Without a doubt one of the best coffee shop in Chicago. Metropolis is very spacious, clean and the vibe is perfect for relaxation and lounging. Their drip coffee is definitely the most delicious in Edgewater. We stopped by this morning for some coffee, buttery croissant , and egg/cheese hand pie….everything tasted fresh and very delicious. Highly highly recommend! 👍

A simple yet cool coffee shop. Lots of seating area to enjoy coffee! Barista is really nice. I got an espresso and spinach feta pie. Thought they were both really good and well worth the price at just over $7. Was happily to see that they sell Sawada coffee beans here too!

I love this place! The coffee is absolutely fantastic, and I come here frequently. I really appreciate their seasonal beverages, as it offers completely unique flavors. There are lots of seating, but the place gets PACKED (it's a very popular place), so come early if you want a seat.

Metropolis Coffee is my favorite US based roaster. I found this coffee out of state and have struggled to find anything better. Walking into the shop was a dream come true. The cafe did not disappoint. The decor and vibe of the cafe was exactly what I'd expect from a trendy coffee shop, but the small touches sets this place apart. Excellent music, unique art and the classic blue espresso machine all added to the feel of the space. The most memorable part of our visit was the exceptional staff. Dani was the stand out. She loved to talk coffee, you could feel her passion for the brand and coffee in general. She glowed when I told her it was my favorite coffee and I could tell she was proud to be a part of it. I'll be back and I'm telling everyone I know in the Midwest to make this place a must-see stop. Thank you for your coffee and for employing an inspired staff.

Best local coffee shop near Loyola University! The best place to visit when in the area or just passing though. The coffee shop is located just steps away from the red line Granville stop. They have your traditional coffees and also speciality coffees. Great for on the go as well as enjoyed in their shop with some homework or even regular work. I would also suggest this as a great meeting place.

Really cool coffee shop. Plenty of seating, a few outside as well. Have coffee and snacks. I usually have a cappuccino and a scone or muffin. They never have a white mocha which is little disappointing.

Metropolis remains a classic, and for good reason. Great coffee, super delish baked goods, cute atmosphere. And better yet, it's just a short walk from Berger Park to enjoy lovely lake views while you sip, since the cafe can get a bit crowded on weekend afternoons.

Good coffee got this place 3 stars. I enter the coffee shop and went at the counter started ordering, cashier was wearing a mask which was making him/her inaudible, not only once but I wasn’t able to hear her 5 times in an approximately3 min conversation which was slightly irritating. Secondly his/her standing position was absurd, leaning on the counter top with elbow support. And she didn’t even greet me nor she smiled at me once, i got the feeling of an arrogant owner. Coming from laguna beach, CA. Service here in chicago sucks. I ordered a croissant and a coffee usually croissants are warm, they’re kept warm. My croissant was cold and they didn’t even warm it up and served without napkins. Thirdly: the outdoor seating. Outdoor seating is not clean there is alot of dust on the tables and chairs. Lots of garbage on the ground near the outdoor seating area. I know i might sound like a lunatic here, but laguna beach has best patios and outdoor seatings, I understand chicago is cold. But today was 65-70 degrees F. Which was quite warm, the weather was perfect for outdoor seating. This last point might be irrelevant or they’re just to careless about their outdoor seating. I don’t if people in chicago like to sit outdoors in summers, but summers deserve outdoor seating. If the keep it clean whoever wants to sit will sit. It’s hard to be perfect, but it never hurts to try. I liked the coffee tho, but the croissant, service and outdoor seating sucked. Let’s have a look at their restrooms. Okay the restroom is clean and tidy, but the lock wasn’t working. Inside ambiance is amazing. I like it. I got videos of everything you guys can check it out. I also got the standing position of the cashier.

A real gem! The food and drinks are delicious, the staff is friendly and skilled, and the ambience is cozy and charming. I especially love the wall art and the diverse and welcoming atmosphere. Lots of locals and students working and studying and chatting. I love Metropolis and come here whenever I'm in Chicago!

