. A beautiful and unique temple. Not only is it well maintained, but they're still building new areas. It's all made in concrete by skillful artists. For people who want to pray or just casual tourists, you won't be disappointed. Great selection of food and sweets around, too.

A magnificent temple in deep blue. The beautiful images to be seen around are rendered in detail. Since it is very touristic, it cannot be said to be peaceful and calm. Its color and the presence of statues of different images make this place worth seeing. There is still an entrance fee.

Of all the temples in Thailand I found this one very captivating, escaping from the traditional reds and golds was a sea of blue coloured decor adorning the entire building. It was free to enter which is a huge bonus, and not far plus easy to drive to on scooter from the main city. The place wasn’t very busy when I went also which was surprising on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Well worth a visit if you’re into seeing the temples as it just felt fresh and different to the many you see around Thailand.

Unique stunning blue temple makes this place attractive for tourists and local people. Also, it is one of popular scene in social media where you may always see. However, please dress properly without short sleeves shirt or short skirt in order to pay respect to Buddha and Buddhism. No entrance fee and convenient parking.

Really enjoyed the blue temple. I was quite a drive from Chiang mai. It takes around 2 hours if no stops or breaks. I didn't realise that the temple was only built in 1996, then went I to disrepair around 2001. They had a full rebuild and refurbishment that was completed in 2016. I had assumed incorrectly that this was at least 100 years old. 😅 The site was the place of discovered ruins, hence the reason for the rebuild. Out of this and the white temple, I much preferred this (blue temple)

Visiting the Blue Temple in Chiang Rai was an amazing experience that I highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. The temple's striking blue color and intricate designs are absolutely breathtaking. Walking through its grounds felt like being in a vibrant, otherworldly place, with every detail of the architecture demanding attention. The serene atmosphere inside the temple provided a sense of peace and tranquility, while the outside's vivid colors and artistry were a feast for the eyes. This temple, with its unique charm and beauty, is a true testament to the creativity and cultural richness of Thailand. A visit here is a must for anyone seeking both spiritual and visual inspiration.

Gorgeous temple that definitely holds its own against the other big landmark in Chiang Mai: the White Temple. The interior of this temple is immaculate and entrancing. There is a really nice cafe across from the entrance as well. It’s free to enter, so a visit is a no-brainer. It’s a splendid place to spend 30 minutes to an hour wandering and getting lost in the atmosphere.

The Blue Temple is different than other popular touristic temples due to its striking modern artistic design. It follows in the unconventional "neo-traditional" style of Buddhist art pioneered by Chalermchai, employing lavishly ornamented sculptures and psychedelic visual imagery. Recommend coming early in the morning before it gets crowded.

Interesting Temple that is painted blue, personally this temple is not worth the „hype“. This region has many more beautiful temples to offer. There’s a lot of public toilets nearby as well as a few mandatory shops. What bothered me were automated robots, one of them a skeleton, that „prayed“ to the gods. They were quite terrifying and felt very out of place. There were also many Instagram focused tourists here that didn’t warship the temple inside. Lots of them in very skimpy outfits that were very inappropriate. Wouldn’t visit again. There’s currently no entrance fee or rules regarding clothing.

This Blue and gold temple will certainly entertain you as much as the famous white temple! Free entry and located not far from the white temple. Pictures are allowed to be taken inside unlike the white temple. Beautiful architecture and the gold really compliments the blue. Around the site there are shops for souvenirs, toilets and free parking. This temple was actually busier than the white temple and for good reason. If you like the thai temples then this one you should not miss if you are in Chaingmai!

The temple is breathtaking and well worth a visit. Simply stunning must be seen to be believed! A 3 hour drive from Chiang Mai, but on the way, there is plenty to see to stop and to stretch your legs, hot springs, etc. Entry is free, and parking is in the grounds itself, so easy for the elderly. The facilities are clean, and there are plenty of vendors for drinks and food.

This temple is amazing! The colors are sublime, not big fan of blue, but, this is an amazing place and the architectural deters are excellent! You probably need about 45 min to an hour to walk around and see everything. Take your time and drink a lot of water! Highly recommended.

