Had an amazing time with family here. Moreover got to see a true living giant. I mean, its really huge. "KANNIMARA TEAK IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST LIVING TEAK TREE FOUND IN PARAMBIKULAM TIGER RESERVE. ACCORDING TO THE LOCAL TRIBAL BELIEF WHEN THIS TREE WAS TRIED TO CUT DOWN. THE BLOOD WAS SPURTED OUT FROM THE PLACE OF CUT SINCE THEN THIS TREE WAS WORSHIPPED BY THE LOCAL TRIBALS IN PARAMBIKULAM AS "VIRGIN TREE" THUS THE NAME KANNIMARA IS GIVEN AS THE WORD "KANNI" MEANS "VIRGIN". THIS TREE HAS BEEN AWARDED "MAHAVRIKSHA PURASKAR" BY THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA DURING 1994-95." HEIGHT: 39.98 Meter AGE: 465 YEARS APPROXIMATELY GIRTH AT BREAST HEIGHT :7.15 Meter MEASURED ON:09-11-2017

Superb. Kannimaram/Kannimara Teak is a teak that is believed as the largest living teak tree of the world. The tree with girth of 6.57 m and height of 48.05 m is in Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary . This tree was awarded Maha Virksha puraskar by Government of India during 1994-95. It is calculated that tree is atleast 450 years old. Tribals of the area believe that when the tree was axed it started oozing blood from the location of the cut. From then on it is being called as a "Virgin Tree". Kannimaram is a compound word, which is formed of ‘Kanni’ which means “Virgin” and ‘maram’ means “tree”.

Oldest naturally grown teak tree in the world. Simply phenomenal giant tree. There are forest department mini buses through the parambikkulam reserve forest to reach here. A lot of monkey, deers and peacocks etc can be seen on the journey. The is kind of off road type. Finish everything before 6pm.

Beautiful old teak tree in the middle of the jungle. Quiet a ride to get to this place. We had to park our car at the Perambikulam car park and take the safari ride to get to this place. You can get this for Rs.300 per person and the ride is for 3 hours through the forest.

Really a wonder of nature.. it’s really huge in size. Many people should keep hands together to cover up around the tree. The trip through those rough roads was awesome

We visited Parambikulam Tiger reserve on May 31st for a day. Jungle Safari was our plan & we took the forest safari @ 10:30 am when a minimal crowd turned up. The safari started well with deer & elephant but couldn't see Gaur (Indian Bison) and tiger. They say only if you stay & visit safari early morning or late afternoon there is possible sights of tiger if you're lucky. We returned enjoyed the forest drive back home

It's an amazing fact about the age of this tree. Located in the deep teak forest. Nothing much to explore more here. If you're interested in botanical and historical things, it's worth to pay a visit. Parambikulam forest safari trip ends here.

The gentle giant! Kannimara Teak tree! The last living teak tree in the world and it has been awarded Mahaviruksha pushkar in the year 1994-1995. Located deep inside the jungle and the place is so clam and peaceful.
