    Terrible customer service. If I could give 0 stars I would. I am a president's circle member at Hertz and I got the worst service from the Manager Andy. The actual car I got was filthy. Don't even think these guys clean the cars that well. When asked to change, I was told very rudely by Andy to go rent it at the airport instead. Are you kidding me? No accommodations for premium members, I don't even know how the non members are treated. Avoid this location at all costs! Worst experience at Hertz. I am however a loyal Hertz member because their amazing customer service and rewards program. Won't let this location ruin my relationship with Hertz. Hopefully they change the management at this location. I work for a prominent IT firm and rest assured I'll be telling all my peers about this terrible experience.

    This location can't be trusted. I've rented many vehicles from them, and based on various shady dealings, I've come to the conclusion that they can't be trusted! Watch your receipt carefully and NEVER allow them to just email your receipt. They will charge you for gas, eventhough you've filled it upon return, and they pile numerous charge to your bill. Do business at your own risk!

    The office has few cars, when I went I asked to the staff by chance one of them speak Spanish, after that the treatment they gave us was hateful. Only use this Hertz office because was near my hotel. The office hours to return the car are uncomfortable and do not allow you to return the car through the mailbox 24 hours a day, which forces you to conserve time that you do not need and pay for very expensive parking.

    I had the most bizarre experience dropping our rental off. There were two other customers in the shop when I walked in and neither seemed to be in the middle of being assisted. So I asked one staff member if he was available to help me out. He didn’t say yes but started to ask me a few questions, which I answered. During the exchange he, with an attitude, repeated every single one of my answers back to me in the form of a rhetorical question. The entire time he seemed clear-headed, and quick to respond, not seemingly challenged in anyway, which made the rudeness very unexpected. As I stood there baffled, he suddenly started yelling at me “I’m just trying to help you out! I don’t know why it has to be a problem!” Utterly confused, I asked back “I didn’t think there was a problem, do we have a problem?” He didn’t answer but then started to process my drop-off and I was out in less than 5 min. It was a mildly annoying experience that didn’t really amount much to my day but if I had an option I would live without it. One star.

    Never go to this location. They did not scan my car in when I returned it, leading Hertz to charge me for overdue days. Despite multiple attempts to call and contact by myself as well as the customer service team at Hertz (which was equally terrible) - the location never picked up or responded. It was so bad that I had to go in person - take a day off of work and travel BACK to the location, to ask them to finally close out my contract. No one at the location could solve this problem - no one at customer service could solve this problem - a problem of their own doing might I add - and fix myself. This location is horrible and I will no longer be a Hertz customer as a result of this atrocious experience. STAY AWAY.

    I was concered about renting from this place due to the reviews. However, I decided to give it a go, since it was more convenient than going to O'Hare. Pros of My Experience: 1. No line when I picked up the car, the car was ready, and I was able to leave relatively quickly. 2. Car was fine -- a bit dirty in the inside, but mostly clean and in good condition otherwise. Cons of My Experience: 1. There ARE hidden fees. When I asked the guy at the front desk what the fee was, he just read off what it said on the receipt, without any other information. 2. You cannot return the car outside of business hours. Overall, I would rent from these guys again. People don't typically review their Rental Car Agent -- like they would a favorite restaurant. So I think that the reviews here are much more negatively skewed than, say, a restaurant is. Be prepared for the worst (long lines, cars not being available), but I think you'll find a decent experience like I did.

    Such a bad experience… we had a reservation months in advance! And when we arrived the car wasn’t there. They offered us a Tesla, a Tesla!! To make the route 66… as we said no, they gave us a F150… huge truck without a real trunk for the luggage. From bad to worst… then we had to wait for almost 1h to finally get a “normal” car with its trunk and everything… so disappointing to have this experience with Hertz. I thought it was a serious company. I don’t recommend it and I don’t think I will ever rent a car with them again. They delayed our departure from Chicago a lot! Even with an advanced reservation and payment. We finally got a car, we will see how it goes. The worst part was the attitude and bad faces of the woman attending us… on the top of it!

    walked in to find two employees watching tv on their phones. I had to interrupt one's tv show to tell them I had a reservation and was there to pick up my car. He responded "oh, we're all sold out for today." Seems like they don't quite understand the definition of a reservation. Luckily I didn't have to interrupt the other employee's show/movie and she was laughing and have a grand time. Scary that some businesses operate like this.

