Why you should visit Longleat

  1. Experience a unique drive-through safari, get up close to a wide variety of animals, enjoy beautiful park grounds, and immerse yourself in spectacular seasonal events like the Festival of Light.

Things you should know before visiting

Some of the small enclosures in the Animal world also felt small and very concrete.

Wow what an amazing experience !! love how you can get so up close to all the animals in your car, (note it’s possible to turn right before entering the monkey enclosure and risking damage to your car) Once you’ve finished your drive around head back to the main Long Leat house and go on to see other animals on foot near the main house where you can get even closer as there’s no fences or glass to look through you’re in middle their area they live in with them ! “Be brave” and go into the Bat Cave and experience the bats flying around you and get very up close to sloths climbing around above your head ! Don’t miss feeding the birds and having them land on your arm or hand to feed from a small plastic pot with nectar in, these can be purchased from entrance to the birds for £1.50 per pot You won’t believe how close you can get to the koalas ! Make sure you don’t miss taking the boat trip around the lake and get up close to the sea lions and the hippos !

Visited a few times before and this time came for the Christmas experience and festival lights. Overall a good day out, but it should be really given the cost. The cost included a train ride to visit Santa which was a good experience and a decent soft toy for the kids. Also had access to the house, which we didn't do, but we did do the Safari drive and then back to the main car park for the evening light walk around. A lot of things to see and do so it's definitely a full day and the array of light displays were impressive along with the Christmas tree light and music show - complete with occasional fake snow - and the Longleat 75th anniversary light show on the house and a bit of history (albeit skipping over where all the money came from to build the house originally.). Doesn't get 5 stars because ultimately the landed gentry owning massive estates is just a reminder that we never had a proper revolution and we're still funding these huge estates, just now we do it via entrance fees and the gift shop.

We visited this place for the first time, and after expecting it to be the best and biggest safari park in the UK, we were very disappointed. This place is overpriced, and you don't get to see many interesting animals. All the animals were really far away or hiding inside their houses. It was a nice sunny day and busy as well, so we are not sure why we didn't see much. Also, all the lions, cheetahs, and tigers were behind cages, so we are not sure what the point is of driving around in a car when they are behind bars. Not really worth it. After we spent £45 per person on tickets at the safari, we stopped at the walking bit. Very overpriced food and drinks at the restaurant. London prices, ridiculous. They gave us a map with not much detail on where the animals were, and if there were some, the animal was most times not there or the area was closed, like the family petting part. We walked all the way there to read a sign saying it was closed. The small animals you could see close up looked very stressed and uncomfortable so close to people. And the ones that were far away were sleeping. Many animals look very skinny and small. Not sure what is happening in the safari park, but judging by the business I see and overbooked tickets, I'm sure the park is not out of money. So why animal look under fed? Left the park with a not-so-good feeling and will not be returning. So many better and cheaper places are around. Disappointed after traveling almost three hours to see underweight animals and sleeping.

Went to the animal trail in the village and the festival of light. So many interesting creatures I hadn't seen before. Loads of Koalas and a red panda which was a cuteness overload. The lights are incredible. Huge scale. So many different subjects and scenes. It was very busy but a lovely atmosphere. Plenty of food and shopping options aswell as the attractions. Perfect for any age. Loved it.

very rich flora and fauna, incredibly large territory, a must-see for everyone, both children and adults. True, there are queues for entertainment such as a train excursion or a water cruise. But while you are waiting, you can visit the neighboring hall where there are also many interesting and exotic animals that look natural and do not feel like they are in captivity at all. The zoo employees do a great job every day

The lights are just incredible no other light show comes close. The attention to detail of the figures is brilliant. All ages of our group loved it...even ones that were not keen on the theme once they saw it they were blown away. The trail is well spread out so even though there are MANY people there is still space and time to take photos.

We visited the Christmas lights and safari park and were very impressed. The Christmas lights spectacular was fantastic I would highly recommend it. The safari park and attractions are also great. Parking was easy. All the staff we spoke to were polite and helpful. We will definitely go back.

Had a great time, loads to do with the road safari, boat safari and walking around the other animals. Kids enjoyed feeding the sea lions from the boat safari and the koalas were one of the favourite things too. Bat cave also good with a couple sloths inside. Never been so close to meerkats before.

A truly magical experience, something for everyone. Staff were brilliant so helpful. Loved the long house , cosy reading corner , Craft stations and a cinematic experience. Great for children of all ages. There were a lot of people there , perhaps due to storms and poor weather before Christmas so dates were rescheduled so everyone was accomadated for, it just meant it was a little more challenging to get family photos and the odd bit of daudling but staff tried to keep things moving.