I'll never forget the delicious taste of the coffee I ordered here. It only seemed to be addictive! Both the couple who run this shop (the owners) and the staff members are wonderful and extremely supportive. The coffee was delicious, and the pastry was homemade. All is worthwhile! This spot is an absolute must-see. Thank you so much for your excellent service!

This place is super cute and has a lovely, warm atmosphere. I ordered a vanilla cappuccino and a butter croissant and both were delicious. And this is coming from someone who almost always orders iced drinks! :)

Super nice cafe for working in, even on weekends! There are other people reading + working on their laptops as well, so that was very encouraging for me to get my work done! In terms of the drinks I got the matcha which was very thick + strong and was not too sweet (they offer sweetened and unsweetened)! They have a lot of snacks + salads available too so that is amazing!

Staff was helpful and very sweet. They had cool coffee specials and themes. I used the space to work remotely while my dog was being groomed down the street and it was the perfect shop due to ample outlets and seating areas. It did get very busy.

Having lived in the neighborhood for ten years, Metropolis has always been around. I've stopped in for meetings, coffee, to work, etc over the years. In the most recent months, I've worked here more often to get out of the house. I just find it difficult to get connected to their internet sometimes. They have two wifi's and I feel like they bounce between the two which will work. I've had to ask college students working here, who have trouble as well.

Came here on a Friday afternoon and it was packed! There is plenty of seating, which is helpful, as well as outlets if you need to charge. Come here to do work or catch up with a friend. It’s not the nicest coffee shop I’ve ever been to, but the coffee was good.

The cafe is noting to write home about, but the coffee is my favorite in Chicago. Roasting for over 20 years now, my go-to’s are the Spice Island and Schweik’s blends. Food items are sourced from Bennison’s and Middle Eastern Bakery. I’ve always appreciated that you get a free cup of coffee when you purchase a bag of beans. Recommended.

Been coming to Metropolis since they first opened 20 years ago. They have INCREDIBLE coffee - roasted to peak flavors (unlike a certain national brand, no names *cough cough*) so that you can really taste the differences between the varietals and blends. Mocha Java is my favorite for everyday drinking. They have fanastic cold brew. Get the Spice Island or Hullabaloo (holiday blend) for the perfect coffee to complement holiday sweets (or anytime sweet desserts). And they have decaf coffees that taste like proper full-on-caffiene coffee, which is quite an accomplishment, as most decafs tend to be quite bland. I hope that they will eventually change their K-cups to using the paper-filter bottom style instead of the current plastic style. The paper-filter-bottom K-cups give far more flavor to coffee than the traditional/classic plastic style. And with Metropolis, you deserve to taste every last drop of goodness from their great coffees.

A neighborhood institution! The place was full and felt crowded. Of course masks were off while people were eating. The staff went out of their way to help me with my order and facilitated getting me through the line quickly. I sat outside on the benches drinking my coffee and eating my chocolate chip muffin and it was delightful. I chatted with so many people passing by and it was like a runway for dogs! I miss the tables though. I don’t know why the tables were removed.

Got the iced coffee here. Staff was super friendly and the ordering process was efficient, quick, and easy. The iced coffee was okay, but much more milk than I am used to. It is also very strong, but I like that - just letting others know in case that isn't your thing.

Good local place for coffee. Havent been here in quite awhile. I feel it needs a good cleaning and could be updated (at least painted). It seemed a bit dirty to me. While waiting for our order, which took awhile and they completely forgot mine, flies where hovering and inside trash receptacles.

One of my favorite coffee shops in Chicago now! Great selection of whole bean coffee, drinks, and snacks to eat. I wasn’t expecting the atmosphere to be so busy, yet peaceful. This is a great place to get a coffee and work on stuff. I like the local art on the walls. I’ve been to several coffee shops on the north side over the years, and the staff here was SUPER! Everyone was so friendly and helpful, it made me happy to be here. Reminded me of my favorite coffee shop back home. I’ll definitely be back!

We recently visited this place and we ordered a latte with oat milk as well as matcha latte. Both drinks were prepared carefully and they were full of flavor. Definitely one of the best places in Chicago to get a good latte with latte art.

