Myself and 2 friends booked this place for one night this past weekend. Not only did our room not lock (second floor, room 6), but the wind had been left open all day during Storm Jorge, leaving the room FREEZING cold and the bed, floor, and wall wet from the rain. Additionally, the heater in the room did not function whatsoever and the staff did nothing to fix the situation because "it should be working fine" even though it clearly was not working at all. The manager did not even make an effort to come up to the room to see if it could be fixed. We were also denied extra blankets to deal with the cold room and were instead given 3 thin, ratty towels as makeshift blankets. We packed our bags and left the same night we checked in-- don't waste your time staying here.

5 star? Think 6!! Consider big Oscars a treat! A beautiful and colourful building in the outskirts of Cork. Firstly you are greeted with what I can only describe as a fitness model. 5 star just for the hospitality. Gertrude carried our bags up the stairs for us and then serenaded us with her covid breath; the free turn back service for us was really unexpected too! All I can say was I was hungry after smelling a delightful cabbage smell that must be coming from a kitchen that would only put Gordon Ramsey to shame; even better was that the bathroom took on this delightful aroma as well! The choice of post modern artwork really made us feel at home; the exotic pictures of plants on the wall were inspiring! We made some amazing friends here, especially TJ, a man of many talents but few words. TJ would sit and play cards with us all night, sometimes it seemed as if he didn't move at all! The bed's are made from the highest quality Cork wool and the crunchy noise they produce when you turn your head, really helped us drift off to sleep! To add to the blissful ambience, the guests walking up and down the stairs, produced a delightful metronome of footsteps; this was another unexpected delight. Unfortunately, the high quality soundproofed walls made it difficult to hear Gertrude's call to breakfast; so we sometimes missed TJ's boiled eggs and cabbage. Oscar's is also a highly rated Spa and their showering equipment really reflects this. If you need cold water no problem it will be cold, if you need hot water no problem, it will be cold. The addition of black cherry body wash was simply devine! On Friday nights, TJ offers cooking masterclasses. These are charged at €100 an hour and Gertrude is always there to eat up the dishes! If that wasn't exciting enough, TJ follows these classes with an exceptional live musical performance; I have never heard the triangle played so beautifully! Thanks Oscars for showing me how exciting Cork really is!

I can't recommend staying in this hostel. As an experienced and well travelled backpacker I can say this place does not meet the basic requirements for hygiene and safety. I booked a bed in a female dorm for safety, but the door-lock was broken, leaving the door open 24/7. Our toilet did not work so 6 people were forced to use the only other one available which was communal and not clean. Showers did not work in the whole building and at 8.30 in the morning nobody from the staff was at the reception desk, nor picked up the phone or returned my phone calls. The only staff member I met in person during my check-in was polite in our interactions, but not helpful at all when needed. At arrival, the staff member handed me the (useless) keys of my dorm and didn't bother showing me around or at least telling me which bed I was supposed to use. I shared the room with a few drunk people who were noisy and disrespectful, but nobody was at reception at night in case the situation escalated. Major safety issue! If you can avoid, please do.

We arrived at 3pm. Check in is 2-8pm per the website and on the door of the hostel. We could not get in and knocked and waited. Once we got in a very strange man was there and told us check in was at 6.. 3 hours away. I asked did he work there and he said no. Another woman came in the lobby and she said you wait until 6 she also said she did not work there. We tried calling the number on the office door which was shut and Iocked. Around 30 minutes later a man arrived who didn’t speak much English and had a key for the office but didn’t know how to check us in. Around 30 more minutes another lady comes running in with kids and she gets on the computer. All this time we have another person in our car as we had no where to park. The website states there is parking but there is NOT. They were scrambling and at this point it was all extremely uncomfortable and we did not feel secure staying here. We waiting over an hour and a half to get assistance after a 10 hour flight. And the staff members were extremely unorganized and whoever they had staying at the hostel that appeared to work there but did not was very odd and unwelcoming. I would not try to book this place we had to find another and wasted so much time.

I have travelled in Europe, America and Asia and this has to be the best hostel i have ever stayed in. Like a hotel for hostel prices. The fitout is modern and clean, the rooms are awesome. The kitchen is huge and has everything you need. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are super quiet and warm, which can be very important after a rainy day in Ireland. Perfect experience.

Not half as bad ad people say. It's not in the city center but it does not mean it's in a bad neigbourhood. My dorm was half full, other girls were quiet and they didnt bother me. The only thing that bothered me was the traffic in the street - windows seem to have just one pane and the noise did wake me up. The room was small and the corridors and stairs were narrow, but that's just Irish residential architecture. The staff seemed in general a bit confused. I think that they should maybe invest a bit in decor, remove one bunk bed from dorm, improve plumbing and convince the staff to be a bit more welcoming and it could be a really good hostel.

Um let's see this is the worst hostel I've ever stayed in. It's basically a boarding house they have shoved bunkbeds into. The hostel smells like cigarettes the rooms are dirty, tiny, musty and extremely noisy next to the main road. The place is definitely un-fire safe and the windows open onto mouldy crawl spaces with trash. There is no welcome here either it has a strange atmosphere and there are homeless people living here.

Cheap and cheerful. Very small room but did the job for two young adults. Lovely self service kitchen and living area downstairs. The staff were pleasant.

The reception might as well be mom existent. The man will not tell the truth nor will he open the doors when it’s supposed to be. He’s a weasel and i could not recommend staying away from this place enough.

Use to rate this place, for a decent cheap stay for a night in the city. Facilities are good, adequate. Toilets are damp, maybe bring your own towel if you're fussy. Recently booked through a 3rd party, and when we arrived there was no availability, which was a huge let down... Within walking distance to train station, and city centre approx 15 mins walk. Not be disregarded, depending on your requirements!!

Lots of negative reviews on here. I was in room 4 with 3 bunks (sleeps 6) modern tough metal bunks with metal cage under bunk for secure storage. Shared bathroom with shower. I had 1 night to kill Before flying back to London so got train from Midleton to Kent Station. Hostel is 5 minutes from station. You get electronic key to come and go as you please. Excellent burger cafe ‘Lab 182’ nearby. Can’t complain for €25. Does exactly what it says on the tin.
