    I'm not sure why people love this place. We came here because of the positive reviews here on google maps and we couldn't be more disappointed. The food was too salty with no proper flavour. I'm embarrassed to say that I still finished my food because it was SO DARN EXPENSIVE. It is not worth it, there are so many other places to eat in Colonia. We also ordered the fried calamari and it was not calamari, it felt doughy. Oh and the worst of all, we were charged for bread. Honestly, it is not a big problem, but you should ask your customers if you are going to offer them something that you expect them to pay for. But thank you, La Florida. Because after this experience with you, we were more cautious with our dining experience in Uruguay. We always asked if any bread or food served to us as appetisers that we didn't order was free of charge. In all seriousness, we wonder if we were just really unlucky with our experience here or if the previous reviews were written by their friends. If you are lucky enough to see this review, please, do yourself and your mouth a favour. Go eat somewhere else. Have a beautiful time in Colonia.

    Avoid this place. - The woman who served us was behaving as if she was drunk. Shouted at us several times while bringing things to our table, accused me of not being a customer when I used bathroom (only some minutes after we ordered with her), was noticeably harassing other customers - Charged us for bread served before the meal we didn’t order - Hair in the food - Food wasn’t good anyway - Significantly overpriced compared to other restaurants in Colonia and Montevideo

    Having made the trip from BA to Colonia every 90 days for many years (visa renewal) I can safely say that La Florida is the best restaurant in town! It is a must visit if you love lamb as much as I do. The owner raises the lambs himself and the rack of lamb is why I still go to Colonia even though I don’t need a visa anymore!

    Good food, but no credit card, (with a lame excuse/lie as to why cc are not accepted. Totally made up currency exchange rate. To Carlos and his response... it wasn’t Qatar money it was Saudi, and by the way we were very sad when we realized how much you had overpriced us in the exchange because the food was great! So I guess it takes one “chanta” to know another!! Disappointed our first lunch in Colonia turnout to be like this, it is a good thing everyone else in this beautiful town made up for your false stories, never had a problem with credit cards after our encounter with you, actually tourist needs to know that there is an 18% tax return when paying with credit card instead of the almost 15% more that you charged us in the exchange

    Chatty owner/cook, tried to distract us with nonsense, while charging extra. Food is good, but trying to rip off tourists seems to be more a thing of a Cuban street hustler, out of place in an Uruguayan restaurant owner.

    We discovered this amazing place completely by happy accident during a recent weeklong stay in Colonia. While out walking in the Barrio Historico, we were invited into a home of some USA expats liviing there. We told them how boring we found the food to be in Uruguay in general, and they instantly booked us for lunch the following day at Don Florida! Eight of us enjoyed an absolutely stellar lunch, thanks to the owner/chef, Carlos, who apparently only opens the place when he feels like it. What an amazing culinary artist this Frenchman is! No matter what it takes, you MUST find out about La Florida while you are in Colonia.

    La Florida is a place where you know you are going to spend a good time while taking a sit around one of the four tables Carlors offers. Of course, it turns out to be true. Eating there is an experience with a friendly-owner who knows how to properly make a guest feel the soul and the warmth of a place -and not only by the quality of the food being served. We arrived at 12 and left at 4.30pm, ending up cancelling plans we had at 3pm to stay longer. In between that time, we filled ourselved with multiple bottles of not-so-famous Uruguayan wine, fine plates of local fish served with the best sauce (and a second generous portion for free for anyone who desires it!), and home-made liquor offered by the house to finish on a good note -Note: Outstaying Carlos' welcome, we eventually drank half of the bottle-. Florida is not too much, it's just enough for you - at the moment of leaving- to give him a firm south-american-style hug while wishing him good luck; until -of course- the next time you come to Colonia, where you'll pass by his place to say hi - and why not enjoy a bottle (or 2). You might actually come back 50% for him (I did).

    My husband and I took a day trip to Colonia while on our honeymoon in Buenos Aires. First thing we did after disembarking was look for lunch. We were already looking for La Florida when Carlos greeted us on the street and invited us in. He immediately started chatting us up with mostly Spanish and a little English (for me). Their space is completely charming, personal and intimate. After the tour we sat down to look at the menu. My husband is vegetarian and Carlos said, "I'll take care of you!" 👍👍 Watched the World Cup final here. Great atmosphere. Food was reasonably priced, large portions, and good for the price. It's mostly bar type food with large portions. Definitely would go back for sports event. No one spoke English but was fine just pointed a lot at things and got by ok.
