Nice beach. Great experience to watch Sunrise sitting on the rocks. Have seen lot of people walking, exercising, working out in the morning on the beach and on the road adjacent to the beach. The area is very well maintained, but visitors need to co-operate with the authorities to help them keep it clean. This beach can be safely visited with family and kids. We can easily spend 3-4 hours in the beach.

Visited this place many times. It's a very peaceful place specially in the evening. You can sit and enjoy the sea and the breeze. Recently they have extended the beach. Many restaurants, hotels, pubs and shops are surrounding this place. At a certain time of the day vehicles are prohibited to enter the area. Parking is not an issue at all. This beach is very beautiful and clean. The best part of the beach is that vehicles are not allowed on the side street of the beach and which makes this place very comfortable to walk in clean air. It's a plastic free zone hence, the road is clean. This road is around 1.5 km long and connects 2 beaches at the same time but the famous beach is the rock beach. There are numerous options to dine and to stay alongside the road which makes it very easy to enjoy this place. You'll find cheaper and high end hotels here with a beach view.

Most famous beaches among all the beaches in Puducherry. Its name comes from the look of its shore. The rocks are neatly arranged by itself and it's very risky to walk on them. These stones are so black in colour. In the afternoons you will feel so much heat. It will be very pleasant to watch those vibrant waves hitting the rocks. The street along these coasts contains beautiful french style buildings, the doors and windows are beautiful photography backgrounds. Must visit this beach in Puducherry. Wear hat, shoes are mandatory and carry a bottle of water. The eateries available are sold at normal prices except for a few french and 3 star restaurants. This review is completely based on my experience.

An amazing and stunning views of sunrise. Best place for the sunrise. Go in the early morning and spend some time in cool Breeze and wait for sunrise. Very clean and well maintained beach. Here you can sit for long time if you have explored pondi and enjoy beach view, sunset & leisure time. this is famous spot in locals and we found mostly locals there as it was weekend. We went in night there around 10 am and it was crowded so you need not worry if going late night. On this lane of beach you will find good restaurants and you can enjoy food too. Vehicles are not allowed in this lane which is quite good idea so that people can explore this lane by walk. This is a run of mill beach that can be found along any coast in any country. The ideal time to go is in the morning when only serious walkers can be found. In the evening lots of crowd is there.

An amazing beach with really good views of the ocean. The long stretch of walking of about 1km is splendid. We can start going to nearby shopping streets next to it. There are awesome cafes nearby. You can find the lighthouse near the petrol bunk side of the beach.

Wonderful experience, the best time to visit rock beach is early morning 6 to 7am.. I visited at that time only, The view and the wave sound gives a pleasant feeling and a new experience.. we can use the rocks to sit and take pictures, it gives a cinematic view. But be careful while sitting at the rocks. And the most important adverse things are beach can be neat and clean, and parking facilities can be better

One of the best beach to spend time well maintained clean and beautiful.

Never seen a beach with this level of security during nights! Not that i didn't feel secure on other beaches I have been to, but being at this beach is like experiencing a different feel! Security checks can be seen at every corner around the beach here, and "no vehicles allowed" barricades to make 3-4 km way for pedestrians, separate multiple parking areas around the beach, people every age group taking a walk/doing activities, 24hour cafe serving different mouthwatering cuisines, shopping stores, all lightings everywhere for several kilometers, all this and so much more has made this spot my personal favourite in pondicherry :) Oh yes and this town is super clean, absolutely litter free which left me amazed. My heart was longing to stay all night long there!

One of the most cleanest and well maintained places I have visited. The place has some really interesting places nearby. Take a walk along the shore on paved roads along the beach or just sit at a place even after having few hundred people around you, you'd feel serenity and peace.

Okay okay to visit

Walkable distance from white town. Nice place to sit and relax during evening times with friends/family. It's often crowded, especially on weekends and evening times. There are a series of shops selling different clothes and other fancy/decorative items. There are also many vendors will be selling food near the beach. Good restaurants are also present jus outside the beach.

Peaceful place. Can easily spend hours resting/walking along the shore. Several restaurants are present here. Swimming is prohibited.

A lovely place to visit in Pondy is Rock Beach.... It will be always great feel when you are with loved ones, family and friends....

For morning walks this place is fantastic and frequented by many locals. Vehicles are not allowed on this beach road, exclusively meant for pedestrians. Also secretariat is situated on this road hence lot of security around.Also behind beach road there is a nice beautiful park one should visit.