    The worst customer service I have ever received. When I arrived at the Hertz location at 401 N. State Street, in Chicago, IL 60610 the car that I reserved was given to someone else. (I rented a car to attend a wedding in another city, so now I am late getting on the road and missed the wedding.) There were no cars available when I arrived at this Hertz State street location. After waiting 20 minutes the next available car was a Tesla, but it only had a 25% charge on the battery, and this Hertz location has NO electric car chargers. . .WHY would the Hertz sales assoc. even offer an electric car knowing they DON'T have an electric car charging station conveniently located in their parking lot. So I had to take the Tesla car around the city to find the "supercharge" station which was located inside another parking garage. That "supercharge" machine still took forever to charge the Tesla. We needed at least 9 hours for a FULL CHARGE. By this time it was 1:52 PM and I had to rush back to the Hertz location at State street before they closed at 2 pm, to get a different car because the Tesla was not working out and causing me to be MORE LATE to the wedding that I spent money on attending. I will NEVER rent from Hertz again & definitely not from this location!

    I tried to rent a car at this Hertz agency. The girl was really rude and impolite. Initially, there were only large cars available, but after a discussion, she suddenly refused to give me the car, claiming there were no more cars available. It was a really bad experience.

    I am extremely disappointed with the lack of customer care exhibited by Hertz Rental Company, and I feel utterly wronged by their actions. From start to finish, my experience with Hertz has been nothing short of a nightmare. Firstly, customer service representatives have consistently displayed a complete disregard for my concerns and inquiries. Whenever I have reached out for assistance or clarification, I am met with apathy and a dismissive attitude. It is as if they simply do not care about resolving any issues that may arise during the rental process. This lack of attentiveness and empathy is not what one would expect from a reputable company. Furthermore, Hertz has repeatedly failed to fulfill their promises and commitments. On numerous occasions, This level of unprofessionalism is inexcusable, causing significant inconvenience and disruption to my plans. It is unacceptable for a company to steal money from my family. Additionally, Hertz has shown a complete disregard for the condition of their rental cars. On multiple occasions, I have been provided with vehicles that had strong smell of cigarettes, I was given a vehicle that hasn’t been serviced causing flat tire that I’m now liable to pay that makes no sense. This not only reflects a lack of care for their fleet but also poses a significant safety risk to customers. It is outrageous that Hertz would allow their cars to be in such a deplorable state, putting the well-being of their customers at stake. Overall, my experience with Hertz has been nothing short of a disheartening and frustrating ordeal. The lack of customer care, failure to fulfill reservations, and negligence in maintaining the vehicles have left me feeling completely wronged. I would strongly urge others to reconsider renting from Hertz, as their disregard for customer satisfaction is evident and unacceptable.

    Had a 2 day rental that I returned more than 2 hours late so they charged me for a full extra day, fine, BUT also charged me a late fee on top of the extra day even though I'd only returned it a few hours late. On top of that they charged me more per day on the invoice then I was quoted on the rental agreement and charged more for taxes. VERY shady business practices. I'll never be renting from Hertz again and suggest no one else does either.

