烏帽子岩(姥島)は、茅ヶ崎の海岸から約1200m沖にある、東西約600m、南北約400mに広がる複数の岩の岩礁群です。 一番高い、高さ20mの岩の形状が烏帽子に似ているので、烏帽子岩と呼ばれています。 太平洋戦争前は、岩の先端部が今よりも長く伸びていて、もっと烏帽子に似ていたそうですが、戦後に在留アメリカ軍の射撃訓練の標的にされて銃弾で削られてしまい、今の形状になったそうです。 茅ヶ崎市のシンボル的な存在で、茅ヶ崎市のマスコットキャラクターが烏帽子をかぶった「えぼし麻呂くん」だったり、多くの茅ヶ崎市民から愛されている岩です。 岩礁の周囲は魚が多い漁場で、磯釣りや、シュノーケリング、スキューバダイビングのポイントとしても人気です。 茅ヶ崎漁港から渡船で烏帽子岩に行けますが、SUPやカヤック、水上オートバイなどで訪れる方もよく見かけます。