Another must-see temple in Chiang Rai: a temple adorned in blue and gold that illuminates in the evening. The Blue Temple is marvelous to explore and is stunning in real life. As it's quite touristy, don't expect to find peace and quiet here. The architecture is splendid and the indoor temple complex is quite worldly. Entry and parking are free!

The temple is beautiful and really worth the 4 hrs drive it took us to go from Chiang Mai. Google maps took us there without problems and the parking area was well-marked. There were a lot of tourists, so they had clear instructions in different languages for people wanting to go into the main hall to dress appropriately, take off shoes, hat, sunglasses etc playing on repeat. Kind of good that everyone knows what is expected, but kind of sad to keep hearing that in the background too.

Very nice design and color themed temple. My friends and I spent around 2 hours here almost to take photos. Good atmosphere, many spots where you can actually take very nice photos. Free entry, and if you're driving there you can park your vehicle just outside the temple.

What a beautiful of blue temple! Must to visit place. There is one of a famous photogenic temple that is now in trend. You will see many people come to take a photos but such a shame that many of them just come for photo so they didn't learn anything from the place.

What an amazing temple in Chiang Rai. Not often that you will see a blue temple like this in the world. Very creative and artistic it has many details in the structures that one would say tell a story. Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves temples or art.

The blue temple is beautiful and is very different from what we are used to see. Its bright blue color is wonderful and brings out the gilding of the temple. The interior is not very big but is quite magical ! There is a big Buddha of blue color too. It's located in the heart of the city of Chiang Rai. Great temple !

This temple is very much like the others but blue and gold. As always, the sculptures are well made and very interesting. I think there are so many temples it is hard to say which is better than the others. Spoiled for choice makes the uniqueness fade somewhat unfortunately.

  • 5/5 Celina C. 1 year ago on Google
The blue temple is built quite recently. It is also designed by the same artist of the white temple. That's why it's also so beautiful and stunning!!! The murals inside the temple are in similar concept in the white temple. But in the white temple, you cannot take pictures inside. Make sure you appreciate both! There are still statuses, etc being built. Should visit again in a few years!

Beautifully Blue temple, some buildings are still in progress of being painted though. Free entrance and you are allowed to take pictures inside. Statues are high and magnificent, inside interiors are painted and there are also paintings telling about Buddhism and meditation.

The interior is tranquil with an all amazing Buddha statue. Very beautiful. The carvings outside- also amazing. The Buddha statues outside the main hall- wow. Pictures don’t do justice, one has to be present to feel the ambience.. A pity that there are many tourists cluttering the inside, not respecting the worshippers at the same place…

From the very beginning of the trip, this was a complete sense of real experience that I would definitely repeat with some extra time. Pay attention to every little detail. From how the culture is so respectful about their traditions, but I still accept tourists to visit and feel this sense of belonging to a community. It is just unbelievable! If I had to give a low point I would Focus on the merchants surrounding the temple, as I believe it kind of breaks the magic of these type of places. After all they’re trying to get a benefit of this amount of tourists that busy there cultural spaces, by having a bigger benefit.

The history behind this temple is interlude fascinating, with the legend of jumping tigers over 100 years ago from the nearby Mae Kok river into the now temple village area. I could believe this as back even as late the 1970s, there were wild tigers in this area which was mostly jungle compared to the developed city you see today. Architecturally it is stunning inside and out and there no fee to enter for foreigners or Thai nationals. We can around 3pm and spent about 1 hour here, but you could come and spend 20-30 minutes here and see everything. I recommend coming late afternoon, as the lighting is much better for photography and the crowds especially during Thai public holidays are already gone. Nearby is a great cafe to rest from the sun and if you want to go into town, and not walk or if you do not have your own transport, it costs 30 THB by taxi or Tuk Tuk. Dress respectfully, wear a mask to enter and bring your own wet wipes and hand sanitizer as there is non provided.

Beautiful blue temple! Chiang Rai has some of the most beautiful and colorful temples and we definitely enjoyed this one. As other reviewers have said, this place is overrun with tourists, but if you take your time and wander further into the back, it's a little less crowded and you really get to enjoy the temple. Highly recommend hiring a driver that will take you here and also the Baan Dam Museum. Note: Visited prior to COVID, so things may be slightly different.
