Most important and busiest hospital in Sri Lanka. Doctors, nurses and other staff are very kind. Facilities are improved now. Government is giving some efforts to free health services more than before. Buildings are old and most of the buildings must be repaired and well maintained. Security is also good here. Haven't seen a parking space for general public but for doctors and staff people. Wheelchair accessible entrance available. No wheelchair accessible parking available.

This hospital provided free health care so I don't really complain about the service. Yes, it's not as clean as the private hospitals but given the sheer number of patients visiting, this hospital is the best to go to. If fact, I've heard many stories where patients were referred to this hospital from private ones when the situation gets very serious.

The heart of medical treatment in Sri Lanka. It's the end point for many medical cases unless it's a specific problem such as regarding paediatric, gyn and Obs , mental health etc. It got the best doctors in the country and provides many facilities that are not available in other government hospitals. NHSL is a hospital complex with desperate sections for each diseases and medical problems. A new OPD section is under construction and will be completed soon.

My review is only related to the skin click, section B, which is conducted by dermatologist Dr. Chalukya Gunasekera. Not even worth to give a one star. It was the worst experience as a petient I had ever! So disgusting! The staff (all doctors and nurses ) acted as criminals! They treat the patients very rude and badly. For their mistakes, just scold to petients without any reason. The only thing they do is, making patients mentally disturbed. Very irresponsible people! These people are not qualified for government services at all! Very cheap behaviour!

The doctors and especially the nurses in the hospital are useless. These nurses are often engaged in social media outside the ward and often only one or two nurses stay in the ward and surf social media on smart phones. Even if a patient cries out that it is difficult, they are not looked after. They don't even check if the patients are breathing, and while giving the medicine, they pour water into the mouth of a patient and put a pill and leave without even looking to see if the medicine has been swallowed or swallowed. Patients or caregivers of patients are not told and concealed about the patient's condition. No advice is given. At least they did not say whether the patient was discharged and nurses says that they were discharged only if the patient's guardians forced them to ask. Hygiene of patients is not looked after. Nurses and doctors go about their lives happily letting patients die. The x-rays taken from the patients are not given to the caretakers and are kept with them even after discharge. They are not working for taking salaries from people's tax money. endangering the lives of poor people. I can call them Satan's children.

The nurses are acting like they are the owners of the hospital. Very rude behaviour and dont know how to talk to the patients. When my father was admitted to the hospital they acted very slowly like simply they dont care. Some doctors have massive ego. As a patient you shouldnt admit to this hospital.

A living hell! Very poor treatment and service. Noone will be helping and noone cares.Very rude nurses and doctors cos the service is free? You will be just left to die. In their shared ward the family member of another gender cannot stay. Which is insane they should have separators or curtains. To admit a patient to a ward they will keep a very sick patient waiting for a whole day until that person is almost dead. I just wish something changes for better in this place.

The hospital staff consists of an enthusiastic and passionate group of people. In between, very few serve modestly. The junior staff (petty staff) are very low-scoring and polite. Low level people who have no respect for a patient in a difficult situation. Doctors do not educate their family members about residing patients. 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠

Being a doctor is supposed to top tier. Even when we say the word doctor it comes with a sense of respect and gratitude. But some doctors at NHSL makes us lose all sense of respect. They are the rudest people ever. I am talking about some! They have no sense of empathy or humanity and are the biggest wasters of time.

The accident and emergency section; anyone can go there 24×7. Known or unknown are taken and treated. Quick service. This is for accidents that has happened less than 2 weeks ago . They don't take care of any injuries that are more than 2 weeks old. First get registered and you will be traiged According to the severity of the injuries. All emergency investigations done then and there. Even CT scan for those needed. After the acute injuries are identified and treated you will be either discharged or admitted to relevant wards. The most efficient staff who work round the clock. Even private hospitals are far behind in investigations compared to this Accident service.

A lot of people confide on this hospital for their health issues. Majority are low income to mid income people. Got to visit this place to value God's grace in our lives. Cleanliness is not optimal, but they do what they can. Went to meet a friend in ward 41. Nurses are helpful to some extend.

