Delayed
cancer
diagnosis
due
to
a
receptionists
lack
of
understanding
of/interest
in
her
job
role.
I
had
a
lump
on
my
abdomen
and
went
there.
The
doctor
decided
to
send
a
referral
to
a
general
surgeon.
I
asked
her
to
write
on
the
referral
that
I
could
only
have
the
appointment
on
the
end
of
the
week
due
to
work
schedules
(I’m
a
nurse).
She
agreed
and
as
far
as
I
know
she
put
it
down.
Then
the
appointment
from
cuh
came
for
the
wrong
end
of
the
week.
I
understood
that
this
was
a
cuh
issue
so
I
got
onto
them
to
see
what
could
be
done.
I
rang
cuh
and
took
the
initiative
to
get
the
name
of
the
surgeon
who
works
at
the
other
end
of
the
week,
as
they
could
not
reschedule
it
as
it
was
a
different
Surgeon
and
they
would
need
a
specific
referral
for
him.(understandable)
I
rang
the
receptionist
in
the
GP
practise,
I
asked
her
to
send
a
referral
for
the
cuh
appointment
for
the
other
end
of
the
week
and
provided
the
name
of
the
surgeon.
I
understood
that
she
couldn’t
write
a
referral
herself
obv
as
she’s
a
receptionist,
I
asked
if
she
would
discuss
it
with
my
go.
The
receptionist
insisted
I
arrange
to
come
in
again
and
pay
another
€50
to
do
this.
It
sunk
in
how
incompetent
the
running
of
the
practise
was
and
for
a
while
I
did
nothing.
I
then
found
another
GP
who
was
able
to
refer
me
after
also
reviewing
the
lump,
The
lump
was
a
sarcoma
-
cancer.
Any
good
Receptionist
would
have
just
pulled
the
file
and
asked
the
doctor
if
they
could
do
another
referral.
This
was
two
year
ago
but
I’m
just
posting
it
now,
because
the
lack
of
care
was
astounding
and
I
still
often
think
of
it.
