Small cave located away from the city overlooking the Kok river. Inside the cave you'll find images of Buddha and several other deities. The place is quiet and air is cooling. You definitely won't find it in the city.

The place is very original: the cave is incredible, very large with this Buddha lying in the darkness. Awesome.

The temple is located down to the river and has a platform overlooking the river with a large Buddha statue on it. But the main attraction, if you can call it that, is the cave where there are many Buddha statues. If you're in the area anyway, there is a second cave not far away. It's a bit more "Indiana Jones" search for "Buddha Image Cave" and you'll find it

Pretty cool and creepy place to visit. Recommend if you're riding a scooter because the ride there is pretty nice as it is in the countryside. There are bats in the cave which is attended by a lone monk. The path by the river leads to a big Buddha overlooking the Kok river which is pretty cool. It's nothing fantastic, but nice to go to if you have time.

A small temple located in a cave. It's worth a visit for those who rent a motorbike. Location away from the hustle and bustle and with views of the river outside. It is free and has parking for motorbikes/cars.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful, quiet and peaceful place. Located in a rock by the river, off the beaten track from the main road. The cave is not big. Bats live in it, so you have to consider wanting to take pictures with flash. In the cave there are several statues and the carport built outside the rock. Next to it is a large parking lot. An additional interesting attraction is the statue of Buddha placed on the tower built right on the river. There is a bridge there. By the river itself there is a beautiful promenade for walks. Go here especially just before sunset, because the views are spectacular. (Original) Piękne, ciche i spokojne miejsce.

A very beautiful and peaceful cave temple by the river a little way out of town. Well worth a visit. The steps up to the temple/cave entrance are fairly steep and not really suitable for the disabled, although relatively short.

Amazing cave, amazing area! Really beautiful! It is not only the cave, but the kitties, the path around and the river at the back of it. Very relaxing. The day I went it was only me and a Monk taking care of the place, nobody else! Just make sure you have a way to go back to the city, as you may not find a Grab. I almost got in trouble for not having how to go back to my hostel. It is like a rural area. But it is a must go, definitely.

A nice place to visit, quiet without the normal tourist crowd. We where alone when we visited. There is a bit dirty on the floor because of the bats, but there should be water to wash your feet’s at the entrance. There is also toilet facilities.

An untouristy temple which is a rarity here. Clearly not well known about but it was very interesting, and a nice place to cycle or take a scooter out to from the city. The temple area is built into a cave with bats remaining in there. Free to visit and would recommend on a day of sight seeing

Peaceful and calm historical temple. According to the abbot. The Buddha statue in cave dated at lease 2500 years. Place located a little remote out side city. Across the Mae Kok River from Chiang Rai beach. Place is easily recognised by the Buddha statue on the big roco by the river bank.

A solid 4.0 It’s quite cool at first. You go inside a cave that has the Buddha’s and gongs. Lots of bats in the cave. Sadly did not see any monkeys. Only need to go there once, very cool. In addition, I would recommend taking a scooter to the destination because the view is amazing.

  • 3/5 Eric F. 1 year ago on Google
Pretty cool would not go out of my way for this temple but we were driving by and took advantage. Next to the river, it was a pleasant pitstop.

Really peaceful place by the river, amazing cave with a number of Buddhas in. Worth the visit on a bicycle or motorbike. You can also get a taxi boat by the river (not sure to where though).

Wat Tham Phra, also known as Buddha Cave Temple, is a serene escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Even though it was devoid of staff when I was there, it was impressively well-maintained. The Buddha situated within the cave adds to its mystical charm. Don't forget to seek out the white Buddha nestled along the river.

There is a great hike running around the mountain between the river and the steep cliff. Recommend biking to this area as it’s very remote and lots beautiful views of farms and the mountains yet close to the city.

Nothing special. The lone monk kept giving me the evil eye the whole time. Not a friendly ole at all, and the cave is barely a cave. There is a better Buddha cave nearby that looks abandoned but actually is more interesting.

Indeed beautiful. Crowded but worth a visit. Many coffee shops around. Enough parking space too.

  • 4/5 Phisa R. 4 years ago on Google
The wat is a bit far from the center and quiet. When i was there, there was no one look after the place and the door was locked. If you walk inside the area, u’ll see there’s buddha statue at the riverside. The view and the atmosphere there was so good. And i had great time watching sunset there. Btw the way to the wat is kinda dusty and foggy if you drive behind a car. So dont forget mask and glasses ~

A lesser known Buddhist temple partly within an interesting cave structure. The place upkeep is a bit neglected. However the beautiful location at a river bend makes it still worth visiting.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful temple built inside a cave still inhabited by bats. Everything is clean, and the effect of the rock roof is impressive. We went there in the evening, the bats were starting to come out of their holes and dancing above the gold-plated statues. We were alone and the best is very quiet by the river Kok. We can also follow the path along the river since time, it's very beautiful and calm. Come and see if you are in the region.

(Translated by Google) Located opposite Chiang Rai Beach, on the river L'ok, near its eastern end, there is a cave with three rooms, and each room has a natural skylight at its peak. The largest room is large enough to accommodate a middle-aged redwood tree. Inside there are statues of Buddha and bats and usually in monk praying. (Original) Situato di fronte a Chiang Rai Beach, sul fiume L'ok, viciino alla sua estremità est, c'è una caverna con tre camere, e ogni camera ha un lucernario naturale al suo apice. I really like this temple and feel at ease. Came to park after work. There is only one monk who lives at the temple and has many cats, so he often brings food to the cats. The weather is nice and cool. Come to worship and make merit regularly.
