As much as I'm a fan of the gym, I'm extremely over the valet. They have been giving me a "you don't belong here" vibe for the entire year that I've been a member. I've 1) heard snarky remark about not being diagonal enough in my spot 2) watched one guy only hold the parking pass by the tip of his fingers like the black was going to rub off on him 3) gotten hostile stares from a third one. Then yesterday one rep just refused to let me into the lot. I repeatedly asked him was the lot full. While blocking the entrance, he kept yelling about me having to park on the street. I asked why. He could never respond. He just kept repeating to park on the street. Finally I drove around him. He blocked the entrance even more. I asked for at least the fifth time was the lot full. His response, "Are you going in the gym?" Why in the WORLD would I be driving into the entrance if I wasn't going into the gym? All the front desk people know me. At least a handful of instructors know me by name, and one even screams my name out if he sees me from across the gym. There is no possible way he does not know I'm a member when I hand a pass to this man at least three to four times a week. I am super over it. There's only so many times that I can just ignore what seems like passive aggressive racism (or at least profiling) from this valet group. ------------------------- On a separate note, and when I park on the street instead of the parking lot, it's all love. My favorite classes are WERQ and Zumba with Shanae (who ALWAYS nails the routines and makes me want to dance harder), WERQ with Spencer (who is surprisingly upbeat on a Saturday morning) and Pilates with Rachel (whose class I've been consistently going to since I joined). I like Shauna B's yoga classes, mainly because it's more about stretching and toning and less about tricks. I've gone to a bunch of other yoga classes, but I just honestly don't care about standing on my head or backbends. I just want functional flexibility, and she's my ideal yoga instructor. Although I didn't last in kickboxing, Jason is always pleasant, friendly and precise. He means business in his classes, and I tried as much as possible to pay attention to all of his self-defense techniques. I highly recommend at least giving his class a shot. I'm far more of a dance/yoga/pilates person, but he's dope. The gym itself is cool. I lose interest in being on treadmills, stationary bikes and weight machines after awhile, but the rebounder is fun to jump on. Personally I like this gym more for the classes. But I have had it up to here with the parking reps. I seriously considered renewing my annual membership, but I'm furious with the parking attendants. At this point, I'd rather find another gym where I can just park in the parking lot and not deal with them at all.

Cheetah Gym is great! It's clean, not sterile, beautiful woodwork, nice staff. All the equiptment, of course. And superb location - no excuse not to hit the gym before a hang in Andersonville!

Excellent location, great staff, new owners are doing a lot to improve an already amazing gym. Lots of new equipment, trainers, programming... I love having this space available in our neighborhood!

Argumentative management toward potential new clients is bad for business. I guess he forgot that he manages a service providing company. Nevertheless gym is small, not much muscle building equipment for loading, just the BASICS. Steam room but no sauna, saunas are what you want for muscles not a steam room. Limited leg equipment and back equipment. Ridiculous policies and way too high of a price for membership compared to what they offer. Not to mention the rude and clueless management. If the owner reads this, do yourself a favor and hire someone who actually works out that can relate to people who actually use a gym. Not some unfit guy that doesn’t even lift/train. And make sure they actually have a personality to handle new potential clients. The one you have now is costing you money! *Business owner to business owner

Great place! Unique feel for a gym, has a lot of space and access to machines. There's also at least two bags in different spots if you'd like a bit of practice, although the one in the studio space is sometimes unavailable if a class is happening when you drop by.

Would love to rate this neighborhood gym more stars but the price (which does no include classes like other gyms) does not match the service and facilities. The steam room has been closed for months without an update. Since the gym has limited amenities and is priced similarly as the higher end gyms in Chicago. I would hope it would properly maintain the amenities it does have in working order.

It's really been cleaned up & run well in recent years. The hours and location make it ideal for my family. The equipment is a bit old and dated but always in working order. The staff couldn't be nicer & always willing to work with people to resolve any issues.