Went to get Covid 19 vaccination. I had to wait for half an hour due unavailability of nurses. There was no queue or traffic for vaccination. Registration and Vaccination have done in five minutes. Had to wait for another half an hour because the Nurse ask me to do so to check if there is any side effect. Staff was very friendly and cooperative. Infrastructure and cleanliness must be improved. All the treatment are done without charges.

This hospital has every medical facilities ,as always busy unfortunately srilankan patients who are receiving those facilities always unsatisfied because of this business. This phenomena is applied to every other health institution. It is not just a hospital ,it has academic relationship with colombo University medical facilities, school of pharmacy ,radiogaphy ,physiotherapy and nurses training school. Until recent it is the one and only "NATIONAL HOSPITAL OF SRILANKA "

If you want the best treatment for your illness in the country, you can come here. If you value your life more than comfort theres no other place.... If you want to get pampered and have a good time go to the neighbouring asiri central, if you have a serious illness then god be with you.... looks are decieving ... and you cant get everything in life...

Not even worth 1 star. Rude staff and docs (not all but most). They'll just waste your time without any reason and for a very simple thing which you can do in few mins they'll take a full day or even call next day. Everything here is messed up esp with the people working there who are so careless and their attitude.

Patients are suffering, due to IMMENSE CONFUSION between hospital staff. New training doctors need more supervision with senior doctors when handling patients. We all are soo grateful to get FREE MEDICAL TREATMENT but please people who come here are helpless, have extra care for them Heavily unorganised staff needs more TRAINING.

I visited this remarkable hospital recently that offers efficient and friendly service, setting it apart from most government hospitals. The facility is well-organized and the staff is highly trained and helpful, which elevates the quality of the care. In particular, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the cardiology unit I visited.

Hospital quality for patients is an important aspect of healthcare. It refers to the level of care and services provided by a hospital that directly impact patients' outcomes, experiences, and overall satisfaction. Several factors contribute to hospital quality for patients, including: 1. Patient Safety: Hospitals should prioritize patient safety by implementing measures to prevent medical errors, infections, and other adverse events. This includes following best practices for medication administration, surgical procedures, and infection control protocols. 2. Clinical Outcomes: The quality of clinical outcomes, such as mortality rates, readmission rates, and complication rates, is a crucial indicator of hospital quality. Lower mortality rates and better outcomes generally indicate higher quality care. 3. Patient Satisfaction: Hospitals should strive to provide a positive patient experience. This includes factors like effective communication, responsiveness to patient needs and preferences, cleanliness, comfort, and overall patient satisfaction surveys. 4. Staffing and Expertise: The qualifications and experience of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and support staff, are vital for delivering high-quality care. Sufficient staffing levels and appropriate skill sets contribute to patient safety and positive outcomes. 5. Technology and Infrastructure: Hospitals equipped with modern technology and infrastructure can enhance patient care, diagnosis, and treatment. Advanced medical equipment, electronic health records (EHRs), and efficient communication systems can improve the accuracy and efficiency of healthcare delivery. 6. Care Coordination: Effective care coordination between different healthcare providers, departments, and transitions of care (such as from hospital to home or rehabilitation centers) is essential. This ensures seamless continuity of care and reduces the risk of medical errors or gaps in treatment. 7. Accreditation and Certifications: Hospitals that have achieved accreditation from reputable organizations, such as The Joint Commission or other regional accrediting bodies, demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards. Certifications in specific areas of expertise (e.g., stroke center certification) can also indicate specialized care quality. 8. Transparent Reporting: Hospitals that publicly report their quality metrics and outcomes demonstrate transparency and accountability. Publicly available data, such as Hospital Compare in the United States, can help patients make informed decisions about their healthcare providers. 9. Patient Education and Engagement: Hospitals that prioritize patient education and engagement empower patients to actively participate in their healthcare decisions. Providing understandable information, involving patients in care planning, and encouraging shared decision-making contribute to better patient outcomes. 10. Continual Quality Improvement: Hospitals committed to continuous quality improvement monitor outcomes, analyze data, and implement evidence-based practices to enhance patient care. Regular performance assessments and feedback mechanisms help identify areas for improvement and drive positive change. It's worth noting that different hospitals may excel in different areas, and patients' needs and preferences can vary. Thus, it's important for individuals to consider their specific healthcare requirements when assessing hospital quality and choose a facility that aligns with their needs. Additionally, local regulations and healthcare systems may influence the standards and measurement of hospital quality in different regions.

