The Helios lighthouse is situated in Ehrenfeld, one of the most colourful districts in Cologne. One might wonder why there is a lighhouse so far away from the see. In fact, Ehrenfeld was an independent city in year 1882 when the light bulb and telegraph factory "Helios Inc." was established. The factory belonged to some of the most innovative and successful in Europe. For marketing and image purpose the factory invested in an extraordinary signature mark: a 44 meter high lighthouse. Other then the story there is nothing very interesting about this place. Also, it's not easy to make a good photo as there is no clear view of the lighthouse.

The lighthouse looks very picturesque, especially in good weather. One star less because the city of Cologne doesn't make much of it. In fact, she doesn't do anything, to be precise. Just like with the television tower, it is not possible to visit or climb the tower. It would be a very good source of income for the city as well as an exciting attraction for tourists.

The landmark of Ehrenfeld, well taken.

The most beautiful inner-city lighthouse of all. Without the Heliosturm, Ehrenfeld would not be Ehrenfeld. The tower stands on the edge of the old Helios site as a mascot of the district and will hopefully survive the upcoming district development unscathed.

You wait for the cruise ships and none come. The Heliosturm, along with the Rheinlandhalle, is one of Cologne's industrial monuments. Glad they didn't fall victim to the wrecking balls.

The beautiful Helios lighthouse simply belongs to Ehrenfeld, like Kölle Cathedral! - also THAT should bring another city - such a landmark, not by the sea, but in the middle of the city!!!