Although there was lots to do they let far too many people in meaning queue times are extremely long. Granted we went on a bank holiday but from entering the driveway to getting out of the car took nearly an hour. The train took another hour and the boat ride was much the same. This resulted in a rush round to see as much as we could to get value for money. The toilet were very dated and I think for the money you would think it would be kept in top condition. Very few baby changes which was surprising considering it's a family attraction. If they cut admission numbers by half it wouldn't be too bad and probably better value for money but they fact we spent close to £100 I am disappointed. The safari was also over subscribed and very little to see. The staff were friendly enough and prices in shops weren't too bad. The play parks were okay. Feeding the birds was good for the kids but then they charge for that too. Overall I would only recommend on a very quite period and If you can get tickets on a good deal. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't making £4mil profit a year

Great day out for all the family. Lovely staff too. Suggest going on the boat trip early to avoid a very long wait in the queue. We got there at open and straight onto the boat. By the time our trip had finished the queue was huge. The trip is approx 25 minutes with 120 able to board at a time. The Santander experience was great for our little boy. He loved every minute of it. And he appreciated the safari drive so much he fell asleep 😁 we loved it though.

You definitely get very close to all the animals and birds. All the animals were out and came really close. We took our time and watched the tiger cubs playing with their mum in the drive through safari. A mum monkey carrying her baby sat on our car bonnet. The guide on the river boat was fantastic and we fed the sea lions! Even the gorillas popped out. Lots to do. I would have liked to know if they do any conservation work and about why the jeeps were herding the big cats and wolves so aggressively. That made me feel a bit uncomfortable as it was so unnatural and the animals seemed scared. Some of the small enclosures in the Animal world also felt small and very concrete. We liked the fact the rescued elephant wasn't expected to come out and appreciated knowing it was only there because she had been rescued. Elephants shouldn't be kept in captivity because they roam such large distances. That said, all the staff were lovely and the grounds are out of this world. Enormous with incredible views. The train was also a big hit with the younger family member!

We really enjoyed Longleat and bought a 2 day ticket so we didn't have to rush around. We enjoyed the safari first and that included risking it and going in to see the monkeys!...we ended up with less parking sensors coming out of the enclosure 🤦‍♀️😬🐒 ooops. We really enjoyed the African village where you can get out and feed the giraffes for an extra fee. Strolling around we go to see the African painted dogs, lemur's and ostrich's. It gets very busy in the safari first thing so the second day we went in the afternoon when it was much quieter. So my recommendation is to go around the 2pm feed for the giraffes. The Longleat park was great fun too, there was loads to do there, more mini animals to see and the bat caves for really amazing to experience. There was indoor circus fun too and some vintage fairground rides. Also the largest hedge maze... It was massive! We finally got to the middle then decided to take the fastest route out, we only managed less than half the maze! There was also a boat safari which was great to feed the sea lions for a small extra fee for the fish too.

Great day out! It's one of those places that has a little bit of everything. The main event is the drive-through safari, which is a classic for a reason. You're in your own car, driving through these large enclosures, and the animals are just roaming around. We saw lions, tigers, and a bunch of other animals, and it was cool to see them so close. Beyond the safari, there's a lot to do on foot. We did the Jungle Cruise boat ride where you see the gorillas and feed the sea lions, which was a highlight. We also walked through the penguin, meerkat, and giraffe enclosures, which was really fun. There's also a big hedge maze, a train, and a massive play area for kids. It's a full-day trip, easily. We got there early and still didn't manage to see everything. It's not a cheap day out, but considering how much there is to do, I'd say it's good value for money. Definitely a solid choice for a fun day out.

We are koala fans so went to Longleat specifically to see Koala Creek. We absolutely loved it! Such a great facility that is really spacious, beautifully laid out, well maintained, and you really get a sense that the koalas and their friends are well cared for in a space that really values conservation. Most importantly of all, you get to the six koalas super close up while respecting their space and without disturbing them. They tend to be sleeping a few metres up in the various trees and spaces available to them. And they are gorgeous! We were fortunate enough to visit on a Monday during term time, so the whole place was very quiet. We enjoyed seeing all the other animals as well as the safari boat which was good fun. All the staff made a great impression as very welcoming and enthusiastic. All in, highly recommended and even more so when you go off season!

We were extremely lucky with the weather, all the animals were out sunbathing. The staff were extremely lovely and helpful, BIG shout out to Nicky, the otters keeper who answered all of my Brownies questions. She has the patience of an angel and is knowledgeable about her animals. The area was clean, tidy and the children loved it. If you love animals, this is a great place for the family.

