I had a rice ball lunch here! It was light and healthy, but very delicious. I took the cake and bread home and they are very delicious and highly recommended. Owner Chako san was kind and I enjoyed talking with her❗

I really wanted to give 5 stars, but unfortunately I had mixed experiences. First time was excellent. I called shortly after closing and they were nice enough to let me purchase bakery items. We came back a few days later but disappointed that they got our order wrong. Also had to remind staff to bring our soup, silverware, and tea. The meals were good, traditional Japanese dishes. However, they really shine in their pastries! Their rolls are not too sweet. I recommend the cream puffs, espresso cake, and apricot glazed pastry. Located in a quaint part of Covington, although parking can be difficult so be prepared to walk. The restaurant is clean, but somewhat plain. Hours are unfortunately short as they close at 3 pm. I recommend stopping by in you're in the area for some sweets on the go.

I stopped by to pick up some special treats for my husband and my lunch recently. This cute, little spot was so warm and inviting. The young man assisting me was knowledgeable and kind. He had great recommendations. We loved everything we tried! Especially the simple, yet delicious loaded bread. Can't wait to return.

Overall, I loved the place. Chicken karaage was so simple yet so delicious! They have a big menu for swiss rolls, we tried the Matcha, and the mixed fruit, both were tasty. The spinach and cheese bread was average.

This bakery is an absolute delight! Their sweet and savory pastries are incredibly delicious, with each bite being a burst of flavor. The shaved ice they offer is a perfect treat on a hot day. Not only is the food amazing, but the service is also top-notch – friendly, efficient, and attentive. A must-visit for anyone who craves mouthwatering baked goods and a refreshing shaved ice experience!

Had a DELICIOUS bowl of curry soup (Fridays only) in their dining room, which was much much more spacious than I was expecting given the size of the front entry area. Very relaxing and different than most other restaurant experiences. Tip: check out the menu beforehand since there is not huge variety of lunch items. Tip 2: order your cake rolls before lunch and take them to-go. This will let them get to the proper temp for full enjoyment — I had three and all were good; there were a mix of more traditionally Japanese flavors, plus flavors we are used to having in the U.S. I found them all to be “just sweet enough”. Everything from the location to staff to food was a win for me.

Have always had amazing experiences here. The desserts are subtle and nuanced and the lunch menu is well prepared and curated. We order our birthday cakes from here every year and they are works of art. One of our favorite places in the area.

Beautiful café. They have lots of very pretty plants and a very neat environment. The food was delicious. They had the best miso soup I've ever had. The karaage chicken was very tasty. The onigiri was good, too. Their bakery has a great selection of cake rolls, bread, and buns. They all looked delicious. They had a beautiful fruit tart. I purchased an ube cake roll. I wish I had thought to take a picture of the pastries. The staff were very friendly and happy to answer any questions. I hope to visit again while on my business trip!

I had been there 4 years prior and remembered loving it. I just came back from a grip to Japan for 2 weeks and had to revisit the place. Just as delicious as I remember. I love their new fish lunch and onigiri. So scrumptious. We enjoyed some of the baked goods, too. Absolutely delicious!

The shop is a little tight in the front, but it's definitely worth it. I mostly go for the pastries and deserts, but I have had lunch there before. It's always good! I had a bacon asparagus pastry today, and it was delightful.

My favorite restaurant in the area. Pastries here are amazing but the chicken karage and salmon onigiri is PHENOMENAL. An absolute must have if you're in the area.

I guess I’m confused. I got a strawberry swiss roll cake to go and at home discovered the cake itself is soft but the cream is icy cold and the strawberries inside is frozen solid. Am I supposed to thaw out my slice of cake? Why is it advertised as fresh? The staff was very friendly but I’m not ecstatic about a $5+ slice of semi-frozen roll cake.

Chako is amazing and truly authentic! We lived in Japan for a few years and I haven’t had anything close to this since moving back to the US in 2017. Kaarage sando was delicious and a generous portion size, shaved ice was just the right amount of sweetness (and not the bottled fake dyed sugar on most US shaved ice!), and customer service was top notch! The raspberry melon pan was my favorite from just one visit. Can’t wait to go back again soon to try more!

A great spot in Mainstrausee to have lunch. Onigiri and karaage transported me back to my days living in Japan. I haven't tried their cakes but will do on my next visit. The staff is wonderful and very helpful.

Chako is a cozy Japanese bakery nestled in the heart of Covington. The food is fresh, delicious, and plated beautifully. On top of all that, the service is welcoming and fast. This is the perfect place to visit if you are looking for something new and authentic. Take a date or go alone. The atmosphere is perfect for everyone! Itadakimasu!

Love Chako!!! As an avid baker myself, their baked good are so good. The lunch combos are smart and give a great glimpse of a quick, healthy, but filling lunch. I just wish Chako had more flexible service hours but maybe its good if they don’t since I would go here daily!
