I have mixed feelings. POSITIVES: The campsite was well laid out and teeming with birdlife. The superior tent was very comfortable and tastefully decorated with a separate sitting area and bedroom. The Sri Lankan meal we were served on the first day was the best I've had in a long time and the staff was very courteous. We enjoyed the walk around the lake and the night walk with the camp director. NEGATIVES: I was disappointed with the Safari which was part of our package. We were informed only when we checked in that we could not go on a safari that afternoon because there was no vehicle available and so we had to opt for a full day safari the next day instead of two half day Safaris. This was tiring and we didn't have time to enjoy the luxury of our tents. The guide appointed for us was a farmer covering for his son (the actual guide) and was not familiar with wildlife or birdlife though he knew to navigate around the park. He stopped only to show us crocodiles, monitor lizards and bee-eaters. We had to do all the spotting and make him backtrack. Mahoora should do much better and have a pool of reliable, engaging and trained guides. I must also say that the camp is near the village and, if there is a public concert (which took place on our first night at the camp), be prepared for blaring music and a sleepless night. This was not Mahoora's fault, but I suggest the management be prepared with noise-cancelling earbuds for guests. Thankfully we were able to enjoy the second night and listen to all the night creatures. The bathroom was rather small and I kept bumping onto the canvas separating the bedroom and bathroom. A larger person would find it inconvenient. I hope this canvas and the shower curtains are laundered after every stay. Mine didn't look like they were. OVERALL: The Wipattu Campsite has a lot of potential. It's a comfortable place to relax and enjoy birdlife, good, healthy food and hospitality. However, if you are serious about birdwatching and spotting animals in the national park, I would not recommend their safari services.

We enjoyed the holiday in a carbon neutral safari camp, YALA a relaxing environment with very friendly staff. The day started with welcome drink (natural fruit juice), good lunch, very comfortable luxury tent, safari with friendly guide, special campfire to our group, special candlelight dinner during Christmas eve (superb The next day starts with morning tea and safari with Mr Avinka, an experienced naturalist, who spotted three leopards at Yala and was able to take photography. The breakfast was served during the safari, in a well-planned manner. We were able to relax after a traditional tasty lunch and again campfire in the evening and a relaxing and delicious candlelight dinner. The next day starts with a morning bird watching walk with Mr Avinka and we enjoyed it, especially my children. Our special thanks to Mr Avinka for his hospitality and care. We met Mr Saman, a mobile library, an expert in banking, agriculture, archaeology, tourism etc. We had a very useful friendly chat with him during our breakfast and he has enriched us with information, a very honest character. Our sincere thanks to Ms. Nathasa Piumali for making our booking and arranging to provide a very comfortable tent stay. Thanks to the friendly team for providing all comforts and making the days memorable. As 2023 approaches, we realize how lucky we are to count you as our friend. We are truly grateful for all you did for us. Our New Year's resolution is to make more time to catch up with you guys next year, no matter how crazy work and life gets.

Visited the campsite during the first weekend of March 2021 and had a great time. Our naturalist Asela was very helpful and flexible, he was always available when needed and had a very good knowledge about the wildlife as well. Overall the staff, service and food was also quite good and we shall visit again sometime soon.

Very quiet and beautiful area, really in nature. Very friendly staff. Tasty meals and very nice to eat them outside by the campfire. The tents were very spacious, luxurious and clean. The night walk was a nice extra! Great stay in the Yala park, I would recommend it to everyone!

Just wanted to write say a few words about our experience at Big Game Yala By Eco Team. It was a surreal experience. The premises and tents were clean and hygienic. Absolutely loved the surroundings. The best part was we got to have dinner under a starry sky. Food was delicious. The full day safari was conducted by experienced drivers and a well sought out guide. The manner in which the food was served during the safari was also well planned. Special thanks goes out to Mr. Avinka and the staff who took good care of us from the moment we arrived until we bid farewell. Will definitely be back.