I couldn't have been more disappointed. Walked a mile to get here because the shop boasts of a wide coffee selection (see all the beans they sell in the photo) and a review that said they had amazing pour overs. I thought, "This is what I need to punctuate my visit to Loyola!" They don't do pour overs. The cashier at the register said they did. Consulting with the one other person behind the bar, he learned they don't. And they only.had one generic medium roast on drip. Not what I would've anticipated or what I had hoped for.

Amazing Baristas, comfy surroundings, and feels like the living room I wish I could afford. Best brewed anything. Latte like mother's milk. Can't do "chain stuff" since I moved here. Also feel good about supporting a local business that employs cool local "characters." 🤗

I was back home to relocate my mom to the 🍑 state. All of her belongings were packed away, most importantly her coffee pot☕️so I was left to ponder 2 things. 1. How is my mother this perky without coffee and 2. Where can I get a cup?. Viola' Metropolis Coffee Company was a short 2 block walk from mom's building. Open early. Great selection. The coffee of the day was Ethiopian and it was delicious. Great prices and friendly fast service. 👌

Loved working remote from this great coffee shop, the tea lattes are great and the Mexican hot chocolate was delicious. The staff is super friendly and helpful in selecting a great beverage. The space is great to have a meeting or focus on work. the tables and chairs are big enough to work, they even have an outdoor area. Loved the strong wifi, would highly recommend if you're wanting to get out of the house and work elsewhere or like me just passing by and need to get some work done.

Fantastic place to sip, work, study, or meet a friend. Great energy here. The oat milk latte was delicious and the espresso was fresh. You can tell the machines are well maintained when the coffee taste isn’t bitter or burnt. Also enjoyed a perfectly baked oatmeal cookie. Being the size of my face didn’t change how it crumbled evenly in your mouth. Was the right amount of chew to crunch. I’ll be craving that cookie for a while! Could hang out here often.

The iced mocha is by far my favorite. The chocolate in it is wonderfully rich. Right now, the spaces is set up to enforce safety precautions during COVID-19, which I really appreciate. I'd like to see more variety in their seasonal offerings. For example, the only pumpkin drink they offered in October was a cafe au lait. Not knowing the backend of their operation, I just asked if there was a possibility to get the flavor or cream added to a cold brew. Spoiler: the barista said no. In spite of my criticism, if you like zucchini bread, their bundt is AMAZING.

rude incompetent staff... over charged me and when I asked about it (not even asking for my money back) she got defensive and yelled at me lol.... Anastasia or Amanda I think her name was.... then she said that she was trying to save me money but clearly did not know how to do simple math. the manager with the really short hair fixed it for me... the issue is if they are over charging people constantly or doing this to elderly or people that may not notice they are making a killing.

While the coffee is very good, employees are irrationally overreacting about coronavirus. Almost to the point where I don’t think it’s worth going there to have a cup of joe. I don’t know where their getting their guidelines from, but it’s surely not something rational. Pseudo- science will kill local businesses.

This place was great! I came across this place on the internet and after looking at their website I knew I had to try it! It is the cutest little coffee spot. Wish we were allowed to stick around inside because they have so many cool things on the wall. The workers were great; very nice and friendly. I bought this cute cup for only $10! You guys need to place a sign that says "Stay behind red line while ordering." It's confusing, and the baristas are super passive aggressive about it. Everytime I've visited, someone makes that mistake. Maybe put a physical barrier? Its annoying and makes me not want to come back.Other than that, their espresso is pretty good.

This is my go-to coffee place! The atmosphere is really cozy and fun, the workers are kind and helpful. The coffee is strong (I love their london fog), and their pastry is WONDERFUL! It's typically pretty crowded, so finding a seat can be difficult, especially on the weekends and during finals.

It was our first time to experience the place but I could say that the place was very wonderful. If small floor space is full, you could ask the staff to go upstairs because it's a great way to rest from people who are busy talking and there, you could enjoy the view. Apart from good coffee, you will find here a nice selection of ceramics from local artists. Ideal place
