Meddle Coffee Bar, a cup of happiness in your hand 😀 Nestled in the bustling heart of Jackson Blvd, is a sanctuary for coffee aficionados and casual sippers alike. This gem is more than just a coffee shop—it's an experience. Meddle Coffee Bar is the temple where a divine elixir is served. As you enter, the air is thick with the aroma of coffee beans that have traveled from the far corners of the Earth, just to find their ultimate destiny in your cup. The atmosphere is a fusion of celestial comfort and cosmic coolness. It's as if you've stepped into a parallel universe where time slows down. The baristas are the high priests and priestesses of this temple, performing intricate coffee rituals with a grace that would make even celestial beings pause and admire. Let's talk about their mochas. They're not just drinks; they're ethereal experiences. Imagine the richest, most velvety chocolate merging with coffee in a celestial dance, topped with a halo of perfectly frothed milk. Each sip is like a choir of angels singing directly into your soul. It's the kind of divine intervention that turns a regular day into a heavenly one. In a world that often feels like it's running on empty, Meddle Coffee Bar serves as a cosmic fuel station, to fill your soul with caffeinated joy. Cheers to great coffee and even better experiences! 🎉☕

The place is so well decorated. They have amazing art inside. The coffee is delicious! I got the Mayan mocha. I personally like my coffee a bit more spicy, but spice tolerance is a range. The bathroom is spacious and has a single toilet. Although they have a surface in the bathroom that holds tissue and period type products, I don't think it doubles as a changing table. It just seems weird to have a spacious bathroom without a changing table.

This is a cool spot with a good vibe, good coffee, good seating, and good customer service. I got the iced dolor de oro with oat milk and it was really good. The dash of habanero is somewhat significant and not a big deal if you like the kick. The pastries were very limited around 1230 on a Saturday.

Sweet little indie coffee shop with a great visual style and delicious coffee. Fewer pastry options than some, but still a great variety of croissants, doughnuts, and cookies. Lots of extra purchaseable coffee and coffee-drinking methods, all on the pricier side. The coffee itself is EXCELLENT, though. Iced and hot are both delicious. The house specialties are very worth it.

love the vibe of this place - music was loud enough to be enjoyed but quiet enough to not hear if i put in my headphones; the menu has a good number of options but didn't give me option paralysis; the coffee was good (I had the agave latte). The doughnut I had (old fashioned cinnamon) was a bit too sweet but it's a doughnut, so... The biggest qualm is that they don't have outlets in the shop so if you're bringing your laptop/other make sure it's charged. They did offer to let me charge my phone behind their counter though, which was really nice. Seating is also pretty limited.

There is truly nothing I love more in this world than iced coffee. Dark Matter is one of my favorite shops in Chicago. Recently I stop by the loop location for a coffee in between work showings. Of course it didn’t disappoint. Love their new sorted array of cold coffee‘s for the summer. Definitely need to check the spot out.

To be fair, we didn't get coffee. I'm guessing by the name, that's what makes them awesome. The decor is super cool. The staff is nice. The food options need improvement. Would be cool to have more non-coffee/ non-caffeinated beverage options. A full menu with all available food and drink options would also be valuable. The in-store menus at the register excludes food items and does not include all the drink options.

First class espresso based coffee using Dark Matter beans. Milk is properly done without scalding or burning and the coffee is a turbo charged triple shot. Highly recommended for serious coffee drinkers!

Very awesome looking little coffee shop with great tasting coffee. Only issues I had that there were no electrical outlets that I could see; the staff were okay, did not ask how I was doing or anything; and they close too early. Other than that, I loved their cappuccino and the decor and indoor mural art are very creative.

Tall dark haired guy at register and making coffee was very dry and rude. Also he was wearing his mask under his nose. We came from out of town and were excited to try the coffee bar but he was not helpful at all when we inquired about the different coffees and pastries. Very disappointed with this whole experience. If you have a bad attitude maybe try a different industry to work in other than the service industry.

If you're looking for a coffee shop and delicious cakes, this is the place to be! It offers free wifi and a smoking area (if you're a smoker) inside the venue. At all times, the staff/waiters are very supportive and bubbly. The coffee was great, and the food was delicious. It's reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is good.

The baristas were soo nice and the coffee is amazing like always. I sat inside and did work for a few hours and the ambiance was nice not too loud or busy but I did go at 11am - close on a Friday so that could be why. Definitely will be back!

Amazing coffee and vibes! My favorite coffee is Dolor De Oro which has honey and habanero. It is spicy but also sweet and you can still taste the coffee. It is one of my all time favs. I have also gotten the Wake & Bake which is delicious too. The staff is also great! Highly recommend this place 10/10!

Quaint, vibrant little coffee shop on Jackson. A friendly barista greeted me right away and was super nice. Hot chocolate was perfect - warm enough but not piping hot where it burns the tongue. Not to mention it looked like art. Highly recommend this place!

They close at 5 and we arrived at 4:50. They told me and a couple in front of me that they had already turned off their espresso machines and would only be offering drip coffee. It drives me crazy when staff don’t honor their posted hours and try to check out early. There were others there who were just as disappointed. I’d love to rate their food or coffee but I didn’t get the chance.

Baristas and front end were super friendly and happy to answer questions. The London Fog was killer! The vanilla they use is house-made and you can tell they take pride in it. I'm not a coffee person, but I tried my wife's Cappuccino and it was actually one of, if not the best I've ever tasted. It didn't have that bitter coffee aftertaste. It had a lovely toasted marshmallow/campfire flavor that was quite tasty! Check these folks out!