It’s on my bucket list to visit Longleat and enjoy the road safari experience. The safari park is huge, with a variety of activities and animals. Just a reminder—the monkeys can be a bit aggressive. I saw them bite off two car antennas and pull off a windscreen wiper from one car.

Longleat is one of the best and my favorite visits in the UK. Longleat house was absolutely beautiful and magnificent, i recommend to book the house tour prior to your trip. Amazing view outside the house with a beautiful green garden and big fountains. And a lion statue you can take your pictures with. Just across the house you have a huge animal attraction with so many exotic animals and reptiles, it has a play area for children and a train that can take you around the attraction and the area. If you go to Longleat you must book the Longleat Safari!! It is an experience you can’t miss out on! You will get up close with every animal and get to see them in their habitat. Definitely recommend saving Longleat as on your trip bucket list!

Fabulous day even though we were completely drenched! Animals are beautiful and well looked after. The bats flying around your head were amazing! The monkeys are so funny and lovely. Very excited that they are building a new hippo home and trying to do a breeding programme at the end of this year!

We absolutely love Longleat! The staff are so nice and great to chat to. They all have a wonderful respect for the animals. I get so many fun stories from them and we learn a lot about the animals. We've been members for a while now and it's worth every penny! I highly recommend the VIP meerkat experience.

Came here for the festival of light and it was brilliant the trail was quite long with loads of photo opportunities. I pull however suggest you do the walk in safari without the drive through as it was extremely busy by 4pm with ques for absolutely everything the biggest que was just for ice cream and donuts with at least 50 people in so try to get in before 4pm

Longleat Safari Park was an absolutely brilliant day out yet again—my fifth visit, in fact! The best part was easily the safari drive, and choosing the guided bus tour was a genius move. Our driver gave fantastic commentary, dropping great facts and making sure we all got a brilliant view—especially when we were nose-to-nose with the lions and those cheeky monkeys. The driver's humour, personality, and in-depth experience really stood out; that’s definitely something Longleat should be proud of. Just a heads-up though: get there as early as you possibly can! I made sure to explore the main grounds first this time. I highly recommend hitting the major attractions early before the crowds build up. Make the Boat Safari—to see the sea lions, gorillas, and monkeys—your first stop, followed up by the charming Longleat Railway. Both of those get busy really quickly. My one real bummer was finding out the penguin area was closed when I visited due to the avian bird flu pandemic. It was tough missing them, but totally understandable. Overall, Longleat is an outstanding family adventure and a must-do, but you’ll definitely need a solid plan to fit it all in!

We came to the safari park for the Wallace and gromit lights, we also came in 2023 for the lights and they are out of this world! So so good!! When we came this time the weather was horrific (11/1/26) I was so surprised at the staff! They were all so happy and upbeat even though standing for long periods being pelted on the face by what could only be described as a full on storm! We still had staff members offering to take our photos even at half 6 when I’m sure they all wanted to go home and get dry! We started on foot and headed straight for the boat, my 3 year old loved feeding the Sealions! We then carried on the foot Safari until we couldn’t take the cold any longer and headed for the car Safari (we didn’t get out for the wallaby’s bit we didn’t dare what with the weather). That was hands down our best safari experience we’ve ever had! The animals were all happy and playing! The blooming monkeys nicked a teddy tardis which I’d forgotten was attached to the grill 🫣😂 but this made our toddler cry with laughter and she’s still talking about it now a month on! I could not recommend this safari park more! Our only regret is we’ve not managed to visit in warmer months! You will definitely be getting a visit this summer!

We had a ***** fantastic day at Longleat and couldn’t fault the experience from start to finish. We began with the safari, which was brilliant and such a fun way to see the animals up close. After that, we grabbed a burger from one of the on-site vans – absolutely delicious and a great surprise. The house tour was a real highlight. Zoe was excellent: incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate, which made the tour both interesting and enjoyable. We then took a relaxed walk around the beautiful grounds before enjoying a lovely spot of afternoon tea. In the evening, we waited for the lantern show, and it was more than worth it. The display was spectacular and a perfect way to end the day. Overall, it was a wonderfully well-rounded visit with something for everyone. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend it.

We went to Longleat for the Christmas lights! We spent a fun day exploring the animals and visiting Santa on the Santa train. The train took us to Santa's grotto where we saw Santa and got a lovely Longleat teddy bear. We then had some face painting and hot chocolate. After visiting Santa, we took the safari, and it was so much fun! We got to see all the animals up close, especially the lions and tigers. In the afternoon, we explored the play areas and then enjoyed a wonderful picnic. After that, we waited for the lights to come on. They were really beautiful, but unfortunately, a really bad downpour started, and we got pretty soaked! But the lights were super cool! They told some amazing stories about Wallace and Gromit, and Shaun the Sheep.