I am a government critic, but I will never criticize the staff of the NHSL in my life. I was literally in a life-threatening condition, according to my utmost experience. I would have never written this if there had been no efficient staff service provided to me at this very moment of my life. They were just amazing. It was festival time, plus they were so service conscious with less resources in the country situation, sincerely. I wish they had all the resources to serve more people better and will never get private treatments again. Thanks and kudos to every member of teams 48A Ward ❤️ and NHSL. I am in safe hands! 🙏 POV: Not a political consent.

ZERO STAR RATING TO THE WORST HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. I want to share my concerns about the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL), which, despite being the primary government hospital, has some serious issues with its healthcare system. My experiences at NHSL have been quite disappointing, and I feel it's important to bring these matters to everyone's attention. The problems I faced include unprofessional behavior, rudeness, and a lack of empathy from the hospital staff. A significant challenge I observed is the exhaustion of patients due to what seems like a lack of attention and care from the hospital staff. It's disheartening to see patients, already vulnerable, feeling more tired and discouraged by the system meant to provide them with medical support. I also want to express my concern about reported racial bias by some staff members. A healthcare environment should be inclusive, respectful, and free from discrimination. Such behavior goes against medical ethics and can severely impact the well-being of patients. One such example, the security woman in the Endocrine clinic (4th floor) lacks empathy and compassion towards the sick and needy. While I understand the challenges faced by healthcare professionals, it's crucial to maintain a high standard of professionalism to ensure patients receive the care they deserve. These reported issues reflect poorly not only on individual practitioners but on the healthcare system as a whole. It’s true I can’t expect professionalism from NHSL while the country itself is unprofessional and vile but still I felt the need to voice out my opinion.

I would say the best place to get it treated. Due to high amount of crowd you may feel that not treatd as you want. But for sure at right time the medical crew will attend at any circumstances. But the lower staffs like attendant from admission to ward are corrupted and often beg for money. That needs to be inspected and should bring to a conclusion. Some patient may call them for the support and they reach the patient after hours and hours where as doctors and some senior staff cannot scold them because their experience level at the hospital premises more than the Nurse or Docs.

My first experience with NEH was absolutely nice as my emergency surgery was done attentively by Dr.K.Banduthilake, under very special care due to my pregnancy. My right eye had a retinal detachment and was treated with silicon oil. My second experience is going through now, where I admitted to get the oil removed. Due to Covid situation the hospital requests PCR reports from patients undergoing the surgery, which is totally fair. But, the process of treating newly admitted patients is quite risky when considering the chance to catching covid while waiting for the PCR results to come. I had to wait from 7.30 am in the morning to around 2.30 pm in the afternoon on 9th wednesday, june, 2021 on a chair along with 30 other patients to get the pcr test done. There was a kind of staff-related problem going on which delayed the process. Then, everyone , both men and women were admitted to ward no.5, where there were only five of women. All had to use a common washroom, completely NOT WORKING and DOORLESS, so us women faced a real problem. None the less, the results got another day late. My surgery which is due today, if not the PCR is not yet sent, would be done on monday - where I have to stay 4 more days at NEH. Same fate is with all others. I really value the service of government hospitals, I had really good experience with all other times I got admitted. Even my second baby was born in Ratnapura National Hospital, which gave a really responsible service. My retinal detachment surgery was too done with great care at NEH. Yet, this process of PCR testing and sending the reports, keeping the patients in seperate wards under very bad conditions, delaying the results due to internal fights has a very high risk of getting us all covid positive. We were very safe back home. What is the whole point of carrying out a PCR and keeping the patient in a risky condition, even if prior comes negative, what if we got positive while staying here?