Cheetah Gym is one of the best in the city, as someone who's belonged to several different gyms, Cheetah is home. From the rotation of equipment out to new classes being offered constantly, there's something for everyone here. Yes, it's a bit more than "corporate gyms" but the customer service you get more than makes up for the difference. I could spend hours talking about the personal trainers and how personable they are and how knowledgeable they are, but that may have to be saved for an updated review. I wanted to call out the front desk, especially Nich, as being the GOLD STANDARD in customer success. I would happily poach him if I could afford him, as he writes the binder on customer experience. What an absolute gem, I can't write enough about how even after I moved, I stayed with Cheetah since their customer experience is second to none. He really makes my morning when I walk in, and makes the day great when I'm heading out. Sean and him are one of the greatest front desk tandems in history, book it. Go to Cheetah with confidence, you won't be disappointed.

Just started a one-year full-time student membership and I’m loving it! Nobody hogs equipment, people are considerate of their surroundings, and are consistent with wiping down equipment after each use. I also appreciate the amount of space in this gym— you never feel cramped in a corner when you’re working out. I love the tall ceilings + windows. If you’re interested, you can tour the place with one of the managers anytime— someone’s always around to give a tour + answer questions. You also get a free workout to try it out! I highly recommend doing so :)

I’ve been a member since 2000! And have been taking Tomoko’s yoga classes every week since around 2005. She is amazing. Kevin’s Pilates classes are equally as good. The gym continues to be a solid, consistently clean, better than your average neighborhood gym! Thank you, Angie!

I've belonged to Cheetah Gym for 3.5 years. It has a great community and is welcoming to everyone. For being an independent neighborhood gym, they also attract some great instructors for strength training, dance fitness, and spin. The bathrooms and amenities in the locker room could be improved but I've much enjoyed my time being a member here. Much more so than LA Fitness where I was a member for only a couple of years.

I usually hate gyms-the macho guys mean mugging people, the grunting, the people on the treadmill that don't wipe it down after running a marathon...they reminded me of middle school politics and performance with a whole lot of sweat. These are the reasons I left gyms for 8 years. and But then I joined Cheetah gym. It has none of that toxic, vapid gym culture! The people that work there & work out there are really nice. It's a friendly, positive culture of wellness that encourages you to become a healthy version of yourself at your own pace. The classes are fun, and the instructors are patient and kind. they help you get out of your comfort zone. The equipment & workout space is always pristine. The community that works out there always reracks weights, wipes down machines and really takes as much pride in the space as the excellent staff does. It's an excellent workout experience and it's a place I look forward to going to everyday. Can't recommend Cheetah gym enough.

I can't believe I've been visiting my mom in the neighborhood for years without stopping here. Really affordable 1 week or 1 month non-contractual passes for visitors, great classes, solid amenities (i.e. steam room, lockers, etc.). Can't wait to re-up my temporary pass next time I'm in the city. Friendly staff, never too crowded, and all of the equipment is in fantastic condition. Helped make my winter break a great one.

I have loved working out at Cheetah gym since I moved to the area. It is very clean, has a wide variety of equipment, and rarely feels crowded. The parking is a big plus! I also had a few free training sessions after I joined and I thought the training was excellent. My one complaint is that the guest wifi is very spotty and could definitely be upgraded or expanded as it only works on occasion or in some areas of the gym. Overall a great experience.

Love the vibe at this place - old building with lots of exposed wood and brick. Usually not too crowded when I would go in the morning. Unfortunately, I had to get a membership elsewhere due to moving away - but the cancellation process was also completely painless and uncomplicated.

This place is outstanding, the clientele are super nice, the employees are very nice and seem to enjoy working at this place. The equipment is clean and functional for sure. The whole place oozes a friendly atmosphere. You really look forward to coming to this place to workout. Even though I am a poor broke down old soldier, the price is just right. Keep up the good work Cheetah gym!

I'd rather support these guys than a national chain for sure. There's a solid amount of in-person classes, and I never feel like I'm battling it out for equipment. Safety protocols are taken seriously, and the staff is great about hygiene. Good value, and they've made a lot of progress toward opening up the remodeled hot sauna.

