Well maintained museum following all COVID protocols. Entry fee is Rs. 10 (cash payment is not acceptable, only card payment) Ancient architecture of Stone house is one of the attraction. This small museum houses different species of stuffed animals & birds , old scripts and wood carvings. Also will get information about Nilgiri tribal life. Good place for students.

A well curated museum located up on a silent hill. A must visit with few people if you're around. Entry fee is Rs 5 for adults, Rs 20 for photography and free for school visits. The curators have done a good job. The preserved birds and mammals were amusing to observe.

One of the must watch tourist place in ooty. But some tourist guys didn't recommend this place. Entry fee is very cheap. This museum shows the objects used by the tribal people. Some wild animals and birds are exhibited. We can see some tribal people's lifestyle through photos. Bison statue is amazing. This museum is located near college ground.

A fine and well maintained Museum in Ooty. The entry for non-Indian adults is Rs 100, for Indian adults is Rs 15, for children is Rs 5 and is free for students. The museum itself is very small, which you can finish seeing in 30 mins. But it's absolutely entertaining to spend some time. You can see embalmed animals, birds, coin collections, details about various tribes, collection of some old tools. Overall, this is one of the finest museum I've ever visited!

Very nice place for museum enthusiasts. It is very less crowded and you can explore the museum peacefully. Entire fee is very less. Very neat and well maintained and staff is very calm. There are no washrooms. Good to gain knowledge on ancient tribes and tools used by them. You can see the pictures below.

The first bungalow which was built in Ooty is the Stone House. It was constructed by John Sullivan in 1822. Used to be called as Kal Bungalow by the locals, it was built on the land which was brought from the Toda people. Its an ancient architecture is worth seeing. Many tourists visit this place to have a glimpse of this bungalow.

This is old building used by the British and later converted into office and then finally turned into museum. It has an entry fee that can pe paid at the counter near the entrance. Better to carry cash it's 5/- per person and they don't usually prefer e-wallets or gpay etc. The indoor tour takes about 30 to 45 mins. To start with it is a beautiful building and holds the details of various tribes of the land. Their pottery, farming and clothes as well as traditions are described here. Various weapons used by them are also on display. Downstairs are the animals of the nilgiris. There is a brief about the founder of the British settlement John Sullivan. If one wants to know the brief history and what makes Udhgamamdalam, this is the place to go.

This is the first bungalow that was constructed in Ooty during pre British era which is now a museum. Stone House displays a collection of tribal art, weapons, Machinery, folk artifacts and fauna fossils specifically of Ooty region. It also has elements of cultural and religious importance. Stone House is a storehouse of information and knowledge with an entry fee of just Rs 5. The museum has been renovated and maintained well but needs better lighting. It's a great place for kids, families, photo enthusiasts, history buffs, and tourists alike.

This is the best place of Ooty. If you are someone who wants to dive deep into the historical roots this is the place. What people don’t realise is that this building is also the first ever building (The Stone house) ever built in Ooty by John Sullivan in 1819 after his expedition and discovery of ooty. Blessed to be here.

It is a well maintained Granite built house in the heart of Ooty. And there are many antics and stuffed real animals and birds showcased in well preserved manner. We can also see and study about the old tribal culture and people of Udhagamandalam district.

Ooty Stone House is one of the most important historic monuments of Ooty. Unofficially it was from the Ooty Stone House that the modernization of Ooty began. This is the first house to be constructed in Ooty. History of "modern" Ooty begins when the Collector of Coimbatore, John Sullivan, commissioned Keys and Mc Mahon, to survey and explore the place. Neither of them was ready for the visual treat lying before their eyes and not long after that Sullivan himself undertook an expedition to further explore the Ghats in the Ooty side. Finding the place quite habitable and, maybe foreseeing the potential of the place as a tourist destination, he built the first English house in Ooty which is known as the Stone House and even today is one of the most famous tourist destinations. To increase the accessibility of Ooty to the outside world, the English undertook several initial development activities like lying of the roads and clearing forests and so on. In a way it all started with the building of the Stone House. Image Gallery of Stone House Oot The Stone house is located in a very picturesque location in Ooty and a visit there will definitely not be a waste of your time, though many of you will agree that there far better places to see in and around Ooty. Tourists visit the place in heavy numbers every year and it has grown into a wonderful tourist destination. But currently the Stone House is the official residence of the Principal of Government Arts College, Ooty, certainly a befitting resident to the house which has a rich and colorful history.

Apart from the luscious greenery and the abundant tea estates, Ooty also has a bit of interesting historical sites and one of them is the Stone House. Built by John Sullivan, the then collector of Coimbatore that marked the first English house to be built in Ooty. What was constructed to be his residence is now a government museum that houses different species of stuffed animals and birds. Also contains several tribal indigenous tools and artworks. Definitely worth the visit.

Very peaceful and less crowded place which is beautifully curated and a must visit if coming to ooty as it is on the way to other tourist places/attractions. Enjoyed my time here especially considering I love zoology. It's not a big museum but it is good enough to consume 20 minutes of your time if you read and check everything carefully. Ticket is 10rs for adult and 5rs for photo. Worth every penny.