    Hello, I rented a car in Chicago and requested 3 car seats I learned on the day of the reservation they were not available. I was instructed by the rental staff that I could purchase car seats myself and be reimbursed by the general manager. I paid $42 for parking and $695 for car seats in the middle of Chicago. When I returned the car today they said they could not authorize more than $50

    Hertz Gold customer for years. Latest rental required LIS even though credit card covers this. The clerk asked for policy number of insurance. Told the cc covered it. Said to take it up with corporate. When corporate was notified, was told we signed the contract and there was nothing they could do. No more Hertz

    Probably the worst rental station I have ever been serviced by ( Sep 2022 ): Both employees were not very motivated, despite reservation the reserved vehicle category was not available. So vehicle keys were pushed back and forth until one had agreed on a vehicle. I was greeted by the vehicle with the message "low fuel", so I first had to refuel. The vehicle was not cleaned ( seats were clean ). At my first stop of my trip I bought glass cleaner for the windows. The front windshield wiper blades merely smeared raindrops and the rear windshield wiper blade was torn. The Hertz employees at the vehicle return LAX Airport have been very service orientated: they have subsequently apologized for the empty tank, were grateful for the tip that the wiper blades need to be replaced and an oil change is due.

    DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!! I returned my rental 7 days ago and they still haven't closed out my contract. I've called customer service 5 times and spoke to the facility but no one will call me back or close out my contract. My credit card has been charged over $1,000 and the Hertz Corporation or this specific facility will NOT help. Go to a different location if you can.

    The absolute worst location. Rented a car yesterday and pick up was fine. My drop off time was scheduled for 10:30am, I dropped the car off in the garage at 10:13am and they have the audacity to charge me extra hours?! I returned the car on time, WTH?!

    DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ!!! I reserved a car a few days ago with Hertz, and got a call from them this morning (1 hour before scheduled pick-up time) saying that they didn't have any cars. So, they overbooked, and there are no other Hertz cars in Chicago available for a week. Here's an excerpt from the message I received from Hertz this morning (again, 1 hour before pick-up time): "I deeply apologize, sir, but we are experiencing a massive shortage...and it looks like all the Hertz locations are suffering from this shortage" Hertz is "suffering" from this "massive shortage" of cars because of massive overbooking to maximize profit, with no concern for ruining customers' plans. I called the Hertz toll-free number, and the agent offered nothing for compensation for this colossal inconvenience. ***DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ***

    I made a reservation three months prior and received a call the morning of that they did not have a vehicle for me. I could not believe how unprofessional this was. No real apology, just a "Sorry, there aren't any cars for you." A group of us had a wedding to attend and were now screwed out of a car that we could not find anywhere due to the shortage of vehicles. What's the point of making a reservations with Hertz if they just give up your vehicle? Such a terrible experience.

    Been a loyal customer for years until today’s visit. Got to the location 30 minutes early to be told that they have no car for me. The lady in the small cubicle told me she tried to call me at 6:30 in the morning then went on to say my number was not valid. Why the lie? I’ve been a loyal member for years and received calls with the number on my profile. This location has been struggling with shortage of cars. Past three reservations, I had to wait an additional hour past my pick up time and received a car that I did not request. Go to a different Hertz or jump ship to a different rental company.

    Renting a car with this Hertz location has been incredibly hassle free. I made a reservation and checked in online. Walked into the building at 7:55am (for an 8am reservation) and actually drove out 10 min later. Super efficient and very friendly staff. I don't know when I'll visit Chicago again, but I will definitely rent a car from Hertz State Street.

    I had a wonderful experience with hertz at O'Hare. Pick up was super easy with their gold rewards membership and drop off was so easy. I even forgot to leave the keys and a hertz employee ran after me and found me on the train to the terminal to get the key from me. She went above and beyond to help me traveling alone with 2 little kids I was overwhelmed and forgot the key. I will rent from hertz again. The car was also newer and super clean when I got it. She even said don't worry about the trash and kid crumbs they would clean it no problem.

    I was in Chicago during Lapoloosa. When special events are going on, you can expect jacked up prices. I thought their pricing was decent. Didn't seen too out of whack. I also liked their hours. Early morning and late p.m. I also had a dispute re: insurance. It appears that they double billed me. After speaking with customer service, they removed it. Mistakes happen, but what counts in my book is how you handle it. Hertz has a new customer.

    Lady at front desk was very rude. Would not let me use their restroom. Walked to 7-11- no public restroom…walked to subway-no public restroom. Solicited for money 3 times and asked forcefully to buy someone cigarettes. Very seedy people in the area. Hertz obviously knows this. Provide a restroom jerks!