Love it here! The classes and trainers are fantastic! When I first started going I lost 20lbs in 3 months! Of course you have to work hard but it's so worth it. I also trained with wesley, he taught me a lot that I apply when I workout alone. Jason is a phenomenal trainer as well, he teaches muay thai and a weekend warrior class, great way to start your day. Tracy has bootcamp classes that will push you. Jack- omg his classes will kick your butt but they're worth it, he works on building strength and agility. With critter you'll do a variety of different things each week; TRX, kettlebell, medicine ball etc and help tone. Deborah ab classes are to die for! My core became so strong and my obliques started showing-I love her classes. The daycare workers are so attentive and great with children and rest of staff is awesome. The gym itself has a wide variety of equipment, barbells go up to 100#, dumbbells go to 60# maybe more. An area where you can do TRX and abs, soo many squat racks, battle ropes, stretching area, bands, medicine balls and my fave, a punching bag. There's also an area where you can spare and they have everything you will need. I also love when I was working out by myself, a trainer gave me some pointers-shout out to Justin! Can't wait to get back there! I had to take 4 months off due to pregnancy complications but in July I'll be back!

This gym is great! Never too busy when I go, which is what I prefer. Great service and friendly staff; I don't even pay for a trainer but their trainers have talked to me and always greet me with and know me by name. They also care about the community and offer local business and teacher membership discounts.

Cheetah Gym is great! I was a member for over a year (only stopped because I moved across the country). The facilities were always clean and there was always plenty of equipment available. Not too much in the way of trendy bells and whistles, but they have everything you need to work out: free weights, barbells, cardio equipment, etc. The vintage decor is unique and interesting. Staff are uniformly friendly and helpful. My favorite part of the gym were the group exercise classes. They have them at a wide variety of times to accommodate different schedules. Instructors were never judgmental and made an effort to work with people at different fitness levels while still providing a challenging workout. My only criticism of this gym was that sometimes the upper floor got very warm. Perhaps the older building is not well set up for air conditioning? But the benefits of this gym far outweigh the negatives.

The best gym in Andersonville / Edgewater / Ravenswood. Gym is extra clean and you get towels. Since the pandemic everyone get sanitizer sprayer and towels to wipe equipment and everyone is doing it. Also love the layout it’s perfect for super sets. Even during rush hrs it’s not as busy as other chain gyms around. They have many different classes you can enjoy, from rumba, spin to yoga. There is also section for CrossFit like training. Highly recommend them.

This place keeps closing earlier and earlier. They used to close at 11pm. Then 10pm. Then 9pm. Tonight they flicked the lights and turned the music off at 8:47 when people were still in the middle of their workouts. Otherwise, it’s a great place. I think the early morning guests would freak if they started opening later and later.

I’m really enjoying this gym so far. Very friendly staff. They are also really making the effort when it comes to keeping clients and staff safe. I feel safer there than I do in the grocery store. Masks are required, everyone gets a bottle of spray disinfectant to bring with them, and it really feels like everyone cares. It’s a nice open feeling space with great people.

It's not state of the art or luxurious, but it meets my needs. There are a wide variety of classes on the schedule including day time classes, which are great for me as I work from home. So far, my favorite instructors are Charlie W for Mixxed Fit, Kevin R for Pilates, Tracey G for WERQ, and Nicole for Cardio kickboxing (a demanding class!). There are still many instructors I have yet to try. Front desk staff are very nice. There is a bad smell in the lobby area - they need to work on that.

I come here regularly. It’s never very crowded, the facilities are great. Some aging equipment but it looks like they’re working on getting them up to date. The people are really nice and the employees leave you alone. There is a large LGBT+ crowd there, but you wouldn’t think twice about it, again, because everyone’s so nice. They try to keep the place clean. Sometimes there’s a funky odor coming thru the place but it’s not their fault, I don’t think. Location is great, right in the heart of downtown Andersonville, with a parking lot in the back.