I asked the barista how spicy the spicy drinking chocolate is, but she didn't know and didn't seem to care to ask her coworker. I understand spicy is a relative term, but even describing the spices used or at least trying to make some effort. Additionally, when she was preparing the drink, she carelessly grabbed the bottom of the whisk before she whisked my drink. I didn't see if she'd just washed her hands, but I don't think so. Unnecessary and unsanitary.

In my opinion the quality of coffee they have is the best we have in Chicago. The baristas are really good in the latte art and very friendly, the place is super cool!

I love the coffee here. And the staff is always friendly. However, multiple times I’ve walked in on a weekday morning (7:30ish), and there is 1 person behind the counter with a line. It’s the best coffee shop in the area, but the lack of staff at such a busy time makes it tough to stop on the way from the train to the office.

Had the barrel-aged bourbon mocha coffee and it was delish. Everytime I visit this location the coffee is perfect and worth every penny. I enjoy the seasonal coffee beans they have available for purchase to brew coffee at home too, they are very flavorful.

I loved all the 4/20 friendly items in the shop and the whole overall theme of this place. The bartender was nice and got our drinks out pretty fast. The drinks were really good, I know I got some kind of mocha drink and the coffee in it was very interesting. It stated it was barrel aged and I hadn't had something like it before. My boyfriend likened it to the taste of whiskey which I do agree with it. I'm not complaining, think it was a very interesting flavor and quite enjoyed the drink! We also got a huge chocolate croissant that was also pretty good.

Coffee was ok - nothing special. The barista was super unfriendly and she gave me a very hot glass of coffee without anything to protect my hand. Would a napkin really have been too much trouble?

  • 5/5 Adam J. 1 year ago on Google
Great service, the coffee had a very high concentration of caffeine, I would suggest getting it cold and pairing it with a donut. A must try if you want an extreme amount of caffeine.

Meddle serves Dark Matter Coffee, very delicious. Got a Cafe Miel with Oat milk. One of the better coffees I've ever had. Was served very quickly even though they were busy. Went again today with kiddo, and it's still a great place to go. My kiddo like the hot chocolate, and I still like the Cafe Miel. And I went again today 3/11/23 with kiddo, nothing's changed, cafe miel tasted better than ever!

Spiffy environment with some creative drink options beyond your standard coffee and espresso. The murals on the walls are super cool. My one complaint is that those creative espresso drinks were heavily weighted toward chocolate/mocha-based. But it’s all tasty, which is what matters.

Awesome coffee shop! I especially love their Black Splash when I need something with a big kick. Their Agave Latte is pretty awesome as well. It's also a nice and cozy place to sit down, have a cup of your favorite drink, and hang with friends.

The chorizo and egg empanada is stuffed and delicious. The rainbow sprinkle donut is on an old fashioned base and one of the better donuts I’ve had in the city. The best though, was my latte. It was absolutely perfect.

Nice location. Friendly staff. Food so so. I had poached eggs with wheat toast and grits. Eggs were over cooked and served with lots of water. Toast was fine if a little cold. Same with the cappuccino. You order, pay then they bring you food to your table. That last step too longer than I believe it should have, which is likely why it arrived colder than acceptable

  • 5/5 Jacob B. 4 years ago on Google
GREAT coffee bar, and extremely close to Union Station. The barista behind the counter was extremely helpful and friendly with her recommendations, and represented the Dark Matter brand well. We ended up with a cortado served in a blood red chalice, a barrel aged mocha (which also was incredible), and an iced oat milk latte. They have a diverse range of beans available for sale, as well as branded merchandise with great artwork on them, including mugs and t shirts. The bourbon flavor of the barrel aged beans in the mocha added a unique depth of flavor. I will gladly go back to this shop, and look forward to visiting the other DM coffee shops in future trips to Chicago.

This cafe was trying to sell a french press set for 90.00 that was 54.00 online!!! Asked to exchange a bag of coffee that was unopened that was purchased the day before because it was the wrong blend and clerk refused. I asked to speak to manager and told her I did not HAVE to go here because there were many other options online and that I was asking to exchange the bag I bought yesterday with a different blend. Most cafe's would gladly allow it to keep a customer. Not this manager (who was not really communicating clearly to me - plus the added muffling with a mask). When I said I was not happy with not being able to exchange my purchase, she finally offered a refund to me, but followed it with "you are going to have treat our staff better." May I remind her that her staff mixed a recent order up about 2 weeks ago and had to remake the coffee as I ordered it. Stores who goof your order up usually offer you SOMETHING as compensation for your time and good customer service. I asked if I could have the medium cup of coffee that was wrong (because I was going to give it to a coworker and perhaps win them another customer). He said, "No. It will not go to waste." Really POOR customer service. Really POOR customer service from the "manager" today who said she is a "part owner." Perhaps the owner should offer some customer service classes to their "part owners" and "other" staff who do not know how to keep customers. After I told the "part owner" I would not return, she told me I was "banned" from returning. Sorry.. I just TOLD YOU I was NOT coming back! You lost TWO customers..... spending minimum of $90 per week. I have never seen more than 2 or 3 customers in this store. I guess you can afford to lose some. SMH. Peets Coffee at Chicago Union Station has a new customer!

Walked a few blocks to get here, and was greeted by a unique space filled with wonderful aromas. The seating here is VERY limited, and the space is quite echo-y, with nothing really there to absorb the sound. The regular coffee is regular drip brewed, so if you're looking for pour-over, this isn't the place. At least I didn't see that as an option. The most positive note was the wide array of locally roasted coffees available for sale. Including some collaboration with Heavy Metal magazine, and a line for the band Mastodon as well. Overall, a good place to get a cup of coffee, but nothing really stood out one way or the other.
