Fabulous archaeological finds including Neolithic Phoenicians and Roman or from the Cadiz area. Unfortunately few of the exhibits had English translations which made putting items into context difficult. Well worth the visit does it cost nothing

A museum covering the local area, while mostly in Spanish (some in English). It is interesting to get an understanding of how the ancient city looked

3 floors of artifacts and art, the highlight by far being the artifacts on the first floor. The artifacts incredibly range from Neolithic to Roman eras. Especially love the story behind the 2 pre Roman sarcophagi, the male one discovered first by an archeologist who was convinced there was a female counterpart, but never found it while he lived. After he died, a team found the female version under the archeologist's house!

Seems to be under construction in some parts but it's a free museum with really great artifacts, especially from the Roman Era. Doesn't seem to be any AC so it could be warm when you visit. Despite our ship being in port, there was no one there.

Definitely recommend stopping here if you’ve got a couple hours to spare in Cadiz. It was eye-opening to see how much history this place has, and very helpful that there were guides and videos in English as well. My wife and I kind of stumbled upon it and it was easily the best €10-12 we spent that day. Just a note, google maps will take you to the employee entrance on the side which you cannot enter. Instead, go towards the nearest plaza and you will find the unassuming entrance.

Great museum to spend some quiet time. Archeology and fine arts. Lift available to 1st floor from ground. WCs. I believe EU people get in free but check that. As a non EU I paid only 1.50 euro which is excellent value. Steps up to the main entrance but a little to your left is a ramp up. Located in the beautiful Plaza de Mins.

I am amazed that a town of 100K people has such a wonderful and rich museum! An impressive archive of archeological artifacts, combined with a beautiful and rich art collection. Of course, having over three millennia of history, and having been a cultural-economic center of Spain helped a lot.

(Translated by Google) Archaeological museum with exceptional pieces of Phoenician, Punic, Roman and Arab origin in an excellent state of conservation. Its location is close to the Roman Theater and the archaeological site of Cádiz, so all three sites can be visited in the same day. Obligatory visit in Cádiz. I wasn’t able to really see most of the museum because they were closing for siesta, but the museum receptionist let me come in and walk around the entryway, and got to see the inside of the Teatro, as well as some excavations and a viewing of the underground archaeology site from the entry level. It looks fascinating and definitely would be something to visit.

(Translated by Google) A unique and merely recommended visit on the afternoon of Wednesday January 13 that we spent in the Museum of Cádiz, history on the four sides of the three-thousand-year-old city wishing to repeat the visit and delve into content, special paragraph on the Phoenician sarcophagi, pure legend, but what The most pleasant of the visit was the special treatment and attention of the staff, especially a very nice young woman who was attentive and pleasant throughout our stay. Some interesting exhibits. Worth a visit. Think a lot of it was closed when we went. Hard to tell. The trees outside are amazing, staff really helpful. Not a lot written in English which makes it tricky for my Spanish when we got to the more complex pieces.

A very small museum. Cadiz history is soooooo large that it deserves 5 times a bigger one. Another thing is that only a few items have the creation date, very important to notice human stone and metal manufacturing evolution.

  • 5/5 Josu C. 2 years ago on Google
This small museum is housed in a neoclassic palace.Although its collections are varied, and its section of painting from the Golden Century has works by such masters as Zurbaran, Ribera or Morales, it is in its archaeological room that a visit becomes truly memorable. Outstanding in themselves are two Phoenician anthropomorphic sarcophagus of the 5th to 1st centuries A.D, the photographs of which have been reproduced innumerable times in European History of Art books

  • 5/5 Diana Claudia S. 10 months ago on Google
I was impressed with how complex the collection was and how well it represented each of the periods in the history of Cadiz! The sheer number of ancient artefacts and how well they have been preserved is amazing, I definitely recommend visiting, it gave me a deeper understanding of the history and culture of the region. The experience within the museum was very enjoyable and the staff very extremely welcoming and helpful.

It's free for EU citizens. Not so interesting, expecially for children. Stones, vases, jewelleries and other objects from stone times up to the Romans. And many paintings of different styles (but without any connection to Cádiz history!). Every description is in Spanish! I recommend better to visit Yacimiento Archeoligico Gadir as this museum!

  • 5/5 Zoe L. 2 years ago on Google
Nice museum with interesting collections student can go for free, the local government should definitely spend more money on maintaining and upgrading the museum. The route of viewing is not quite clear, and most of the captions are only in Spanish.

Amazing museum, and lo S of history involved and well. Preserved, 3 floors where 1st floor is all related to humas history since homosapien times, and evolving to modern era. Lots of discoveries from Roman times in spain and the region 2nd floor is fine arts and frescos paintings and 3rs floor is modern paintings. 1.50 euros to enter and so much to discover. Weake it to Baelo Claudia as a complement to the site of discoveries where this colossal statues where found. A must to visit.

Liked the display and layout but disappointed with the level of information in any language around us in each room stood Dutch, French and english people struggling with the minimal Spanish only attachments with the exhibits! So sad to miss out on these amazing discoveries and the history behind them 😏🇪🇸

It tells the story of the city from 10000 bc to the 12th century based on excavated items. The galleries are well laid out and the information is very interesting. A second floor contains fine art, and there is a temporary exhibit area as well. Most interesting is it's free to enter.