Well-maintained beach in Pondicherry. While parts of it are rock, some parts are sandy, and one can go up to the water. There is also a lovely promenade alongside the beach to walk/run in. No traffic allowed here, so only pedestrians. However, the crowds are substantial.

My only wish is to see all the beaches in india to be waste free , well cleaned , free of plastic and bottle free. Rock beach is also not well maintained and is unclean.I would really love to see a change. I request all those visiting the beach to avoid dumping waste and liquor bottles , it is so heartbreaking to see and experience the beach is such a poor state. Best time to visit the beach is before dawn around 5AM during summer. The place is bustling with people who have come for a morning walk. The sun rise is definitely not to be missed . I still love the sun rise at Marina Beach, Chennai. When I visited this time I literally could smell the sewage waste in the air and the sea water was black. the waste is dumped into the sea even without treatment. Lots of waste and liquor bottles were also spotted. I would love to see a change when I visit the beach next time. Lots of life directly and indirectly are affected. I have been to beaches in Mumbai but this one is very neat and clean beach i have seen, it also connects two beaches, there are many cheap and high end hotels on one side of the beach. Being an artist i like that there is a cafe also on the beach where one can enjoy company of himself/herself and friends and family. Great place to read,write, paint. I would also like to mention that this beach is little crowded in the evening but if you want to experience it in calm ambiance then early morning or late night will be the best time. There is also a guy who serves tea there at late night.

This is a very famous beach here. This place is best to visit in the morning or evening. It can also be a bath for those who likes sea water. It can be for those who want to walk and enjoy the sea breeze. It is very nice to walk here. Local goods can be bought from here. There is also a lighthouse here. Please do not leave plastic waste here. It is the duty of each of us to make this place clean. Roaming stray dogs can be a nuisance to visitors.

Note to those who visit in COVID: We been there at 2 weeks before and the Beach is open only from 6AM to 12PM. Night time it's awesome to be in Rock beach but due to COVID People aren't allowed after 12PM. It was a total disappointment to us but still it's for our safety and we should follow. AND ONE MORE THING ,IN COVID THE FUEL STATIONS WERE OPEN TILL 8PM ONLY SO BE CAUTIOUS.

One of the best beach I have ever seen...I have visited two years ago...Bharati park situated close to the rock beach.....This beach is neat and clean....due to presence of rock on the coast it is named as rock beach....it's highly steep but serenity beach is there in front of rock beach which is not very sloppy.....sea waves erode the land gradually with time....so rock is there to prevent erosion of land...Badam milk is famous here....not only badam milk but street food also....Sri Aurobindo ashram situated close to the beach....The Pondicherry city also very neat and clean...a planned modern city...you can enjoy the sunrise in this beach.... morning view of this beach is amazing... There are so many street light....it's view same with marine drive Mumbai...this beach road is connect all the road toward city...after reach in city you can come to beach road by a auto...there are so many auto which are going toward beach and ashram.... People are coming to visit rock beach from every part of India.....A best place to visit in Pondicherry.....A thing of beauty is joy forever...

Rock beach has been my favourite from past 10 years. I prefer rock beach anytime over Goa. But now the crowd has started messing with its beauty by throwing garbage everywhere.. Excellent place to stay but lots and lots of garbage settled between the rocks disgusting to watch and sit and enjoy this place. Suggest to govt to install simple concrete benches near the rocks area with out back support. This will reduce abuse to this place in addition if any volunteers group interested to carry out garbage removal I can be part of that to clean this place.

This is good for spending ur own leisure time watching the waves hit the rocks. May be rake few days for memories. Not much to do here..the french/white town is adjacent to take a stroll to get a feel of the colony times. MG statue is in this area for a quick photo. If u like long walks with cool breeze with ur partner/family u will enjoy it. If u search in this area u will find good old French style restaurants near by. U can't venture into water here, its not a sandy beach.

To prevent the sand from being washed away, the area where the waves hit is covered with a bearing, and it is good for a walk on the beach. However, avoid visiting on a hot day.

Wonderfully planned and constructed. I was travelling with 2 of my dogs and found this stretch to be the most peaceful in Pondicherry because 1. It's a no vehicle zone and 2. A lot of open space for them to walk freely. There were are a few restaurants lined on the side which is a brilliant concept, considering the food can be eaten peacefully overlooking the beach. It you are travelling with your pets, this can be a good option.

