We randomly googled this place and visited this place via our rented motorbike. The place is a nice drive through a village. There are a lot of 🐒 in this place. Also, there are many varieties of fish in the pond. There are 2 caves. One of the caves is a 10 min trek uphill and you will be welcomed with a gorgeous cave. Inside the cave is a beautiful statue of Buddha. You can also find a new shrine, another small cave and an old Stupa ( resembling mount Meru) in the premises. I highly recommend going here. It's a very off beat place.

Wat Tham Pla is a popular site among locals as well as outsiders due to its religious significance. The temple is popularly called Monkey Temple due to the large number of macaques that live here. Located close to the Burmese border, the temple complex has a modest but attractive facade and a very tranquil ambience. There are two caves on the site. To the left, over a steep staircase, is the Tham Pla with an interesting entrance. Inside, Buddha figures stand in the little light that enters through openings in the rock. The cave to the right after the bizarre figure cabinet is called Tham Goo Gaew. The 500 meters long, winding passage is not illuminated. Entry Fee: Free Entry

Very beautiful complex. The temple is nothing special when it comes to architectural beauty but the way to get up to the cave, the view point and the main attraction: monkeys, are enough reason to give it a check. There’s no entrance fee, but you can buy either monkey or fish food for 20 baht. There are sticks at the entrance, it’s recommended carrying them during your visit cause monkey won’t trust your word if you tell them that there’s no food in your backpack, they prefer to check themselves 😬

ALWAYS carry a bamboo stick with you here. Because although a lot of the moneys look cute, a lot of them won't hesitate to charge and grad you if feel threatened. Of coarse they love getting bananas from you, and thats really the only way to get them to come close to you for a good picture moment. Otherwise, the hike up the hundreds of stairs is debatable weither its worth it to just see inside a small cave with just one statue. Still good exercise lol

Prepare for a thrilling adventure surrounded by monkeys! As you enter, you'll notice these curious creatures roaming freely, making every corner their playground. Carrying a stick is advisable - simply a gentle deterrent to safeguard your belongings and maintain a respectful distance. Exercise caution around the monkeys, especially if they have young ones with them as the monkeys can get protective and thus aggressive. We especially enjoyed the cave, albeit a steep climb, leading to a majestic cavern with a serene Buddha statue and the occasional bat fluttering by. Don't miss the pond full of carps - feeding them offers a firsthand glimpse of their impressive size as they rise to the pond’s surface. Overall, a memorable experience packed with monkey encounters amidst natural surroundings.

Plenty of monkeys around this place . you can buy baskets of fruit to feed them. They are generally quite approachable but there are a few that may show aggression. Do carry a stick with you just in case . Can climb up the stairs to visit a wat in the cave as well. Overall lovely place to spend an afternoon !

A great experience for an adventurous traveler who wants to see the combination of a temple cave, a fish pond in a blue-ish water, and some wild monkeys taht will be ready to steal your foods and drinks. So, better not bring any food and drinks around them if you're afraid of the monkeys. 😂😂

This place is totally deserted. Not sure if it's because it's the low season when I went 2days ago? Made the exhausting climb up the dangerous stairs, finally entered the cave and expecting the wonderful scenary that was posted. But it was dark and deserted, littered with rubbish inside.

We stopped by on our way to the Golden Triangle. It is worth to see wild monkeys. They will notice you when you have food and they may get naughty then. So if you want to avoid it, don't bringt or buy any food there. Take the steps to the cave and enjoy it and also the wonderful view of the area around. Mind the slippery steps when you visit the temple during the rainy season.

  • 5/5 Glücks P. 10 months ago on Google
These monkeys are very cute. You can buy for 20 baht some bananas or nuts and feed the monkeys. They eat from your hands. No worries, they are not agressive, just curious.

  • 3/5 Bob K. 1 year ago on Google
Not visited so much, we know it as monkey cave, make sure you have a piece of bamboo at the ready to keep the little buggers away. Needs a good clean up but worth a visit.

We visited in the afternoon in late Jan. Entrance fee is 200baht for foreigners and 20baht for locals. You can buy buckets of fish food near the ticket booth for 50baht for 3 buckets. It’s a nice park, well maintained, quiet and peaceful. Lots of fish in the cave but you can’t actually go into the cave, the path around the park is well maintained though. Would recommend if you have some time to kill

Loved seeing the monkeys here (barely even went to the shrine to be honest) the drive from chiang rai is pretty long but was worth it for me, especially buying a bucket of Bananas and feeding them was really fun. Would recommend covering up though just incase of scratches

  • 5/5 Enni H. 1 year ago on Google
Very beautiful, it was so cute to see the monkeys. You can even buy food and feed the monkeys and also the fish on your own. You get a stick to protect your self in the case of a monkey getting angry. The temples around are also beautiful. It’s definitely a place where you could bring kids and worth the visit if you want to see monkeys in their natural habit!

  • 5/5 Jonathan K. 1 year ago on Google
If you like monkeys as much as we do you will have a blast here. They are everywhere, cavorting and playing. They largely ignore you until you start to feed them, at which point prepare to be swarmed and to have them try (or, in our case, succeed) to steal the food bucket. As a bonus, the setting is very attractive, and a brief but vigorous hike up a series of steep steps takes you to a nice lookout point and later to a small cave with a temple inside.

  • 5/5 Maju L. 9 months ago on Google
Not a lot of tourist here. Very enjoyable time feeding the fish and especially the monkeys at the temple. Beautiful scenery.

  • 5/5 Kim 1 year ago on Google
The monkeys love bananas and you can buy a small bucket of them to feed the monkeys. I always hold the bucket on my head and take 1 out at a time, otherwise you’ll get a monkey mugging. My family said that this free experience was better than anything else they’d done in Chiang Rai

  • 5/5 Lindy van S. 9 months ago on Google
Really really cool temple. Very clean, has beautiful buildings, and the cave is breathtaking. Make sure to take a flashlight with if you want to go deep. The phones' torch won't do it. Also, please be careful of the monkeys. They aren't as aggressive as in other areas of Thailand, but they will come up to you to grab your bags and food.

  • 5/5 Bryce C. 8 months ago on Google
This temple is actually really cool, despite all of the monkeys hanging around. There is a nice chedi and after climbing a whole lot of stairs, there is a statue of Buddha hidden in a cave at the top. The view from the top isn't bad either. Just hold on to your belongings because the monkeys with steal your stuff if you're not careful.

This is little know to the bigger public. You won't see too many tourists here. It does not have a temple but has 2 caves you can enter. Just be very careful of the monkeys because the reign supreme here. There are sticks for protection at the entrance and I advise you to take one. Most monkeys are very friendly and curious but might come close because they think you have food. You do need to beware of the young males or groups of young males. They tend to look for trouble. They can growl, try to take stuff ( even your stuff) or might attack. But the area is absolutely stunning. Especially the naga staircaise.