Highly professional doctors in Sri Lanka, infrastructure need to be improved.. minor staff need to be thoroughly monitored.. entrances should be arranged for the convenience of visitors (minimum walking distances to avoid passing whole hospital minimising spread of communicable diseases - security to be arranged and advised accordingly) .. required vast improvement with properly spending public funds

If you are expecting to admit for a bypass surgery, you may have to wait more than a month in the hospital even though your all the tests are done. They do not say any reason why this is happening. Also please make sure that you have a good awareness about the things that nurses are putting into your file because they mix other patient's reports with yours very easily and then they provide wrong medicine to you. When you point out some mistake like that they will scold at you. So be prepare for that. They are always right people. And once they realise that it's their fault they smoothly slip away. And even when you are admitting be prepared to wait for hours in front of the ward. If they asked to come at 8am you can admit to the ward around 2pm. These things may happen due to the lack of staff as well. Hope these things will change in future.

I haven't really gone for treatment or consultation at the NHSL. I came here a couple of times to apply for ethical clearance. Most offices and people are some of the most inefficient I have ever come across. But, I really appreciate those working in the DDG office, they are extremely helpful, attentive and efficient. Most others just idle around and they have such a rude attitude and most of them do not even know what they are doing. Also the ERC does not have a proper website or contact details or even details about the personnel in the committee. Also almost everyone has gotten adjusted to remote working but that committee ... no. They are not meeting up because of curfew. I applied to another committee and they did everything online. I just hope things like these improve because it is such a waste of time and resources of people.

Main, largest, busiest and most crowded hospital in sri lanka. This hospital provided free health care so I don't really complain about the service. Yes, i know this have many issues with staff behaviors and maintaince. it's not as clean as the private hospitals but given the sheer number of patients visiting, this hospital is the best to go to. Thats why i having huge respect about their treatments, surgeries n checkups specially in ICU's If fact, I've heard many stories where patients were referred to this hospital from private ones when the situation gets very serious.

This is the best place for all the medical needs in srilanka. I earlier had a misconception that the government hospitals are not good for medical treatments. But i was totally wrong. My aunt was having a kidney issue and I took her to a well known private hospital but one day I took her to the NHSL and the treatments received from this is exceptional. I was really worried that I didn't take her to NHSL eaier. The doctors and the nursing staff is beyond friendly and they are well trained. The way they treat patients are exceptional. I always recommend the NHSL as the first option for medical treatments in srilanaka. Thank you NHSL.

This on one of the worst and pathetic health systems in the world. The health system we encountered was really sad. It had a lot of problems and things that didn't work well. My mom needed to get an MRI scan, which is an important medical test. But we were told that the scan had to be delayed for a whole month because they didn't have enough ink. We felt very frustrated and disappointed...After waiting for a long time, we finally got instructions to go to the hospital at 8 AM on a certain day. We followed the instructions and arrived even earlier at 7:30 AM. But little did we know that this was just the beginning of a difficult and emotionally draining experience...We were taken to a room where we spent the whole day, waiting anxiously for my mom's turn for the scan. As time went by, I gathered up the courage to ask about the delay many times. Each time, they promised it would only be another hour and told us not to eat anything...The staff didn't show any understanding or kindness towards us. They didn't take our concerns seriously, which made us even more upset. The hours passed by and it started getting late, but there was no progress or communication from them...My mom, who is 61 years old, sat there patiently without eating anything since morning. She looked tired and weak because of it. It hurt me deeply to see her suffer like that... To be honest, I can't recommend this hospital to anyone who needs medical help. But people like us who don't have much money don't have other options or resources to go somewhere else for better care. Private hospitals are too expensive for us...This experience has left a lasting impact on me - it reminds me how broken and inadequate our healthcare system can be for people who are less fortunate. I really hope that one day no one will have to go through such difficult times when they need important medical services.