Beach is clean and very good, have a walk and sun rise view. My bad luck the run rise was covered by clouds, as per my friend, earlier rock where there so people will not be near the shores, now it got opened and people started markings their presence by throwing rubbish. Hope it will not turn like kovalam beach.

Thanks to Pondicherry government they had made a special arrangement for morning walkers who starts their day by street side installed machine, those are absolutely free of cost to use. The rocky beach! Swimming is prohibited but playing in the beach is not 🤔 It’s a usually a tourist spot with couples and families all posing to the camera to capture memories of this marvellous location. The pier nearby belonging to the post is closed to public. It has a decently maintained payable public toilet.

A beautiful promenade built near the beach is very well maintained and perfect to sit and enjoy by the beach. There is also a Gandhi Statue built on the promenade. Well, you can also have a cup of coffee at le cafe which is sea facing. They serve amazing cold coffee and shakes. There is a craft bazaar just outside the promenade from where you can shop some handicraft products.

Sunrise and morning walk in the best along the rock beach. Just have a relaxed walk from Gandhi statue to the broken bridge stretch. You can also collect the shells and sand dollars from the shore. I found few sand dollars. Enjoy the waves hitting your feet. Few people are doing yoga on the rocks. There are smooth rocks from the right side of Gandhi statue.

It's a nice beach but its very hot during the day and very crowded at night. The water is clear and you can find a place to sit as well. This is in the French colony area where you will find very old houses built. There are many cafes.

Good place. But not too clean. The surroundings are good. Clam and quiet. You will feel like you are in a different world. The beach should be more clean as children use to make sand castles near the sea shore. Anyway nice place to spend time with friends and family 🙂

Very nice beach. It is a continuation of Promenade beach. But very beautiful. You can walk through the pavement on the shore. Very beautiful to watch in the night. There are many home stays and hotels on the other side of the road. Government Secretariat is on the shore of Rock beach. No dedicated parking space available. This place awesome if you can walk through, just feel the breeze and listen the roar of the sea. Yeah the beach is beautiful especially during sunset, sit on the rock and enjoy with your family/friends. There are plenty of hotels and resorts in front of the sea shore so yeah best place to stay around. Especially with your loved one, just hold the hand and walk together, you surly enjoy 😊

Rock Beach happens to be one of the most visited beaches in Pondicherry. It is found within the heart of the city. This is called as the rock beach because of many rocks assimilated at the beach ⛱️🏖️ An awesome place where you can witness an awesome sunrise early morning. This place is located near to white town and french colony where most the tourist stay which makes this place even more popular and crowded. The rocks 🪨 which is places on the shore of the beach makes this beach even more special and attract more.

Nice place to sit and enjoy sea. Lovely breeze in the evening. The promenade will be great for morning and evening walkers. When i visited, it was closed (parts of the same ) for some event. Also, toursits and locals should make sure not to throw plastic here. The whole place was littered with plastic waste.

Rock beach visit is convenient in the evening. Here one cannot enter into water waves of beach. But, could walk along parallel to catch magnificent wavering cool breezing winds. Full moon day and Succeeding 2-3 days visit would be worthy as one could capture views beautifully. Gandhi and dual statues are point of attractions. Also shopping with Auroville society handicrafts and good eateries and guest houses are inviting nicely.

A beautiful place to spend your time. You can witness a beautiful sunrise from the rock beach. You can even take out your breakfast from the local store and enjoy the beauty while eating. Further, you can enjoy the evening sitting on the rocks while having coffee from "Le coffee". Try to avoid the public holidays as it may get crowded. Overall a beautiful place to be. Loved our visit.

This is one of the important beaches to visit for a sunrise. But unfortunately by the time I reached, I was too late for the sunrise. But it has some awesome picturesque places and you need to watch your feed there are a lot of crabs in certain parts

It is a long beach and you can walk leisurely from one end of the beach to the other. It has nice pavement for walking. There is beach on one side and cafe, ice cream parlors, restaurants and many other shops on the other side. Even at night there would be people walking on the beach side so you won't feel scared to walk there. But only problem is the stray dog menace.

Nice place to visit and spend time. You can easily get your partner or family here. Open roads with No Vehicle policy hence you get good place to play around. DO NOT MISS TO SEE THE SUNRISE EARLY MORNING.

I liked this beach as there was a stage performance going on in the new year eve evening and it was too much fun there.....but it was too crowded to move freely... I somehow found my scooty at the parking lot after 1 hour of searching....but it was fun 😊
