The
Papa
Madeo
was
once
the
quaint
and
dingiest
pub
in
Cologne.
Here
the
location
was
able
to
stand
out
from
the
crowd
and
score
points
thanks
to
its
bartenders
T.
and
H.
and
its
smoky,
wicked
and
dingy
atmosphere.
The
audience
matched
this,
offering
more
or
less
everything
a
real
pub
needs,
from
sickly
desperate
souls
to
hipsters
and
full-time
alcoholics.
After
the
smoking
ban
deprived
this
place
of
its
best
customers,
the
once
unique
personality
of
the
bartenders
seemed
to
be
crumbling
and
trying
to
keep
up
more
and
more
with
the
chipped
paint
on
the
interior
design.
While
one
of
them
no
longer
smiles
at
all
and
almost
only
seems
to
radiate
hostile
karma,
Prof.
Korsakoff
has
robbed
the
other
of
his
mathematical
skills,
which
could,
however,
be
made
up
for
with
a
good
deal
of
charm
and
humor.
While
people
used
to
meet
here
to
play
cards
in
a
friendly
atmosphere
or
to
enjoy
two
of
the
best
draft
beers
tapped
to
perfection,
today
they
are
slapped
with
exorbitant
prices
above
city
center
standards...
And
at
the
same
time,
their
good
mood
is
constantly
being
robbed.
After
15
years
at
Papa
Madeo,
this
was
unfortunately
the
last
visit.
Whether
the
abyss
of
what
is
probably
the
coolest
pub
in
Cologne
has
anything
to
do
with
the
change
of
ownership
remains
unclear,
but
what
has
always
been
true
for
many
rock
stars
also
seems
to
apply
here.
At
some
point
it's
just
embarrassing
to
come
on
stage
or
open
the
doors...
Because
no
one
really
deserves
that.
Not
even
the
poorest
and
most
desperate
soul.
In
great
sadness.
