Much needed Indian restaurant in the area. Food and service were excellent. I could foresee this will be a popular new addition!

While mourning the closing of "A Touch of Spice", the only Indian restaurant in our area, we found Gulab, a BYOB establishment that had opened in a quiet section of Palisade Avenue in Cliffside Park, NJ. And what a great surprise it's been so far! Although Gulab's menu may seem somewhat limited to others, it contains ALL the staples of Indian cuisine, made with good ingredients, in good portions, with incredible flavor and at very reasonable prices. On our first visit we were served a complimentary portion of home-made Papadum, Cilantro Chutney and Tamarind Sauce, and we ordered Chicken Somosa (2 pcs), for appetizer; Tandoori Mix Grill (a sampler of Chicken Tika, Chicken Malai Kebab, Lamb Seekh Kebab and Green-coated Shrimp--all grilled to perfection) and Chana Saag (creemy seasoned Spinach with Chickpeas), for main dishes, and Garlic Naan. The entrees came accompanied with Basmati Rice. Everything was super delicious and we knew at that moment that we would come back again soon. Our dinner tab (for 2) was approximately $60 (with tip included), which is more than reasonable. A few days later, we found ourselves dining at Gulab again and, for the last couple of months, we've been coming here, almost religiously, on a weekly basis. Honestly said, Gulab is that type of restaurant that grows and grows on you. In addition to the dishes mentioned before, we've tried others and our favorites are, so far: Chicken Malai Kebab, Samosa Chaat, Lentil Soup, Chicken Tika, Shrimp Saag, Chicken/Shrimp Biryani, Dal Tadka (a vegetarian dish of yellow lentils). All these items are big enough to share and, to our taste, their level of spiciness (which I guess can be adjusted upon request) is just right. Small, homey, with unpretentious decor, nice background music and friendly (and very pleasing) service, Gulab is where we get our "Indian fix" these days and we're delighted to recommend it to others too!

Great improvement over the previous restaurant at the same location. Excellent, high quality and very tasty veg and non-veg dishes. The server (owner?) was extremely attentive and offered advice regarding the heat of the dishes esp. the vindaloo which is amazingly spicy. After that first visit only about a week ago, I've since ordered out and will continue to do what I can to keep this place in business. Not easy to find good Indian food in this area of NJ. My only recommendation is to implement something of a double door system for the entry way. As it's a fairly small dining area, when it's as cold as it was outside that day, the blast of cold air, whenever someone walked in our out, was a bit much for me. Will see next time I stop by, but won't stop me either way given the quality/taste of the food.

Got the butter chicken and chicken saag. We were informed that the chicken saag is freshly made from spinach instead of frozen blended! Vegetable samosas were on the lighter side! We wish that they had a better deal to attract more customers as it just opened up a month ago! Attentive service!

Our new fave Indian restaurant. Fresh, quality ingredients with top notch service. We got the cheese naan, chana saag and chicken tikka. We will definitely be back! BYOB which is a plus!

Super authentic Indian food with great service. Vegetable samosa, chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani, garlic naan, and mango lassi are all delicious. Definitely coming back.

Update: I ordered their takeout on Uber. It was so delicious and the portions so satisfying, so nice of them! See pic.. The food was all so delicious and equally impressive was the service. The waiter was a very friendly young man. He even gave us a whole chicken biryani dish for free after I asked him what their most popular dishes are and chicken biryani was one of the most popular that I didn’t order. I highly recommend the somosa chaat and lamb biryani. Chicken tikka masala was awesome too. Saag paneer tasted a bit unimpressive though compared to the others. I highly recommend the place. Just know some dishes are authentically spicy (by my non-Indian heat tolerance standard)

👍 Excellent burger, cocktail and beer selection. There is a large section for outside seating. It’s great for people watching and nights that are warm. The pastas are okay, I would skip it.

😐 The food quality was not the best. My Gyro was dry and burnt so much it has no taste. I will not return. The price for 1 person with one drink was $27. Honestly that is very expensive for a place with such mediocre food. I don't recommend this restaurant.