    The suv I booked came with no cover over luggage at the back, so a major security risk. I was told that Hertz do no provide them. So I changed to another car - Malibu - that had cigarette ash in the front and had not been cleaned properly. Also, I noticed 20 mins into the journey, only a quarter of a tank of petrol when I had booked full to full. I felt really let down by Hertz.

    If I could give this place negative stars I would. Do not go here to get a rental! Rented a car had it for two days & it broke down they left us stranded because their emergency assistance is a joke! We paid out of pocket for a tow and they still won’t help!! Terrible service! Better off elsewhere even with insurance they are terrible and lie on their daily rates.

    We reserved a medium sized SUV and waited for over an hour for a vehicle to arrive. When it did it was a small SUV in less than sparkling condition. It appears this facility is inept at properly ordering what is reserved by customers and then has to deal with a lot of anger. The employees who work here look aggravated and annoyed, don’t smile or offer extra friendliness or information to defuse customer’s obvious hassle. A sales person did not examine car with us to check for preexisting dings or issues and make sure we were comfortable with it. (Enterprise always assists customers to cars, makes sure all is to satisfaction). In other words, this facility has very poor management and poor employee training. You need to properly order cars reserved, train employees to problem solve and extend friendly care to customers (ie a discount for the trouble to wait), offer a cold water or soda. Really shotty and unprofessional operation here.

    Thanks for your help and support ☺️☺️💟💞 you have been doing a great job with your leasing cars wonderful customer service and clean cars from inside and outside some hidden veases if you need more protection and more incurance verses for better protections just in case and liability insurances for better protection the best deals is to rent for entire week better than rent the car for couple of days it will be shipper and pay for full gas prices the day you get the car because after one week the prices will go up my advice to them to increase the sales is discounted plans work for one day or 3 days or 5 days or one week or two weeks or lease for entire month and each bundle offer has special categories and discounts if you put a safety device to measure your speed of the car for example and also no accident report at the end of leasing gives you points you can you use it for the next lease during the entire year ... And bonus points system when you have 2 drivers drive the car that is more safety because if the first driver was tired the second driver will drive the car and you can avoid any car accident And do not forget how many milage you drive thanks for your wonderful experience Best regards Mj shackour

    I can’t give zero stars but i could if it it was possible. They called me less than a day before my reservation to tell me they don’t have the truck to fit my dads handicap equipment into. I booked it one month in advance and went in one week before the trip go double check they had the truck. Then when I asked how they are going to fix it I was hung up on over the phone.

    I was there the Sunday before Labor Day this year and the local agents were fantastic. We were in and out in just a couple minutes w zero issues or delays. I've actually never had a rental car experience be so delightful. So shout out to the two ladies who helped.

    I rented a vehicle from the 401 N State Hertz office. When I put in for the rental I opted out for the insurance because I have insurance. I showed my insurance card to the reservation person and he reassured me that I would not be charged for insurance. When I returned the vehicle the guy was not in the office and they charged me 75.00 for insurance. I called customer service and they refused the change. Hertz is making extra money by charging people who have insurance. Don't rent from this site they are not right.

    You charged me 18$ for fuel charge even though I returned the car with a full tank. Not to mention, you did not provide me with a full tank (photo was taken at the parking garage before your employee took the vehicle).

    Worst customer service ever the overweight fella in the front desk makes me come back 3 separate times and was still unable to rent me a car. Holding back information that costed me time and money, had I known all the details beforehand I would’ve saved time and money. What a waste of employee

    Horrible customer service! I rented a vehicle for Thanksgiving weekend this year. I was scheduled to pickup my vehicle to travel home on Wednesday night. Less than 3 hours before my reservation was scheduled, a guy from this Hertz location calls saying “don’t come in to pick-up your vehicle, there’s no cars available”. He acted as if he was doing me a favor. I asked what he suggests I do and he says “you can call the airport to see if there’s vehicles available”. I highly recommend against renting from this location. Your reservation is not guaranteed and they have horrible customer service.
